Hi Lads,
We are in Current Year + 4 and the biggest MMOs are still World of Warcraft and Old School Runescape. I tried Tera, Black Desert, Archeage, etc but most of em are just trash Korean grind fests or just plain shit no fun games. Where are the new good games? Are they just buried under all the trash being spit out?
Calling on you to for a new game that you've had fun with recently so maybe we can all enjoy something new.
e9e801 No.16627691
I'll start:
I had a lot of fun with TitanFall 2, the single player campaign was actually fun. Still kinda pissed EA basically gimped it at release with BF1 so multiplayer never really took off and just has kinda died.
I've enjoyed Mordhau, I was really big into AoC/Chivalry for a while until the devs crashed hard when killing their current game for Chivalry: Arcane Warfare. Shit, I even liked that game when they released it for free I jumped on it for a bit and the bouncy combat was actually fun but of course it dried up because when you play shit games you get shit prizes. Mordhau atleast has some heart in it, and being a tank wearing steel armor ballerina'ing around with a big ass sword will always be fun.

If you're a fan of pseudo-MMOs with great gameplay and music while everything else is terrible, Destiny 2 is going free to play in September, so you could give that a shot. That's about the only new-ish game I've put time into aside from Titanfall 2 and some Warhammer games.

I think your problem is that you're playing MMO's at all. I used to play them a shitload, too. They're just not fun anymore, man. I've given up on them entirely.
That said, I had some fun with Void Bastards recently. It's alright. Nothing crazy, but it's a game that's basically inoffensive to everyone. You kill shit, you loot shit, and try not to die. Though, it's pretty short and there's really no reason to continue playing once you beat the "story".
I'm also trying out Insurgency Sandstorm again since there's a free weekend going on. I still have very mixed feelings about it. It's new and shiny, but it's incredibly unoptimized. Maps feel like there's no design in them and are just made to seem "realistic" instead of working around the fact that it's a game. Addition of vehicles feels like it's just there for the sake of having them, instead of filling any kind of role.
Outfit customization is nice for the security side, but the insurgent side is completely shafted by the retarded clothing they're given. Thousand different variations of patterns for headrags in bright colors, t-shirts and flannels, fucking track suits, but hardly any camo options.
It tries to be this weird mix of old Insurgency combined with Battlefield, but it fails at both of them.
I haven't played much else recently. I'm in a drought myself, I guess.

That's the thing man, I want to play an MMO but there just aren't any worth playing right now.
I think one of the main bummers is that there's not really any games anymore that bring together a big group of people. I miss that.
With all the games being released nowadays you mainly got 5-6 player teams on each side so groups playing games together have to be pretty small or people gonna be left out. I was into WoW when we were doing 40 man runs of Kara and everyone lighting up in the Ventrillo when we got a boss down or someone fugged something up and we wiped. There is not really any game that you can be a part of a bigger whole (INB4 Gay) anymore outside the shoehorned chosen one \ last hope narrative a lot of games go with. Whats better than going out with a rag tag team of peeps and clearing a dungeon for the first time? Nowadays its LFG to get a bunch of anti social fucks who have cleared a dungeon 20 times already but didn't get a specific drop so they're going through it again and will get pissy if you don't follow the current dungeon meta.
Another thing these games do is a lot of them never do the "down time" right. Its always action, action, action, 5 minute rest to see safe haven area meet all the locals, action, action, action, oh no something happened to your safe haven n everyone dead or they are captured, action, action, action, story over.
Dont get me wrong, this can be done well but you have to balance the sections of your game. I unironically liked Rise of The Tomb Raider and it does that, but it embedded action in the puzzle shrines so you had little breather moments to go clear out a tomb if you wanted.

I'd recommend just finding another genre to play instead of playing MMO's you know are shitty with the stubborn hope that you'll find a hidden gem or something. I don't see MMO's recovering from their current situation, especially since a lot of the chink ones have gone to mobile/tablet formats.

