What kind of monetary setup would make arcades viable again?

That was always the draw with arcades, they had shit you couldn't really play on a PC or console at the time or at least nothing most people could afford, as tech got better though people could just enjoy it at home and not have to spend time being around people they didn't like, sort of like with internet shopping and malls, if the people don't have to be cornered into places they don't want to go then they'll take that opportunity and save themselves the trouble

If you want a Jewish answer: Pay once to get in, then either pay for tokens for continues or you can pay for a voucher that would let you have unlimited continues on any machine and/or cabinet in the place for the duration of your stay.

If you want a real answer: Arcades will never become popular again, outside of the possibility of a bunch of hipster faggots getting together and producing their own arcade + bar and grill so they can play shitty jazz music and serve lattes to fellow hipsters who totally remember Castlevania 2.

Unfortunately, a large number of surviving arcades are dropping actual games and taking ticket gamblers instead. Just went to a local arcade I've been going to for years, almost everything that was an actual game was gone. Instead, it's those pushing stick games, ball drop games, other games of chance, mobileshit in an arcade cabinet, that kind of crap. The only thing I would tolerate out of that is skeeball, which mostly stayed. There's only about 3 actual games and 4 pinball tables in the whole arcade now. It's just a sign of the times, I guess. We aren't the kids they're trying to market to anymore, and the kids of today like instant gratification of ticket machines.

I think you might actually make a better point then where I was going. I honestly don't know if kids even like these games as much, or these places are just desperate for more money and this is the scheme for it. It's just weird to see how it has evolved over the past decade of me going there, the change of almost all ticket gambling was literally over the past year, so I don't know if this change is permanent.

Well another issue is that arcades don't have games people want to play. Like Japan has arcade versions of BlazBlue, Guilty Gear, Pokken, Tekken, etc. Combined with the fact that new gameplay experiences aren't being developed and you have a dying out of touch industry. Hell D&B still acts like they're at the top of the world, which sucks because they're one of the reasons arcades died in the USA.

What I hate the most about them is their implementation of the card system. Instead of putting actual money into the machines, you need to load it onto one of their cards. The best part is they seem to have it so you have a tiny amount left to make you come back and not waste it. Makes me so pissed off that a lot of arcades are following in those foot steps.

Modern arcades should have the latest games and systems, then charge you a flat rate to play anything you want for a set period of time. I think it would be a great model because it would allow people to try games out on the latest hardware without committing to a purchase, but the prevalence of F2P and microtransactions undermines this somewhat. Yeah, I've been. The place is fucking massive with floors and floors of machines which tend to be cheaper than other arcades around Tokyo (50 yen or so for continues as opposed to 100+ yen elsewhere). It's only a 5-10 minute walk from a nearby train station; definitely worth a visit if you're in town. I spent hours there playing the original Guilty Gear and Melty Blood with some japs.

Arcades are dead and not coming back, thank goodness. They're an obsolete model.

In my town we have a arcade that has been around forever and doesn't look like its going anywhere.

But then again its a college town and the arcade is open till 4 am, so it gets a lot of drunk kids coming from the bar or club to sober up by playing arcade games.

The Mechwarrior BattlePods are great for this. Too bad it's MW4, still enjoyable though especially when you have hundreds of hours logged and smoke everyone who can hardly figure out how to use the pedals

There is a VR arcade near me. I haven't tried it yet but I'm tempted. I don't know how viable it is to do on mass because of the room needed. How many spare offices do you have ?

Prove me wrong. It's always the same story. I'd like to say I wish people would grow out of their whiny internet activism years and just enjoy discussing video games or go outside and do some real changing, but I'm also aware 8ch was created just for the gamergate crowd.
