Anything you can run on a low end machine that doesn't generate a lot of heat is good, Wii shit, emulator shit and other stuff like that.

For themes tropical is pretty good, farming sims like the Rune Factory and OG harvest moon games are decent.

Yeah, I fucked up and posted the same pic twice. It's pretty embarrassing.

Vice City, however, is a great game to revisit this time of year. Vice City Stories is also really good, arguably better.

Sometimes when it's really hot and I'm doing whatever it takes to cool down I go the other direction and play SSX Tricky or the Hoth and Rhen Var maps in Star Wars Battlefront. Warcraft: Orcs and Humans takes me back to a hot and humid summer one hear, but that's just me. When I want something hot to go with the IRL heat I just play some classic desert levels or something with lava everywhere..

Grand Theft Auto V gives off better summer vibes than Vice City or any other GTA game. All because you can do more fun activities in the water, which is what summer is all about to me. Visiting the beach, swimming, seeing lovely ladies in their bikinis, and all that good stuff.

Super Mario Sunshine and Wind Waker are also good picks for summer games. They also have lots of water, sandy shores, and sun to go around.

Psychonauts doesn't feel like a good summer game imo tho. You can't do much in water without Raz dying from that curse. And the skybox isn't sunny at all. It feels like it's permanently stuck at dusk.

Half Life and Postal 2 due to their Southwest setting.

GTA San Andreas and Crazy Taxi for the Eastern Coast setting.

FarCry for it's tropical setting

Power Stone 2, Burnout, Need for Speed and Just Cause 1/2 also make for pretty good summer games.

Gears of War 3 for me. Since 2011 I replay the original Gears campaign trilogy every couple of years, but in a specific way. I start the first game in the winter when it's cold, the second game around February/close to Valentine's Day, and the third game in the summer when it's hot out. Something about that sleeveless COG armor…

Brevity is the soul of wit, anon. Sometimes you really don't need a bunch of fancy bells and whistles, just a simple description of the topic and a few examples. On that note:

A bright, sunny game in a beautiful tropical hub world for the first act. It's a wonderful, nostalgic game to play in the air conditioning on a hot day. Heck, most 90s and 00s-era 3D platformers are good for this.

Super Mario Sunshine and the beach-y levels of Mario Kart are always summer fun (the Mario Kart level more from nostalgia of actually playing them over summer holidays with friends more than anything).

Wind Waker too. If summer makes you think about beaches and ocean and exploring, then that game has it.
