Using Invidious feeds data to Google too, they aren't mirroring the stream, you're still downloading the video straight from Google's servers and they know you're doing it. The difference is it doesn't use the official Youtube API, it scrapes the webpage youtube-dl style instead (and probably actually uses youtube-dl). Hooktube and Invidious both keep Google's javascript from running on your machine, so there is a reason to use either of them over Youtube directly. Not using the API is better, because then Google has no power over you (they can't threaten to pull your API key or limit the amount of uses), so I would recommend Invidious. The only way to fully save people from the datamining is to actually reupload the video so only the one anon has to interact with Google. Polite sage for off topic.
