I have just finished playing King's Bounty: The Legend, and I'm blown away. I haven't had this much fun in quite a while. There is a great feeling of entering a new area, finding every troop too strong, and fighting tooth and nail to get those few precious treasures, keep your losses to zero and slowly building your character up to the point where you can take out all enemies.

The main character is a fucking chad. Not only do you get three manly strong portraits, you can have a wife and children in the game. Three of them you get by cucking a guy (although in the case of Mirabella I don't know if it counts as cucking when you kill the guy first before you take his girl), the elf chick just wants you the first moment you speak with her, the demoness becomes your sex slave after you dominate her in combat (yes seriously, she calls you master and calls herself your slave). And one is a fat dwarf and no one care about her.

I'm going to play Armored Princess next, it's supposed to be the best of the series. Has anyone else played it? Favorite strategy, favorite race, favorite unit?

> What is it?

An RPG with tactical combat and with a huge world to explore. Think of it like Heroes of Might & Magic, but instead having many heroes on a given strategy game map you have only one hero in a world made of many maps. There are regular mobs crawling the map, guarding treasure, enemy heroes and boss monsters. You can take on quests, level up and all that stuff. The game is very open-ended, you can choose to follow the main quest right away or just go off the beaten path and explore yourself. Dwellings don't repopulate until you reach a key point in the story, so keeping your losses to a minimum is very important.

> The name sounds familiar…

The original King's Bounty was released in 1990 by New World Computing and was the precursor to the HoMM series. Somehow the game found its way to Russia, and the Russians got really autistic about it and started making their own unofficial clones. One of those clones was Battle Lord by Katauri, and when 1C saw the game they purchased the rights to King's Bounty and made it an official sequel.

> The rest of the series

There is The Legend, which is the first of the new ones. Armored Princess is the direct sequel and it had one expansion. From there another team started making the games instead of Katauri. The third game was Warriors of the North and it had an expansion/DLC. The fourth game is Dark Side, and it also had a DLC. Opinions of the last two games are mixed, although I can't tell whether it's from a buggy release, people getting tired of the formula, of whether they genuinely suck.

Kings Bounty is fun and I put 100 hours into Armored Princess but I really disliked the way you recruit units. I just don't think that limited unit supply is very fun. At least there are places that sell you infinite amounts of certain troops but it takes a while to get there. However I think that the "hungry shark" way of progressing is unique as you essentially slowly eat your way up to the top and pick off enemies one by one. At the end of the game my entire army consisted of dragons and I won every battle by spamming fire rage spells and dealing burn damage. So far I've only tried Warriors of the North and it's pretty much the same except that you get your winged horse much earlier, meaning that you don't have to deal with the god awful path finding as much.

Elf is best girl, but it's such a shame you get her so late.

The game was a bit buggy on release so I never got to properly impregnate her though.

>Favorite strategy

Four stacks of shooters, one melee, pound their asses with missiles and spells until they submit.

Humans because I like their aesthetics the most.

Anything that shoots.

As for AP, I played it for a bit with a paladin but it seems a lot harder.

I'm going to have to restart my run and try again one of these days.

In the first game the best units are Shamans, Evil Beholders, Demonesses, Necromancers and Royal Snakes. Necromancers don't mix well with the living due to plague and royal snakes get killed too fast later on, so I don't even have an army set I like. Stopped playing it after beating Karador, it was just boring and easy as hell at that point: I actually killed Karador and Xeona while skipping all battles in elf, demon and undead lands.

In the second game most units are good, so I won't list them. Dark Knights and Trolls are particularly good though, and in Crossworlds the entire orc faction feels overpowered. I've beaten the first half of the game using only Trolls, in one stack or split, depending on the situation. When I got bored of that, I got Royal Griffins and Griffins with all griffin boost items and spammed Phantom on Royal Griffins that in turn summoned Heavenly Guard to cover the battlefield in griffins of all kinds. Almost beat the game on Impossible with no losses, but once again I'm getting bored of it because it gets too boring and easy by the end. Maybe I'll switch back to solo stack Trolls for more challenge.

