I get an rtx 2080 tomorrow but I got all the other upgrade components (ryzen cpu, motherboard, more ram, etc) and installed it all today w/ the gtx 770 im replacing. What exactly will happen when my GPU bottlenecks my CPU if I play a game like ARMA or Aurora?

I tried to look up exactly what happens when the CPU is bottlenecked but no one gives a clear answer or example either.

If you have money for a 2080 but not enough sense to do enough reading and research before spending that much money on custom PC hardware, you should have bought a prebuilt. Anyway, what will happen? Games will run as fast as the slowest part of the computer can run them, that's all bottlenecking means. I have no idea where you got the idea that bottlenecking could somehow damage your hardware but it doesnt paint a good picture for your inteligence.

Just so you know, if you're you know, just playing games, it's practically impossible to actually cap out your cpu.

Hell if your stupid ass is playing in 1080p (which I think it's safe to assume you probably are) you're not going to even come close to hitting the upper limit of a 8-11gb vram card of that speed

thats how nvidia keeps the performance crown.

they downgrade the visual quality in drivers and call it optimization. when ever its texture quality or anti-aliasing. and amd has the reputation for poor drivers.

According to the benchmarks I've been watching both the 2070 S and 5700 XT are about on par if not just under 1080ti performance despite the vram limitation.
