Humans are the master race. I do like lizard people though. I'd like RPGs that don't have races be cosmetic only or even minor stat differences like +1 strength and -1 intelligence. Make them truly unique from each other. Orcs, for example, are warrior powerhouses but being a mage is a very tough uphill battle and they are also shunned by most of the world. Go all out with the races for more role playing potential.

Races in Games need to have a different mechanic be it gameplay or social aspects or it's a cosmetic that might as well be the characters starting class/country/faction instead of race.

If you want to simulate being a race:Let's pick something like having a tail be it either cybernetic or racial you would need a full matrix game or a chip in your head to have a good use of a tail,and then you would have to learn to use that tail since you never had one before.In pen&paper you can do all that because it happens in your head. VR controllers are still pretty basic but at least they are the first try at having both hands in a game.Combining eye tracking/Head movement with both hands tracking,voice and maybe pedals you are maximizing input a human can produce,we have those technologies for a while now but nobody made a good game to use them yet.Next step is to get rid of all mechanical input devices and have a chip in your head that theoretically makes it limitless but how do you tell a chip you are moving a tail you never had?Opposite of a phantom pain?

Playable non-humans in fantasy are lame and boring and make for a worse setting. I'm not opposed to savage races existing around the wild edges of the setting in small number, but I prefer humans only. Having elves and dwarves and orcs or some ocdonutsteel replacements tends to lead to boring settings with bland and monolithic races. I'd rather the effort in implementing them go towards making better and more interesting human races.

Orcs. They completely lose all the meaning of Tolkien's orcs and make them either big green viking murderfuckers or noble savages. Tolkien's orcs were pitiful, sad creatures that had been indoctrinated into a system of thought that praised ceaseless violence, hatred and despair. Divinity OS is a game that does races well. Where the play-style is very different depending on what race you role.

Undead is fun because poison heals you while the traditional healing magic harms you.

You also get a flesh mask you can where to trick living creatures into thinking you are not a skeleboy.

You can dive into areas that are normally impassible to living creatures.

Elf is also great because you can use your flesh-memory ability to figure out the cause of death for most creatures.

They are generally the best at finding secrets. Though there ability gets somewhat surpassed mid game by the ability to talk to ghosts.

Lizards get a free fire-breath attack and some poison resistance.

Dwarves and humans aren't as "unique" but they are certainly viable.

Dwaves getting more health and a petrification ability.

Humans get a big buff to their crit-chance.

Endless Legend and Total WaWa (plus mods) does fantasy races pretty well too.

The difference in geography and playstyle of the factions is pretty well done.

I heard Daggerfall did races pretty well, with kajits being able to climb walls and what not.

I think there is an almost 1:1 overlap of autism and furry. If you ever observe or interact with them you will notice they never look you in the eye, or avoid it when possible. I agree that the vaulters female leaders thing can feel a bit forced most of the time but I still enjoy the aesthetic and like most of their art. Broken lords and cultists were my favourite factions to play, broken lords are my personal favourite both theme wise and gameplay wise but I also really enjoyed the cult.

It can feel annoying gathering shit troops but you usually either use them as scouts or start snowballing them if no other faction is there to stop you, a single low level cult unit to convert and his ever growing escort of converted soldiers can spiral out of control and force an enemy to divert large portions of their army if it's left alone for too long. I mostly just enjoy only having one giant mega city though, it's the same reason I enjoy the Umbral choir in ES2 so much as well.

I didn't enjoy playing Ardent mages but I really liked the theme of edgy pain mage society where they try to hurt themselves as much as possible since pain fuels their magic. I didn't have any images saved but the Morgawr were also a lot of fun, probably my favourite DLC faction though they are a bit finnicky.

There are some pretty amenable xenos, like Kroot, who are cool to work as reliable mercs and just want to eat strong guys to get stronger, but the major powers contain relatively few xenos and they're all huge bastards, which makes some amount of sense when you consider what the competition is like (Orks, at least, are everywhere and have been for a long time) and how once you get a few trillion souls you either get raped by demons or do some extreme hardening the fuck up.

There were also all kinds of minor xenos powers, but the "fuck all xenos" rule created out of bitter experience with the major powers is pretty black and white and all the friendly alien bros and hot alien waifus got genocided by humie crusaders.

The closest thing to a xeno ally the Imperium has in major powers are the "good" Eldar, but they're only reliable when under extreme duress and will shrug, call you a subhuman (subeldar, I guess) and backstab the shit out of you any other time, and often for no apparent reason, because one of their seers decided some potential future might be a little better if you got fucked over along the way.

Of course, this is mostly thinly-disguised justification for grimderp, like the fact that jolly cooperation is almost never in the cards for those space elf fortune tellers despite how obviously beneficial it would be in most cases.

What I would do also is make them have the most towns and world support. Since they have a combination of being able to build successful civilizations and breed relatively quickly (compared to orcs who make shit village and breed very fast or elves who make great village but breed very slowly), humans have the most places they can go to find friends, quests, be safe, etc. Other races have locations based on their breeding speed but the quality depends on their ability. So orcs may have just as many locations but they're all scattered about the forests and they're shit, but in exchange they get far better stats than humans and you could feasibly complete solo or with one follower what humans would need a party (even of NPC's) for. Elves might have one city but you can just solo lots of things. Furthermore more unique races like plant-people would have further mechanics, like a spider race being able to make webs and trap NPC's and retarded players in it for easy kills, or said plant race being able to fabricate chemical attacks and heal in the sun, could also have a super spooky race that has trumpets. You can also have, say, lotteries to be these other races and players can opt-in for as many lotteries as they want, and since humans are the default choice they don't have a lottery. Players would get one character slot for their human and one for the current non-human they've been awarded. Not playing your non-human for a while can result in revocation of your ticket, which you can also do at any time manually. Dying as a non-human race removes your ticket and gives it to someone else (though permadeath for humans would be a thing too). Kinda vomited on paper there but it's an idea for having fantasy races that everyone can't just choose all at the same time because they want to. Set sail for autism indeed.

I'm not that big on Vaulters or mages but the Necrophages are great fun if you get some good cities and start snowballing with constant military victories, even just victories against hostile villages will still count towards increasing your food. Just get the giant worm monster and use it's ability to revive enemy units as cannon fodder along with your own standard cannon fodder to swarm enemies with DOT debuffs then let your elite beetle units and commanders do the rest.

Pretty interesting video. Though just because you can lift an item doesn't mean you can effectively swing it around in combat, especially during flight. Center of mass and weight distribution are very important to consider. Carrying a 50lb box and swinging a 50lb 6ft pole in a fight are entirely different beasts. The spike would work best if it were weighted more near the handle and treated like a lance, and the fairy could fight like mounted calvary using flyby attacks. (There's a pretty neat pathfinder build I saw for that, have it as a text file somewhere if someone wants it).

The razor would work better for assassination, since in combat it would be countered by leather armor and leaning forward to cause the fairy to collide into you. Poisons would be easy to slip into everything too, considering at that size you'd be damn hard to notice sneaking around.

Doesn't make sense to disregard ranged combat at all, since fighting in melee puts the fairy into more danger. A human archer would have great difficulty in hitting a moving 6-inch target 30 feet in the air that keeps flying in front of the sun or weaving through tree branches. It only makes sense to fly just out of reach and just rain arrows onto people.

I had an idea guy a while ago about a top down rpg kind of game that was basically humans vs non-humans, featuring permadeath. The main relevant point here is that because it's 2D top down, the graphics are far simpler and maybe an /adgd/ or A/AA could do it.
