New Xbox Game Pass Specifically Designed for PC Players
>Two years ago, we launched Xbox Game Pass on Xbox One, and since then we’ve seen how valuable a curated library of high-quality games can be for players and game developers alike. It offers a great way to discover and play your next favorite game. We researched whether a similar opportunity exists for PC players and PC game developers, and we believe that it does. We also considered the importance of bringing something new and additive to the PC gaming ecosystem, and we believe that we can. So, we designed a service specifically for the needs of PC gamers and PC game developers. It’s called Xbox Game Pass, just like the original, but it’s a new experience that we are building together with the PC community.
>Xbox Game Pass for PC will give players unlimited access to a curated library of over 100 high-quality PC games on Windows 10, from well-known PC game developers and publishers such as Bethesda, Deep Silver, Devolver Digital, Paradox Interactive, SEGA, and more. And just as we committed on the console, it is our intent to include new games from Xbox Game Studios in Xbox Game Pass for PC the same day as their global release, including titles from newly acquired studios like Obsidian and inXile. We’re working with over 75 developers and publishers to bring PC content to the service and we’ll ensure the library remains curated and full of great PC titles across a variety of genres, with new games added every month.
>Xbox Game Pass for PC members will also receive discounts in the Microsoft Store on Windows of up to 20% on games currently in the library and up to 10% off related game DLC and add-ons.
>We look forward to sharing more at E3, including the great games coming to the library, as well as more details on when and how you’ll experience the new Xbox Game Pass service for PC gamers.
More Choice in Where to Buy Xbox Game Studios Titles
>Enabling gamers to play together, through cross-platform play and cross-network play across Windows 10 PCs and console, is vitally important. Building communities across all of those players, regardless of the store or platform they’ve chosen (console or PC), is also vitally important because it helps bring players together, allows games to find their largest audience and allows gaming to deliver its true potential of uniting people around the power of play.
>With that in mind, our intent is to make our Xbox Game Studios PC games available in multiple stores, including our own Microsoft Store on Windows, at their launch. We believe you should have choice in where you buy your PC games.
>In March, we announced that Halo: The Master Chief Collection will come to PC later this year, launching on Steam in addition to the Microsoft Store on Windows. We will continue to add to the more than 20 Xbox Game Studios titles on Steam, starting with Gears 5 and all Age of Empires I, II & III: Definitive Editions. We know millions of PC gamers trust Steam as a great source to buy PC games and we’ve heard the feedback that PC gamers would like choice. We also know that there are other stores on PC, and we are working to enable more choice in which store you can find our Xbox Game Studios titles in the future.
>We want to bring players together to create a shared player community regardless of where they play, so it’s our intent that new Xbox Game Studios titles include features such as voice and text chat, LFG, friends lists and cross-play across PC and console. On Windows 10 you’ll find this functionality in the Xbox Game Bar, which we’ll continue to evolve and expand.
Supporting Win32 Games on Windows 10
>We want creators to be inspired to bring their best content to Windows 10, and we want Windows 10 to be the place where gamers come to discover their next favorite PC game. We recognize that Win32 is the app format that game developers love to use and gamers love to play, so we are excited to share that we will be enabling full support for native Win32 games to the Microsoft Store on Windows. This will unlock more options for developers and gamers alike, allowing for the customization and control they’ve come to expect from the open Windows gaming ecosystem.
>When I think about the role we play as a company to support and evolve gaming on Windows, it’s critical that we make decisions that reinforce the open nature of the PC, focusing on how best to unite players on all devices around the games they love. That philosophy will guide us as we introduce new ways to discover and play games on Windows.
>These are just a few of our steps in a journey to contribute to gaming on Windows 10. We know that PC gamers want to see games, so I hope you’ll join us at our annual Xbox E3 2019 Briefing on Sunday, June 9 to hear more, including the amazing lineup of new games and offers coming to PC players.

The only difference is that you install the files and can crack them.
But the system is the same, subscribe and pay monthly to access a list of games, as soon as you stop paying you stop getting access to the games.

It's essentially game rentals, really. For buyfags and digitalfags who don't care about owning a physical game, it's not that bad a deal.
And I wouldn't say it's nearly as bad as streaming. The two are very different things. Hell, it's unknown if streaming will have the same pricing as this in the first place. No games are exclusive to this, so nothing's lost if this shuts down, and considering the price, you might as well be complaining about not getting to keep the movies you rented from Blockbuster.
>>16521471
Again, this is just games that are already out and you can buy separately so it wouldn't change abandonware in any way. As for relying on this for "owning" your games, of course you shouldn't, just like you shouldn't rely on Redbox to own your movies. This is either if you see a game you just want to try out while being a moralfag against piracy, or you know the game's not good enough to ever replay in the future, hence the rental analogies. And the fact that I have to defend Microsoft of all companies hurts my soul.

Their Xbox division made 10 billion last year. That's more than Nintendo, while Sony was 17 billion. It's not like they're Intellevision or Neo-Geo or something. On top of that, they have two platforms - something Sony or Nintendo could only dream of. And now they're doing the smart thing and trying to synchronize them more. When consoles fail, moving back to Windows will be seamless. This is hardly being relegated to irrelevance.
And when that failure finally happens it ultimately means jack shit. They're a trillion dollar company, next to only Apple and Amazon (and soon Google). It wouldn't make a dent to lose the Xbox division. These four companies are disgustingly monstrous. Nothing hurts them.