I have been playing My Friend Pedro recently. It's a 2D run and gun where I can basically describe it as making the best action scenes every level.
The good
>soundtrack is sick
>gameplay is pretty fun, movement is great if a bit floaty
>Levels are nice and varied, with the first two mapsets being more straightforward shooting galleries, the third level being more surreal platforming challenges and the fourth being more platforming and shooting simultaneously
>the MC's mask is pretty fuck'n cool.
>great shotgun, gibs enemies, little aiming required meaning less use of the slow motion and it's the best weapon to use with dodging. Too bad you can't akimbo it either.
The bad(kind of)
<Can't do midair spins unless you use the slow motion
<dodgeshooting, while really cool, is very finicky to aim
<too little smg ammo. I wish the pistols had autofire because I do not wish to wear out my LMB
<animation is very weak, especially compared to the launch trailer
I'm trying to upload some gameplay of mine on an external site since I'm too illiterate to cut up the video in two without making it 20 TB or something.
As for MMOs, I don't particularly know much, but a lot of people I knew went off into the unknown when they started playing PSO2. I haven't played it because my third world latency is already shit when playing on "nearby" servers, let alone a japanese server.

You're playing a genre that is designed from the ground up to be unsatisfying over the long term. You want to play an MMO because you're addicted to the short-term dopamine hit you get when you finally get that incremental upgrade so you can chase the next incremental upgrade before planned obsolescence in the form of the next content patch rolls in and necessitates the next start from 0.
>Nowadays its LFG to get a bunch of anti social fucks who have cleared a dungeon 20 times already but didn't get a specific drop so they're going through it again and will get pissy if you don't follow the current dungeon meta
Because they're not having fun, and this is by design.
<but i have fun with friends in dungeons!
You'd have just as much fun with those friends in pretty much any situation.
Go play Diablo 2 or Grim Dawn, they handle that loot grind far better than any MMO since they aren't trying to keep you on the hook paypigging a sub or microtransactions.

What a curious statement. Outside of weird niche cases like puzzle games, singleplayer games are designed to offer long-term satisfaction. There's a start, a middle, and an end. Once you reach the end of your journey, you move on to the next game. MMOs are the exact opposite.

I've never understood this argument, exactly why was it unsustainable? They made a good game that a lot of people enjoyed so a lot of people liked it and then they told their friends and those friends played and enjoyed it too. If a game is fun people will play it. If a game is not fun people will not. If another game comes around that is better sure people will go to it. Retail WoW in its current form is still the top dog in terms of $$$ in the MMO genre. Its nowhere near where it was and I'm going to attribute that to the piss poor design decisions.
>always mediocre and propped up by player interactions.
I don't think I'm alone in saying this but generally an experience shared amongst friends can make a bland one grand. Have you ever watched a shitty movie with friends for shits n grins? Saw a shitty meme that became an inside joke amongst eachother?Mediocre gameplay or not, a game's purpose is to promote fun. How it promotes fun doesn't really matter if people are having it. You can harp all day about how mediocre the gameplay was but people enjoyed it and I think you're spot on, they enjoyed it because people were interacting. Blizz made the dumb decision to strip out te player interaction and all that was left was a pretty lack luster tab target-ing mess of a game.
>That change would have to come in the form of an entirely new game.
I 100% agree with this. Unfortunately I don't really think there is a lot of talent left for them to do so and other companies are too damn scared to try to deviate too far from the "formula" that is WoW since they see a "successful" stream of revenue and want to copy rather than innovate.

It's not that simple. How many times can you do back-to-back replays of your favorite game before it stops being fun? WoW has received many facelifts over the years, many mechanical tweaks, but the core gameplay is the same, and this is why it's unsustainable.
>If another game comes around that is better sure people will go to it
Not necessarily. They may just burn out on the genre entirely.

Nothing lasts forever.
>I don't think I'm alone in saying this but generally an experience shared amongst friends can make a bland one grand
Sure, but why not seek out a grand experience to begin with and make that, I don't know, double grand by sharing it with friends?
>Mediocre gameplay or not, a game's purpose is to promote fun.
WoW's purpose isn't to promote fun, it's to keep you hanging around and paying as long as possible. Read into the psychology behind the evolution of the slot machine, and note how closely it mirrors what we see with MMO and mobile game design.
>How it promotes fun doesn't really matter if people are having it
Of course it does. If the core gameplay is weak, people will eventually stop coming back.

nah, that shit is bleeding subs like crazy. If Classic doesn't bring the revenue numbers up enough for the product they'll have no choice but to cut their losses. They've already cut the development team down a size due to costs plus the average playtime on all acti-blizzard products was only 50 minutes in q1 of 2019. But with the release of Classic WoW underway the sub count has only increase by a little and this shit will prob be shown in the next earnings report as "increased player interaction" along with some other stuff. King will still be leading in the revenue numbers though, no real surprise there. No matter how you slice it the product of World of Warcraft isn't earning enough profits to bother sustaining it over something like the Overwatch League, which is still selling out seats. There's also the fact that the company is focusing development on Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2. The only thing that's 'Warcraft' related is getting is a mobile game that'll have microtransactions alongside a re-release of the base game from 2005 and some patches for the BFA players that'll be moving the story along so they'll be ready for the next expansion that'll be prob be released in 2020 and would have only a 1/5th of the content for that expansion playable at launch, like usual. Meanwhile other MMOs like FFXIV & ESO are all still earning a crap load of money and a bunch of other crap.
The only thing 'WoW' is top dog of right now is living off of peoples need of nostalgia.

