I thought they were pretty poorly designed games considering if you don't grab combat skills from the getgo you're more or less fucked. Either you do a street sammy, mage, or phys adept, or spirits guy, but if you wanna go pure hacker you're boned, and that's what I wanted to do. Sure you can grab the members of the team that are missing but your pure hacker is still almost useless because there's no hacking on the fly despite the fact that that is a thing in shadowrun tabletop and the setting being a highly technological/digitized/Internet of things one.

Yes, it's got the best overall plot of the three games. Hong Kong's plot is good too, but not as good as DF. HK has better characters and better sidequests though, and a really good epilogue quest.

It's non-linear so you can just do hacking runs if you want to. Or just hack into random systems and sell the data you find to upgrade your equipment.

The main story requires combat, but you can put that off until you have a good team.

Yeah that's what I meant by spirits build. I too had a charisma elf and it went just fine, especially when I found spirit points. Sure you can get hacking if you want but charisma is still the stat for spirits and that kind of magic. My point is that very specifically going pure decker in those games makes you ABSOLUTELY USELESS outside the matrix considering all you can do is "mark target", and NOTHING ELSE.

This is the first time I've heard of such a thing. Does more of this type of game exist? There is Harvester but that game only gave you a choice at the end and that's it.

But to get on topic, I really want to know if the Shadowrun games are worth playing. I have them lying around on my external hard-drive but I've never been arsed to actually play them. And as for other games I can think of:

Syndicate is always good, the Starbreeze Syndicate 2012 remake is decent for what it is, Satellite Reign is good, VA-11 HALL-A is trash, BloodNet is great if you're into those types of games.

The Syndicate FPS would have been better if it allowed you to go full corporate hitman instead of making you rebel and take down your employer at the end. I also would have enjoyed it more if it was more true to the source material, e.g. a 4-player FPS co-op game with all the bells and whistles from the original game.

At the time I remember being quite disappointed by it. Looking back now it doesn't seem as shitty as the garbage we've suffered through more recently.
