Well this is probably ruining Biowares day, but its interesting to note how they announced it.
If you havent seen the video, and thats probably most of anons, they call the game an mmo, show talent trees, artifacts to level up, melee combos and finishing moves, more character customization and specifically say that Activision was keeping them trying to be halo in space.
Aside from Norma Reedus' "and nobody is going to stop us this time!" comments at the game awards is this one of the most bridge burning fuck you's a developer has said about their former publisher?

and now its going to be a confusing mess. Now in the f2p "first light" edition you start in the first mission of destiny 1, then finish it at the current max gear level of destiny 2, you can go to any location in destiny 2 but anything but the d2 story everyone hates remains paywalled. So its refined to nothing but the gear skinnerbox.
Poorfags with addictive personalities will love it for everyone else i think its just going to be another issue for bioware and anthem which nobody can complain about.
Except biodrones of course but they aren't really people so who cares.

Well they kind of lost all the prestige they had built up with Halo under their tenure with Activision. If there was anything they were going to blame it would be Activision.

So you can "like play with your friends dude, it's what the game is all about". There's still a skinnerbox aspect, to getting weapons with perfect perk rolls, getting all of the exotic weapons, getting the cosmetic stuff, etc..

>it's not rare gear
No, it in fact is rare gear. You want to collect the unique exotic armor with the specific perks you want, and you want to collect weapons with specific perks and stat rolls on them, all of that stuff rolls randomly from any piece of gear that drops. It's not like Warframe or some shit where you spend 45 minutes farming rat shit to put together a gun which is always the same. It's all about minmaxing. But the actual levels don't really matter that much, as long as you're around the recommended level, you're going to be able to do the content, and if you're overlevel, you only get a little damage boost and a little bit of damage resistance. The game is a lot more shooter than RPG, but I guess they want to add more RPG elements in the next expansion.

That's not something todd likely would have personally had a part in. That 100% would have been part of the original contract that obsidian signed with zenimax. Bonuses based on metacritic score are standard in the AAA industry, the most common threshold being 85%, and this is always something that is agreed-upon before development starts. The publisher does this because an 85%+ score guarantees sales in AAA, and because it's a difficult milestone to reach, meaning there's a good chance that they won't have to pay it out. The developer agrees because the bonus itself may be close to matching the salaried wage of the entire devteam.
It's a gamble for both sides, and in this specific case, obsidian lost by a single point. Had they won by a single point, I don't think any of you niggers would be white knighting zenimax and saying that obsidian ripped them off because they only BARELY met the threshold.

Speaking of Anthem, I hardly hear anyone talking about. Decided to check out what was going on and they seem to have gotten rid of their own roadmap. Also Cataclysm came out and it's about as disappointing as you'd expect. Remember those lightning and storms they showed in a preview? Well, the actual event looks more like a tropical drizzle. You might be able to see a tree swaying and some waves rising, but it could hardly be called a cataclysm unless they're talking about the game itself.

The entire practice is predatory as fuck and stupid. You want to motivate your devs to do well, and getting 84% and not getting jack shit is extremely demotivating. The minimum you could do is "reward tiers" for different score thresholds but that's still kinda shitty. The way I see it, if Zenimax wanted Obsidian to continue making games for them, they might have compromised out of good will, but they don't, so they didn't.

They aren't "their" devs though. I guarantee BGS get preferential treatment, because BGS are their devs, but Obsidian is a private studio that does contract work. Well, they were a private studio at that point, now they're owned by Microsoft. There's no more loyalty there than there is from you for a plumber you hired.

The game has no appeal to it though. It takes place in space fantasy but doesnt take advantage of it. Many mechanical possibilities you could implement and introduce but instead they stuck with the same generic shit you see in every other shooter. At least Warframe "tries" to be unique even though they have a shit ton of problems themselves.

What? Destiny lore and universe is far more interesting than Warframe's. The game oozes art, from the soundtrack to world design. All that Warframe has going for it is METAL FLESH and increasingly overdesigned ninjas.

For what it is the gameplay is pretty good. Problem is literally every system that surrounds it at the moment is extremely terrible. No real skill trees, gear progression is cancer if you want to upgrade existing gear you have rather than toss it all out, and the various world activities are pretty mind numbing.
I'll always hold a soft spot for the game but it's entire history is one of broken promises and terrible and unfinished features. I won't hold my breath for a second.