From a certain perspective, It's basically just a rental service. It used to be you had to pay $2~5 dollars per game for a rental period of 24~72 hours (depending on who you rented from). So $10 for access to a rotating library of titles isn't a bad deal in general. I think Blockbuster used to have a similar deal where you paid like $20 a month and you could have unlimited game rentals - but you were still limited to only one game at a time, and you had to fight with everyone else over limited inventory.
The only thing I really have against these kinds of GamePass subscriptions is that they'll be used as leverage to phase out the physical market. It's not enough to just supplement an existing market that includes ownership, but they're going to push until it replaces physical. Otherwise, at the very least it's up-front and open about it being just a rental service and doesn't try to obfuscate the fact that you don't own shit, unlike digital purchases in general where they hide behind the concept of ownership but then fuck you over with licensing terms to redefine what you're actually doing into granting temporary access to an account, access of which is contingent upon terms and conditions.

I'd say Win7, but the problem is that Win7 has now gotten to the point where many new CPU architectures are not supported. That will probably cause some major issues. I switched to Linux Mint after I got a new CPU myself.
I've said this before in another thread, but I won't lie to you, it's difficult to get many games to run. The ones that do run usually do so without performance issues, but you may run into driver related issues such as crackling sound or graphical glitches. Fortunately those are the types of issues that can usually be fixed by tweaking configs somewhere.
The good news is that Linux compatibility with games is on the uptake and it's higher than it's ever been. This isn't due to developer initiative in most cases, but mostly due to the fact that many modern development environments are so good at cross compatibility that all a developer has to do is click "Build for Linux" in their IDE and the game is ported. Vulkan and SDL are the primary drivers (pun intended) behind this.

There are easymode installations of independent distros, and nonsystemd forks. Maybe if you looked, instead of immediately defaulting to the absolute most cucked distro of all time you'd not need to spill so much spaghetti.

Well it's more of an issue that most (((colleges))) shit out shit tier artists taught shit workflow and poor usage of tools. I get that it's much harder to find web based animation because of the horse shit google pulled with stealing shit and deadlisting websites like newgrounds, but there's still decent animation that's managed not to have been wrung out by clique faggotry and (((Professional Education)))

It really isn't, if people actually break away from the youtube shit, and traditional monetization methods start making a comeback it actually wouldn't be all that hard for web animation to regrow back to a healthy state.

I'm also someone who bit on the $1 for 3 months of Xbox Game Pass deal recently, and I earned an additional free month from the Operation Spymaster quest on Microsoft Rewards, so I've got a few months stacked up now. I have access to all of the Xbox Play Anywhere games on Xbox Game Pass, which includes:
Crackdown 3
Disneyland Adventures
Forza Horizon 4 Standard Edition
Gears of War 4
Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite
Operencia: The Stolen Sun
ReCore
Ruiner
Rush: A Disney Pixar Adventure
Sea of Thieves: Anniversary Edition
Snake Pass
State of Decay 2
Super Lucky's Tale
Tacoma
Wargroove
Zoo Tycoon: Ultimate Animal Collection
It's not a bad collection considering I only paid $1 for access to these. I've already put over 40 hours into Forza Horizon 4 and I just started playing Sea of Thieves since the beginning of May. Those are the only games I'm really interested in so I got my money's worth but the selection could be better. I'm glad there will be an Xbox Game Pass specifically tailored for PC. I guess we will be seeing more games on the Windows Store? I thought developers had long given up on it. I remember Activision dumped Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare & Modern Warfare Remastered on the Windows store back in 2016, but nobody bought those so none of the CoD games after came to the Windows store.

My point is that it's retarded to try going for the consumer ownership thing when talking about a rental service.
As an actual purchase it'd make sense to be raising that concern but it's a rental service up front.

Yeah, he knows the industry in and out.
Microsoft is gearing up for the long game with Amazon and Google.
Sony could have a bunch of smelly lesbians as their console mascot for all they care.
The future of the market is divided between PC and Mobile.

Well push back when it starts to come to that, but they've also been killing off demos and shareware has been dead for years. Hell, Nintendo tried to kill rental services. So consider it a limited form of compromise. Yeah, you have to pay for it - but you get access to the full title for as long as it's available. And it's not even badly priced considering you had to shell out like $5 bucks or more for a demo disk from a magazine. Blockbuster's unlimited game rental plan was like $20 a month, for one game at a time. GameFly is like $16 a month for one game at a time, and it takes for fucking ever to ship and they're not even going to send you what you want to play because it's in high demand. They are fantastic for buying used in my experience though. Cases are in pristine condition, disks are usually resurfaced, and all codes and promotional pack-in materials are included

Well if you want to get technical, the game rental service and attempting to legitimize games as a service are two different things, the latter being something they're trying desperately to do now because nearly every software company is about to get raped in every country when consumer protection laws finally apply to software correctly.

Whats the difference of having and xbox or a windows SO for microsoft?
Its like they have an almost monopoly of the PC plataform for gaming at the same time they make some bucks with a dedicated console.

It's because dedicated gaming hardware and general use computers have generally always been separate markets.
68ec5f No.16524102
By the way - did they mention anything about segmenting GamePass between platforms, or is it just going to be one subscription covering both? I can't see them raising the price since that would just piss everyone off, especially those who only use one or the other - and I can't really see it being able to stand on it's own as a separate subscription. Especially when the same GamePass subscription works on both PC and Xbox currently for what few titles are available under it on PC.
Are they just going to take the loss in profits for people who have both platforms by offering more for the same price, and banking on the new subscribers from the PC-Only side to make up the difference? I hope their catalog has a few strong openers at launch or else nobody is going to care. Still think that if they really want GamePass to take off on PC, they're going to need to add the ability to play Xbox One games through virtualization so that they can just port that entire catalog over and hope that the selection gets more people in the door than are turned off by the idea of playing console games on their PC. Especially if they worked on getting their Original Xbox backwards compatibility up to snuff in lieu of an emulation solution. Even if it doesn't appeal to the mass of customers, it'd be a decent PR boost and a good chunk of public goodwill.
