There's the risk there's a compatability issue and the game just doesn't recognize it since it's third-party - unfortunately that's likely to be a port problem. I'd suggest trying another controller if you can if it's an option, but it's not the best. The reverence/apology option is used contextually, you can use it to alter the direction of the story, yield in fights and get unique dialogue from NPCs. Also, a guide is really, really recommended. There's an absurd amount of things that're easy to miss, especially how the story system works.

Ok anon, but that's going to be hard considering everything I post is just going to look like nonsense because you haven't played it.

I preferred the 2nd one to the first because of the longer story and greater challenge. The areas in 2 were also slightly bigger, and felt more alive as opposed to Rokkotsu Pass. I could reasonably see someone arguing for the combat in one being better, but I feel that the larger amount of weapons and variations in 2 more than makes up for it. I also liked the more subtle storytelling as opposed to the government psyop that was one. 2 also has best girl Kyojiro

I tried 4 but dropped after learning that you can't unlock best ending on your first playthrough. Game forces you in fail states.

How? The second game is literally just the first but bigger. Had a better story too. That and any game that lets you become a murderous drug lord is bound to be a fun time.

I started with the first game and it gives you a decent tutorial before you can even start the story. Jumping into the third game in a franchise is a bit daft, wouldn't you say?

It doesn't. In fact, she's just about the sole character in the game that you can't fug. Did you never see "her" night crawling scene? You run into some brawny sailor dressed in her clothes that beats you up. She is the canon waifu though, you can at least imagine that they do fug after the story.

mechanically i would say it's objectively better. the controls just werk a lot better and it has a more pronounced arc to each playthrough. it's also a lot easier to figure out what exactly you need to do for this or that playthrough, and also has the classic WotS weirdness to it that I loved so much in 1 and 2. 3 took itself much, much more seriously and as a result i really couldn't get into it

i've only played 1-3 but if my memories right the shortest play through can take literally 2 mins enter gameworld and go to one location to leave, this count funnily enough and longest maybe 2-3 hours? everything sort of happens in real time so you can miss an event or discover new ones. these games are meant to be replayed 20+ times

i think 4 changed it somewhat with an unlimited "time limit" so i'm not sure how it works in comparison

On what the game considers the "best" ending, not even close. You'll need to replay the game a number of times and complete specific missions in such a way that a specific set of the town facilities is running and the rest AREN'T. Then you need to take a mostly secret story path by killing two specific enemies at the very beginning of the game and then make the right decisions, which only really make sense if you've seen most of the other story paths.

As for the subjective best ending, well they're all like asses, everyone has their own.

4 runs in a "timeslot" system of sorts, each day has morning, evening, and night time, and they do not advance until either you complete (or fail) a story event or deliberately skipping them by sleeping in the inn or like a hobo on the street. In paper this simplifies the plot, but then you discover that the missions you take will open or close facilities in town like the casino. These facilities will stay how you left them in the last cycle, and as I mentioned, their status on beginning a cycle affects the events you can take and the available endings.

The ingame timeline is nonlinear, specific things only get unlocked when doing other specific things. Youre supposed to play the game through over and over again and a single playthrough is done REALLY quick if you go straight for the mission.

The entire point of the WotS series is that you play over and over again, WotS3 has something close to 30 endings.

For the torture segments, just avoid the tools and endure/parry the occasional hazing from the sisters. It changes up when you get the eldest with the water wheel which you can only endure and recover once your head is out of the water.