Back on topic, Ring Runner is a game I've played on a yearly basis since I picked it up in 2014. It's a fun top down space dogfighting game with very creative weapons and ships and it's pretty fun. Using a vault as a giant space flail that you control with the right analog stick and fuck around with lots of physics based attacks with grapplers, caster type ships that fire all sorts of neat patterns and have synergies with the simple physics system, you can play an arsenal type ship that focuses on deploying loads of turrets and shitting missiles on a daily basis, a rogue type class which focuses on building stacks using a long range laser beam weapon before consuming them for your higher damage attacks, or just a regular fighter with powerful main cannons, lots of mobility and some form of heat management(exhaust heat as a plasma trail that damages and overheats enemies that get into contact, or just vent it as a bomb that instantly overheats enemies, etc.)

I'm afraid that might be intended. Considering Dusk(yeah it's not the same dev but the same publisher), could be the case.

I don't know. I had really hoped it would be much better than simply okay, especially since I really like Heretic.

No, you're making the mistake of thinking these games are "supposed to be fun". They're supposed to give you just enough short-term satisfaction that you keep chasing the next fractional high so you stay subbed. Any game with that business model was made primarily to exploit you with said business model. It's no different than what we see with slot machines using flashing lights and repetitive loud jingles to short circuit your brain into continually feeding quarters and pulling that lever.
I get that you feel personally attacked by having a game you like being described in that manner. I don't hold it against you.
>>16631621
I would guess it's some kind of noise filter trying to evoke pixelshit nostalgia.

>It might have ads
You can disable the ads in properties-advanced,looks like notepad, the ads are called RSS feed and some other shit, you just switch all that to 0 or false ,you can find the names online
TPB is fine but you can't see what got uploaded ,Skidrow has a site where you can see new games and upcoming cracks https://www.skidrowreloaded.com/,I found smaller games like DEX thanks to that
I finished Vaporum recently it was pretty good it plays like Legend of Grimrock but doesn't rely on puzzles that much ,the setting is steampunk/bioshock

DMC5, Sekiro, RE2, my friend Pablo, muse dash, and KH3 are all good at least in imo. Doom eternal also looks really fun as NMH3. Honestly 2019 is a pretty good year for vidya. But again just in my opinion.

Comet Striker is a bit like it you took bubble bobble and made it into a 2d sidescrolling shooter.

Pawurumi is if you took ikurauga with the switching up of your ship's weapon type but instead tied it to health, weapon power, and the equivalent of the superbomb in other shmups.

Zero Ranger is one of the finest indie shmups I've played in terms of getting the the basics down, solid levels, great music, just a bit short considering the time it took to make it.
Zero Ranger

This is essientially if you took the gameboy legend of zelda and stripped away the generic fantasy setting and put in a surrealist yume nikki styled world.
Anodyne
http://www.mediafire.com/file/q892aczlai4qa7i/Anodyne.zip
This game is a parody on undertale's humor while somehow not going the wrote of being too destructive.
Tomb Of Friends +

If you love artsy fartsy surreal stuff with a strange beat em up mechanic that you never knew existed as a combo try this game.
Where They Cremate The Roadkill
http://www.mediafire.com/file/hiy72rjlojcvtqq/Where_They_Cremate_The_Roadkill.7z
The finest retro styled shooter that has come out. couple that with the massive roster of enemies you face make it something I reccomend to most people.
Amid Evil

This game oozes nihlism in a way that flips back around to being humorous.
Space Funeral
https://gamejolt.com/games/space-funeral/3492
A fun arcade action platformer where you play with the mouse and keyboard to click on enemies to slice them instead of a controller, trust me it works.
Noitu Love 2
http://www.mediafire.com/file/ncniim55vf1gve9/Noitu_Love_2_Devolution-en.zip/file
Another game kind of like where they cremate the roadkill except you replace the beat em up combat with turn based combat that surprisingly doesn't suck.
Hylics
http://www.mediafire.com/file/h31u7fexfd0wm8d/Hylics.zip
Remember Descent, these guys made the descent games, it's pretty much a sequel to that, just polished a bit.
Overload
http://www.mediafire.com/file/pbr5cxpp2jhs9zp/Overload.zip/file
First person Platformer that works better then mirror's edge due to the floater controls of it helping you land on platforms easier.
Deadcore

Katana Zero man. It's a sidescrolling action game that draws you in with the artsyle and the gameplay but shines with it's presentation of a story. Plus it has special blades you unlock after story mode and a secret boss. Only downside is that it's a little short, but an update has been foretold in the game, but no solid date as of yet.

