Is there any game that makes/made you particularly TENSE or filled you with a massive anxious concentration.

I always feel this when playing Dark Souls or DMC. Maybe not as much as the first time i played them, but the feeling of adrenaline still somewhat there.

Play more arcade games OP. Nothing compares to 30 minutes of pure focus to get that high score/single-credit clear. Console-oriented action games like you mentioned don't even come close.

A fighting game against someone that is better than you.

Smash does it for me just fine. There's something in that game that makes people sweat like pigs in heat for some reason, the adrenaline levels must go off the charts. Maybe it's having to constantly predict options to both avoiding and maintain combos, and being able to survive with a shitload of damage as long as you don't get hit by a strong move but also being able to catch your opponent off-guard and kill them with almost no damage.

Just set goals that aren't easy to achieve in a game you enjoy. Arcade games aren't any more special than console or PC games in this regard.

I've had adrenaline rushes in RPGs, FPS, Fighting games, card games, and even some chess matches with friends. It's all psychological.

That's what getting a high score or a no-continue clear is. The sad fact is a lot of action games simply aren't meant to be played in this arcade-like manner, either being too long to be played in one sitting or having failure built right into the design of the game.

They don't have to be played like arcade games because different games engender different sorts of challenges. 1CC doesn't make any sense in MonsterHunter but doing time attack kills sure does. Neither is more correct or better than the other when we're talking about potential for fun/excitement/adrenaline rushes.

Check'd OP and to answer your question, any of 8chan's KUUURRAAAZHEEE games list is elligible for this, the old Dooms, Duke Nukem, Quakes, the first Unreal Tournament, Bulletstorm approaches this if you actually try and go for the trick shots, any rhythm game honestly, the old arcade games have this at every level, be they platformers, shooters, beat'em ups or even fightans. Then you have monster hunting games like MonHun Tri, God Eater Burst, Phantasy Star Online 2 etc. Then there are the Neo Geo games from SNK that can make you chew steel or you can always try the SNES or Sega Ghosts'n'Goblins if you feel confident.

If you really want to feel absolute tension, play Strider 2 and try to never get hit. 30 minutes of pure action that will make you look like the dude from Redline.

Looks like the combat is a little more complex than the original and that giant robot looks awesome. Kinda hyped for this. Just wish they'd add a new final boss because the original is pretty lame but it likely won't happen.

Btw, the western release is August 30.

As for the OP, naturally DMC and Bayonetta given all the requirements for a good style score and in a somewhat similar vein, Odin Sphere Leifthrasir which is basically 2D KUHRAYZEEE - lots of onscreen enemies, a style meter and a variety of special moves at your disposal. I'd also say Dragon's Crown in Ultimate difficulty but that's mostly for feeling incredibly unrelenting as everything is hyper-aggressive, hits like a truck and tracks like a magnet.

Lastly, a mention to Shadow of Rome, it runs on the Onimusha 3 engine and it's a bit similar in pacing but with the gladiator games theme there's a zest of a style meter which is the crowd pleasing actions so you're taking down enemies while planning the crowd pleasers and also make sure all the big weapons tossed into the arena don't get taken. Fantastic game, very underrated IMHO.

You can crack a DRM'd executable to work without paying for it, but good luck getting your PS4 copy running on an Xbone. Do you honestly think DRM of any kind disqualifies vidya from being PC games? Because DRM is old as shit (sadly) and if you handwave it with "their DRM was weak," that also fails because Steam's DRM is infamously weak and basically effortless to bypass these days.

The closest Steam comes to an operating system is on the Linux client, where they bundle a bunch of libraries with the Steam client as backups in case the user doesn't have them.

It compares because a console's OS is essentially a DRM because you have to bypass it to get games not from that console to run, just as you have to crack steam to get the game to run a on PC without steam.

Steamworks also offers the same """""""""""""""""benefits""""""""""""""""" as the console's underlying sofware DRM (all the account related shit, profile pictures, achievements, screenshots…)

They are basically the same thing. The only difference is that the console's OS is tied to shutting on/off the hardware; it's not even used to call up the installed libraries besides the aforementioned account related shit (again, like steam).

Neither have business even existing, they do solely for the purpose of controlling what you are not "allowed" to do with the hardware. So I stand by my point.

Fuck steam and fuck you for thinking the fact we can pirate it makes it okay to be forced upon us. It's the reason I don't even buy games anymore.

used to feel that playing as the scout in TF2, now I get that playing with the Ink brush in Splatoon. Thing about the inkbrush weapon is that you must rapidly tap the button each swing, and if you want to be deadly that's like 3-5 swings a second (any less and you will die in each encounter). Coupled with how you will get destroyed every encounter in a fair fight, you have to be an expert at finding ambush opportunities, going behind enemy lines, you're always vunlerable because it is a VERY short range weapon.

