4015bf  No.16535898

Obviously while touch screen controls don't work for action games, I was wondering if this service will drastically increase the quality of iOS games and ultimately lead to Apple making an NVidia Shield like device.

For those who aren't aware Apple is making a game pass like service for iOS, which is basically a subscription service to play a handful of 40-60 dollar games. Right now Microsoft has this service for the Xbox and has been rather successful with it, my concern is how Apple plans to implement the service and if it'll take away games like Microsoft does. Additionally I know that Apple has spent half a billion dollars on the entire project and even funding games. Although while Apple itself doesn't give a shit, my concern is that developers will come on the platform and make good exclusive games with extremely crappy controls.

In any case how do you guys feel about services like Apple Arcade and Xbox Gamepass. Do you see them as a cancer of the Industry, or a nice alternative to buying games

It's going to fail.

People don't want to play traditional AA/AAA games on mobile, outside of a handful of emulator autists - and they already have their solution with no need for a subscription based service. People who play on mobile want simple distractions that don't require much attention or cognition to play - because it's just a time waster while they're waiting in line, taking a shit, or for their secret Grindr hookup to text them back. At best, mobile games serve to make the user look busy as a social "Fuck off, don't talk to me" flag to display - without actually having to do anything yet not looking from the outside as if they're actually playing a game in a public space.

Nobody actually gives a shit about mobile games.

Since the paid shill won't do it, I did. Specs wise, it's identical to the HP workstation, which I assume is quite similar to the Apple one. Exclude Windows 10 from this because who actually wants that and it's $1140.

Best part? The graphics card in my build is better. I simply went with it because it was the cheapest one I could pick.

So, what happened to being "blown the fuck out" again, anon? HP realized they can charge ten times the price for hardware just like Apple and so they're doing it. That was never the question.

Okay, so you think this one is indefensible, too?

Said things being?

Is the argument now going to be "software"? Because the anon was only talking about hardware earlier.

>>16549470

Yes, I would agree on it being indefensible as well. Apple is the one who popularized these practices.

>>16549474

>nowhere near identical

Which spec, exactly? Or is it in the fact that this machine won't set itself on fire?

Do you want the EXACT components? I picked BETTER ones. Because if that's the case, we can try to Mcguiver something from parts made in 2002 and complain about it costing $50k.

You could easily build a small server farm, host your own web application and start a business for that type of money. Or build a few gaming servers and start a rental service.

He seems to think that a pc with the label "workstation" is magically far more powerful than a "non-workstation" pc with equivalent (if not better) specs. I think he's an actual brainlet.

Either look at performance in the appropriate workspaces when comparing consumer and Xeon chips or don’t bother. You didn’t pick better anything. That’s not ECC RAM. That’s not an M.2 drive. That’s not a kilowatt PSU. There’s no 10gig Ethernet. Workstations have specialized requirements, anon. It’s not a fucking gaming PC. You’d be laughed out of the room if you said, “oh, I have my own hardware” and brought that thing into a business that does rendering (video or 3D).

Because it’s a Mac/PC war faggot talking about yet another streaming game service. We already know it’s going to be shit, most of all because Apple couldn’t give a fuck about video games. This is their first conscious effort into the field since the fucking Pippin. Worst part is that it might actually do “well” solely because of the size of their user base. Unfortunately the same might be true of Stadia (but only on phones/tablets). “Input lag” doesn’t mean much to the people who play candy crush.

I'm quite hurt. I went out of my way to look for parts with the exact specs as that shitty HP machine, too. Given more freedom, I could have put something way more practical together. There's very little need for a GPU that powerful in a machine with this type of CPU. I've done 3D Modeling, image editing and Video editing, and on my piece of shit, video was the only one bottlenecked in any way, and the bottleneck was the CPU (i5 4460, 3.2GHz). My GPU's a 4 GB GTX 960. I'm sure if you're doing 4k or 8k editing, you'd need a GPU that good, but the CPU would make it a potato anyway.

$22 extra for RAM, $-6 extra for the SSD, $37.68 for the network card. The PSU has no need to be a kilowatt, I picked one according to the power consumption of my build. If you want to waste electricity, sure.

Total price is now $1334.21. Wanna keep going?

You forget software firms anon, plenty of them and the retarded devs that use them still buy into the walled garden meme or the meme that they're somehow better for developing front end.

I actually saw a HackerNews post (was troubleshooting, I'd never visit that shithole otherwise, it's basically Silicon Valley Shitposting Central) where the topic was whether or not ZeroMQ, a library for communicating between two applications, was worth using and its flaws. One of the replies was a guy complaining who didn't realize there was an existing feature he could use that addresses his complaint. When someone else pointed that out to him and asked him how it went, his reply was "I switched to iOS development ;)" No one but Apple devs can stand being around Apple devs.

More likely they see it as a way to avoid learning new software or libraries as frequently, outside of JavaScript. God, I hate programmers that don't care about the end product and just fuck around with meme libraries because they're new.
