The only "summer" game I can think of that I've played recently is Danganronpa 2. It takes place on a tropical island so it counts.
I have a lot to say about the DR games but this isn't the thread to say anything about them. I do recommend the second game since it features the greatest character in video game history, Nagito Komaeda.

Street Rod 2 takes place over the summer, where you use your break to buy up old cars, turn them into hotrods, and then race them for pink slips. Used to play the shit out of it as a kid.
Looks kind of like it's an earlier Grease version of Car Mechanic simulator, but I'm not sure since I've never played Car Mechanic Sim.

Pretty much the most appropriate games for the summer season I could think of. You spend your summer days at your parent's relatives home, exploring, helping or doing mischief, meeting new friends, catching bugs with your net (you collect them and have bug wrestling fights with the other kids) or fishing. The games really manage to give that feeling of reliving your lazy summer vacations as a kid even if it's obviously done through a japanese lens. I cant exactly tell what's different between the PS1/PSP versions for the first game but the second game on PSP has a bunch of exclusive content compared to the original PS2 release, while the fourth game was built from the ground up for the PSP.
They can be played without knowing much of japanese, but obviously it would help to appreciate the games a lot more.

Harvest Moon Friends of Mineral Town is my favorite Harvest Moon game, the game does have seasons so it's not exactly always summer but most of your playtime is going to be spent during the summer. Also can anyone tell me if Dead Island is worth a playthrough? Heard it got pretty lukewarm reviews when it came out but the tropical vacation setting is pretty inciting.
