Anyone still interested in the hacks of old games?

So far I've been waiting for the hack of Pokemon Crystal Dust to finish and Pokemon Prism is being picked up by a new team with the advice and blessing of the original hackers that quit because of the DMCA from Nintendo.

There's a finished GBA hack that is a remake of Pokemon Gold called Pokemon Golden Sun, but unfortunately it's only in Japanese.

Which hacks of which games have you guys been playing?

There is pokemon psychic adventure, a romhack of firered that gives you a drowzee at the start and replaces all the male gym leader with another female, lt surge is replaced by jasmine for example. after you beat them you can psychically manipulate them based on the level of your psychic pokemon you don't have to use a hypno if you don't want to. you can eventually fuck all of the gym leaders and in the grass gym there is a fuckable version of just about all of the female trainers, including a loli. also that gym includes group versions of the same actions you get for the other gym leaders but you need a higher level to get them

dont get too excited though because all you really get is a naked version of their trainer sprite and and some half assed text for each action

also the last romhack I played is Golden Sun Fallen Star and it's some damn good fun. Mercury soul is bullshit though because you gotta perma stun the two side mercury spirits otherwise they are just going to out heal and damage you do. maybe if I farm the rare drops off of the random encounters in venus lighthouse I will have a better chance but grinding that shit is awful

I've played several drayano/dio vento hacks and they're far too easy, yes everyone has full teams, full EVs/IVs and competitive movesets, but the game throws a bunch of godly pokemen at you in the first few routes and your starter usually has a new type (fire/dark emboar for example), rebalanced stats and improved level up/TM movepool, plus shit like life orbs, leftovers and the earthquake TM for cheap on early stores. I've yet to try the XY romhacks though, but i've heard they're brutal.

I can't speak for GBA, but I know of some SNES hacks that I've gotten a ton of fun out of.

Super Metroid Arcade. More or less randomizes which rooms you get from doors, and it's never the same exit twice(unless you live a really long time). You go as far as you can, and aim for a high score, or try to beat Mother Brain with whatever the game gives you.

Final Fantasy 6 Beyond Chaos speedcave mode. Think FF5's Ancient Cave, only without a ticking clock and with the ability to save your progress. And some random stores thrown in. Oh, and you run three teams at the same time. Try to locate version 57, which gave you 12 out of 14 characters to start in speedcave, the more recent version just gives you 4 people to create three teams from.

Super Mario Bros 3X. A damn sight harder than the original SMW, but it doesn't feel like it expects you to abuse savestates like most SMW hacks. Good graphics, good levels, good challenge all around.

Speaking of actual playable SMW romhacks, check out The Second Reality Project Reloaded(SNES Version). It's a toned down version of the hack designed to be playable and beatable on real hardware(without savestates). It's considered one of the best SMW romhacks by many.

Greatbhacks are usually the ones thatbcan be played on real hardware. I would love to see good Zelda ones aside from Parallel Worlds.

>>16520548

I'd just want a Crystal Romhack with all pokemon obtainable, restored Kanto areas that were cut in Gen2, a following Suicune with Emotions and trade evolutions to evolve via "trade stone" like in some hacks.

I wanted to buy 3rd party DS cases for that exact reason, and just print some custom labels for the GBA games. People claim some 3rd party DS cases don't fit GBA games properly, but my official ones seem to hold my games fine when testing just now. (I had to remove the booklets inside, but otherwise they fit with little to no bulging.)

Even though I didn't use the DS cases for GBA games at the time, I was still annoyed when gen5 cases didn't include the GBA slot.

SNES games tend to have a lot of different tiles to work with even in the same area. GBA can be even worse depending on the game. Conversions of existing games aren't unheard of for the SNES, but hacking the GBA is still in fledgling stages.

At least with Pokemon it seems the ROM hack community is moving on. Even with full disassemblies of games up to Gen 3 there aren't many new or content full ROM hacks being pushed out. Most ROM hacks are just QoL and feature updates of the original games. Nothing a la Brown or Prism that do their own thing. Plus more and more it seems the best way to make a Pokemon fan game is to use RPG Maker and the Pokemon game making tools for it.

b84efb  No.16521570

As someone who dabbles in hacking; a big thing that fucks with gen 3 hacks is how poor compatibility is with certain things.

Tools that modify certain things are poor or shit the bed when something like a battle engine modification is in it.

Its very painful to use the current tools for major hacks outside of "vanilla" styled things or just a bunch of assembly things.

However it does seem that the community in general has kinda dried up; not that fangames have replaced yet.
