Correction, no one wants/is willing/is capable of hosting it. There's certainly plenty of demand but radcorp devs haven't really released much info on HOW to do it properly for their latest update, which supposedly supports plain net connections without a need for a LAN emulator like Gameranger through a patchwork in UDP.

the reason why hostfags are dying is mainly due to a few factors, mostly you have faggots screeching "where is X gamenight!" or "why are we playing THIS I want to play MY GAME". Another factor is people screeching about "circlejerks" which is going to happen when the same group of people play every weekend, they become friends and whatnot. At the end of the day this burns out hostfags, why should we host games when people are either going to be unappreciative shitters or scream in the thread we're not hosting a server for a game THEY want to play.

Setting up a game server is easy, setting up a server that will give good ping for NA and EU is harder (near impossible) and setting up a server with a good selection of maps/gametypes is a nightmare when people don't want to submit choices a few days in advance to the hostfags. Even then when it comes to shit like custom maps, it seems people confuse custom maps with "meme maps" or those maps that are either a gimmick (think that shitty TF2 map that's just a more drawn out high tower) or a fun map (like surf, deathrun, etc).

That said I'm going to set up a Tachyon server for friday, testing is tonight

people don't want to host for faggots who are going to be ungrateful. It's like life, do you want to do shit for people who will just insult you or tell you they wanted something else, even if what you're offering comes at no cost to them and would be a gain on their end? While there will be anons who enjoy it, every time it's the same. Not to mention people turn the hosts into cults of personality, take the aforementioned Halo Online. People won't host period and demand either dio or jewjew host. No one else will bother to set up a server and will cry about having no server till the cows come home. This is the core of the issue, a majority of anons here either have too shitty an internet to host or are so retarded they have no idea how to port forward. The hosts that do continue to host will only ever host the games they not only enjoy, but they know they can get up and running for the week with 0 issues.

Again people are either incredibly lazy or have a shitty connection so the pool of possible hosts is ALWAYS going to be the same and those people have their OWN preferences. The people who are really upset are the fags who aren't getting the game they want hosted when they could do it on their own but fall into either of the previous two categories

This could be solved simply by people not using the same name in every game you play. Using the same name each time is similar to namefagging in threads, you're actively trying to be recognised.

But maybe people stopped hosting because people stopped playing. I only drop in on gamenights occasionally, but there was rarely more than 10 people on at a time.