Tetris 99 is great. Damn shame that you have to support Nintendo's shit online for it, but if that's what it takes to play a good new game, fuck it.
Pretty much everything else I've played recently has been serviceable, but inferior to past games in many ways. Mario Odyssey, Kirby, A Tomato, most indie shit.
Animal Crossing New Horizons might be great but that's not for a while.

Age of Fear 3/ 1 Gold
Is a top down, turn based stratedgy game where you fight using your team o either minions or mercenaries depending on which story you play. Each unit has it's skills and abilities which you buy using their xp points they have accumulated. Voices are decen to bad, artwork is good to decent but overall it's a fun game made by a dev who likes to make games. Every game has 2 campaigns which manage to be actually interesting and fun in it's battles. 3 and 1 GOLD have the new countless battles and recruiting system which is a very nice addition. I'd recommend 1 Gold to start off or the 3rd one.
Creeper World 3
It's an interesting stratedgy game where you build turrets and energy generators to fend off your enemy, an ever-expanding tide of blue goo. The story is okay and there only a cuople music tracks in the game but the main meat and potatoes of the game make up for it. Plus the 3rd one has custm levels made by other people where you can even play as the blob.
Disgaea 5 got ported not too long ago
It's a jrpg that mainly focuses on grinding (and which jrpgs don't ?) The story is a bit more serious than in the other ones while the humor is still there, so it doesn't always play well together. However the gameplay is nice and refined, and you don't really need to play the other games to understand what's going on. Plus for all you pedos out there you can make a full squad of super powerfull lolis that blow up the whol stage in 2 turns, if that's your thing.
Dominions 5
A kind of grand strategdy fantasy wargame where you lead your picked nation and our custom made god to fight other nations and gain controll over the "thrones of ascension". Each game is basicly the last one but bigger and better so it's best to start off at the 5th one. Modding is easy and making completely custom (and completely OP if you want) gods is as easy as pie, you can even copy sprites of other gods if you're lazy.
Death Skid Marks and Fission Superstar X
Two simmilar-but-different games from the same guy. One is top down and other is sidescrolling. In theese you pick your vehicle and fend off enemy waves as you try to get to your destination, getting new guns, crew and upgrades all the while. Plus the music in both is pretty amazing.

For anyone who likes text games/CYOA I'd recommend Choice of Robots and Choice of Magics. Same author, same company. They're not very complicated but very well written. Plus choice of Robots let's you live a fantasy where you have a whole warehouse of sex bots, which is a plus.

Play Splitgate. It's not the best FPS of all time, but it's damn sure the fastest and most fun multiplayer FPS you're going to get on the current market. If only it had momentum conservation mechanics so that you could use the portals to zip around at lightspeed… Keep in mind when you play this game that you MUST give up some of your old thinking in terms of FPS games. The term "crossmap" means practically nothing when you can get from one end of the map to the other with two portals. The nice vantage point that looks safe with convenient cover may in fact be a deathtrap if it has portalable wall behind it. And power weapons are really important so control the spawns; they spawn every 2 minutes.
Oh, and if you want to know the best tip ever, learn to double portal AKA super fast portal AKA cannonball (not sure why it's sometimes called that but whatever). Basically, set up two portals, both on vertical surfaces (you can get this to work on SOME diagonal surfaces, but not many). Crouch to slow your movement and inch through the portal until you hear the portal sound effect and see the color of the portal's rim change (you can do this faster once you get used to the timing). You are now juuuuust far enough into this portal that you can stand on it, but are also counted on the other side. Now, you can aim the portal you just went through before you even go through, and fire it as soon as you get to the other side, then back up into it. Congrats, you have just made two portal jumps incredibly quickly before anyone else even knows what the fuck you just did. This can be used to juke enemies out and cover large distances in a split second, and is obscenely powerful if you have a shotgun.

oh and put your portal buttons on a mouse button or the mousewheel because Q and E are NOT the ideal choices.
