Because you lowered your standards and haven't played good video games for a decade if not more and with Sonic it's really bad. The game is good and has a lot of attention to small details, but I find it quite lacking and not as good as S3&K. Encore DLC also felt like it was supposed to be free update because it's too cheap to be a stand alone DLC.

I remember being in this exact same argument with my roomate. I mentioned Alice from the Disney movie Alice in Wonderland was cute while discussing Disney movies and he replied "I mean I wouldn't say something like that shes underage." I looked at him disgusted like he was fucking retarded. How messed up in the head do you have to be when someone mentions that a child is cute you automatically go to sexual assumptions? It may be hard to hear this but if cute = sex to you than you seriously need to get help because you may be a danger to children.

The fans prove once again that they understand and appreciate the creative spirit of the original games, and are not stuck in the mindset of "modernizing" or other such nonsense that developers fall into to try to capture new audiences. They even understood that it didn't just need to look and sound like classic Sonic, it had to FEEL like classic Sonic, and the only way to do that without source code was to reverse engineer it.

SEGA letting them make it proved they had half a brain, if only they had managed to find the other half and made all future Sonic games using this formula and engine.

Because it takes (nearly) everything that made the previous 3 games great and adds more, on top of avoiding the recent cancerous trends that ruin gaming (lootboxes, microtransactions, invasive DRM (removed recently), shitty reboots, SJWs and shoehorned politics). it's straight up an upgrade from its predecessors, fixing plenty of annoyances (Tails 1P control, Sonic getting a more useful ability, separate transformation button, can turn off super theme, etc.), and old characters that were under the bus for over 20 years.

Only thing you could nitpick is too many rehashed stages, no Blue Sphere from S&K, slow Puyo Puyo gameplay and lack of Tsuu rule, missing stages (including encore versions) in competition. and maybe co-op splitscreen.

I think that's only the case when your dev team is made up of a bunch of untalented hacks. In the rare event that you've got really good devs, you'll make a ton of money by churning out good games. Over the last year and a half from capcom alone we've had MHW, RE2 remake and DMC5. World crushed the entire MH series in sales, RE2 remake is about to surpass the sales of the original, and DMC5 already broke 2M sales in a niche as fuck series. inb4 >world

Slow puyo gameplay sucks, forced 5 colors sucks major ass too, but the biggest sin was not allowing offsetting: First to 5-chain wins. Period. Rotating puyo between 2 full columns is the oddest addition, considering it was absent in the original. It's even more jarring that you only need to tap rotate once.

Considering its purpose as a homage, I'd say it's good enough though.

The biggest irony is they make excellent Puyo games, although they kind of dropped the ball with Puyo Tetris by not including Fever, and forcing Puyo vs Puyo to keep the speedups they gave to Puyo when up against Tetris. But if you want pure Tsuu and Fever Puyo, there's Puyo Puyo eSports (sensibly renamed Champions in the west).
