It doesn't matter if you release the game on Steam or GOG or other platform, it still is a PC game since you can use any PC hardware to play it and you can get rid of steamworks DRM to play it outside of Steam, not to mention that in some cases there are games on Steam without DRM. For comparison you can't play cracked PS3 game outside of PS3 unless you use emulation, same applies to other consoles with locked PC hardware and their own operating systems. Though Windows game is more correct term if you want to be autistic about it.

Steam is a digital store, just like Playism, GOG, Humble Bundle, etc, it's not an operating system or some locked hardware, you play your games not on Steam, you play your games on personal computer.

There is no good big company which is worth any kind of support, though I do consider Nintendo and Steam to be the least terrible companies compared to others which is rather pointless because it's like comparing catshit to dogshit, both are shit in the end. The only suitable alternative I see is supporting developers directly, something I usually do. I try to suggest devs to release their games without DRM whenever I can, but unfortunately I'm in minority, so with lack of demand they tend not to bother, at best they release their games without DRM on GOG or Humble Bundle. I'm talking about small devs, not AAA companies which I haven't supported for a decade and to be honest with you, I rarely pirate new games too. I've been playing old games lately which was the only shit I pirated because developers of these games are dead anyway.

That's not quite accurate to call Steamworks the DRM system either. Some games make use of the Steamworks features only as an option for the user, La-Mulana remake being one such example. The game can be run completely without Steam if the user likes, thus it has no DRM. There used to be a system called Steam Custom Executable Generation, but that too didn't apply to all games with Steam DRM. Unfortunately, Valve (intentionally) conflates Steam DRM with other features that Steam provides all the time, so we still don't really have a proper term for the specific system used on Steam DRM games where you cannot run the game without also running Steam.

Yes, Steamworks has actually different purposes aside from being DRM, but still, DRM is one of its purposes too, at least this is how many companies usually treat it. Otherwise it's quite complex system, most of the time devs use it for multiplayer which is a good solution if you can't afford to make your own servers. The downside of course is that if Steam dies the same will happen to a game. However I think they promised to do something in that case, either they said they remove it from all Steam games or it was something else.