The combinatation of both the manic tapping and frantic gameplay causes very manic feelings that get my blood pumping more so than any other game in recent memory.

Ninja Gaiden 3 Razor's edge did a lot of this too, but the slowdown ruined this pace. Also, once when I was a kid playing Wolfenstien 3D on the SNES I was playing in such a focused fashion that my vision got zoomed in. It was the weirdest thing. I stopped playing this really tense section, and then I notice that all I could see was the TV screen, while my eyes slowly "zoomed out" then I could see the rest of the tv set (like its borders and stand), more zooming out then I could see the wall behind the tv. I only noticed after the tense moment was gone, and it was only like 5 seconds of my eyes "zooming out", but it was quiet surreal. Also, classic quake 1 games from like 20 years ago were also pure adrenaline rush.

Most shooters today never give me the same rush as arena shooters of old, they feel like a novelty by comparison to the twitch gameplay found in those games.

ikr, it barely has any moves that can be cancelled and no incentive to use more than two combos. Even the main musou series gives you more options with each character having at least a move that shoots in a straight line, one that focuses on one opponent and a wide attack that clears around you. Later entries even have jump/dash cancel out of pretty much any attack. Basara looks stylish but it's rigid as fuck. That's already fucking retarded, but insisting these "features" somehow disqualifies games using this placebo DRM from being PC games is a whole new level of stupid.

Nothing prevents me from installing and using any of those and play their games, however and whenever I want. With steam, you just can't unless you crack the game. It's the same for console games, unless you emulate it, it's not the console's hardware it's locked onto, but the console's OS, which is a glorified DRM using shitty features as an excuse to pretend to be needed.

What the fuck, nigger? Consoles have provided rendering APIs since the fucking 3DO Interactive Multiplayer (granted, they became more common during the seventh generation and every eighth generation console has multiple rendering APIs) and OpenGL implementations on these are really, really rare. The latest ones I remember were the PS3's PSGL dogshit, which was actually a modified version of OpenGL 1.x, and the Nintendo Switch's OpenGL driver which sat alongside Vulkan and a custom rendering API. Besides, OpenGL drivers notoriously take a shitton of effort to write and are fairly CPU heavy so there's no way a console would write an entire OpenGL implementation for internal use only.

Your entire argument is "console OSes are just glorified DRM" (false, all non-Xbox consoles these days use modified forks of FreeBSD, an actual operating system you can use on your computer as opposed to a standalone kernel like Linux, while the Xbone uses a janky hypervisor and Windows 10) and "Steam is DRM therefore Steam is an operating system," both of which are fucking retarded and show you really don't know shit about operating systems or DRM. I fucking loathe Steam too but please, do your fucking research before making an ass of yourself and giving pro-piracy shills an easy target to dogpile.

But it does have plenty of moves that can be linked in various ways, including jump and dash canceling which differs with each character. As it is a Musoul it can of course still get repetitive after a while but is still a great combination of DMCs elements mixed with the musou genre.

Hideyoshi for example is often just played by spamming his grab chains, which I fully admit makes him a broken character, but you can also have fun with other combos that don't require using his grabs. That's what makes Basara fun is seeing what properties your moves have like crumple, stagger or knockdown and seing how you can link the moves with that knowledge to make a lot of cool combos that are also optimal.

Basara operates solely on the rule of cool which a lot of games today don't do because of realism.

Also if anyone is interested in it then start with Basara 3 Samurai Heroes as a starting point. The first two were essentially copies of Dynasty Warriors. It wasn't till 3 that they became their own thing.

I really loved how they presented Ludwig. You go through the area and notice if course the giant flowing river of blood and follow it to it's source.

I loved the realization that dawned on me when I got to Ludwigs cave that all the blood was flowing from in there and had to walk right into the lions den.

Hey OP, this is the most intense, adrenaline pumping multiplayer game of all time.

I played that at an arcade a few weeks ago. The final level of adventure mode is fucking impossible.

Ys Ark of Nephatism, Oath in Felghana and Origins are my go to adrenaline pump games.

>fast gameplay

>intense bosses that can't be cheesed, no healing items or over-grinding(if you aren't a nigger, leveling up is natural unless you go out of your way to grind) to save you, just your skills.

>sick music

It's perfect. Fuck the party Ys games.

What were they thinking?

>if we add playable women they'll just eat it up no problem!

It's clearly working if they've gotten to the fourth game in this style.

I think it sells because falcom has a big enough fan base that will simply buy anything they make. Also now that they release their games on GOG they have expended their market enough that even if a game sold proportionally worse than an older game, they wouldn't see the difference in profit.

Also I don't think women are the reason, we had Yurika in Origins and it was still a solo game.

>last man standing in while holding the bomb the t dropped

>defending the planted bomb alone against 5

>trying to save while they're hunting you and you hear them coming from every direction

alternatively ninja defusing in any game with a bomb defusal scenario. I used to do that lots in cod4 and mw2.