Armoured Princess is definitely the best in the series, I'd recommend playing it first and foremost and then maybe something else if you really liked it, but the first game is much less polished and the following ones slowly but steadily go to shit. Oh, and, don't play Crossworlds, it just adds a lot of gimmicks, OP artefacts, shit artefacts, makes orcs annoying to fight, one lame area and overall feels like mediocre user mod. But you'll have to play Crossworlds if you literally can't live without widescreen support. There's a user widescreen patch for Legend, but none for AP.

I was playing Crossworlds myself, because everyone was saying "it's totally a better and improved AP, dude" and I fucking hate it. I also forgot to mention that it adds some unit reskins with mostly new abilities, but they all feel like a user mod too. It's not too bad, but definitely a drop in quality in comparison to main game.

Read the thread, they're pretty good but you have to get used to limited army pools, so if you suck too hard you may have to start an area over. As always, you can also completely break the game with the right units.

The Viking one was pretty good imo, not on par of it's predecessor but not bad.

It's just the viking-setting, most devs never make it work just right as in it always feels… dull.

The 4th with the playing as badguys was bit shite tho, it felt so goddamn empty especially halfway and late-game like they ran out of time so they just left half the maps barren! tho i think i still had fun playing as the Demoness and seducing all those Chads

98f67a  No.16468423

It's like Heroes 3 with only one hero. Game won't take itself serious, but enough hard to scare away every nigger gorilla who can't do basic math. You have an unit limit which growns via level up and skills. This forces you to use your head instead of rushing ahead (still a fun option if you know the map), since running out units and cash will make you get an insta game over (if you have no units and can't buy shit your playthrough is screwed beyond repair).

Of course if you get familar with units and mix them well then you can make the game a walk in the park experience.

Here is some tips for newbies:

- Don't lose units! It's not that game where you can thrown away units (don't let the numbers fool you castles can run out units, some units are fucking rare)

- Hard and impossible enemies are doable, just use your head.

- Use your items smart, don't thrown away money. Also keep items too, later you can get skill point by destroying them.

- Start with Paladin. Later go with Warrior and if you enough good you can replay with Mage.

- Stealing shit from wandering enemies and tricking them is a viable stategy. Try to learn this on your first island. Dodge, lure as many wandering units as much you can until you master it. Later even if you do some big mistake and fuck up this tactic will come handy.

- Don't write down every shit in your spellbook. It has a slot limit.

- Don't upgrade every spell! Some are best at low level and crystals later become very scarce.

- Do the ingame achivements. They are fun and give useful bonuses.

>Start with Paladin

This is the only thing I'd disagree with, my experience with the pala has been terrible in both games.

Mage is easy mode and warrior takes some strategy to do but is still good.

The rest is spot on.

98f67a  No.16468453

>>16468434

I think getting back units is pretty solid for new players who have no idea how to keep they army safe.

Meanwhile Mage very spell depending and im pretty sure most noob will fuck up their speelbook at their first game. If you don't know how you should rush for the triple fireball combo then you will have a hard time with mage. Plus AP final boss army will have immunity against most of the good spells.

fc690a  No.16468454

>>16468434

Warrior is the fun way to play the game though in my opinion the +leadership goes crazy with it and in the end you're just rolling forward with hyuuuge doomstacks.

Paladin would be numba1 on the fun-scale but atleast for me everytime i play it i end up going for no-losses once i get the resurrection spell+skills to enhance it etc.

Mage is just boring and devolves very quickly into just throwing fireballs and waiting for the mana to regen between battles.

My problem with the paladin is that it doesn't get any offensive capabilities which I found a lot more useful than resurrection.

In contrast to that, the mage is all out attack plus summons which can be very strong and the warrior gets all kinds of crazy bonuses.

I'm speaking strictly about the The Legend here though, I haven't played AP all that much and I don't know what the major differences are.

Paladin is much better in AP since the skill-tree goes further and there's more spells, Order-magic spells in particular to throw around but it's still not as good as warrior or mage but atleast it's not shit anymore.

Disable it the first time playing, if you want to do a replay then enable it to see what it adds into it.

49f7ec  No.16471876

Paladin in AP gets enough might runes to get Anger 3 and Tactics 1 and enough magic runes to get Order 3, Distortion 3, Summoner 3 and Concentration 3 at a reasonable point in the game. As in, not too late to make use of and not early enough for you to lose interest in the skill tree.

Resurrection skill is great for throwing a Furious stack at the enemy and combos very well with Berserk, since you get +125% attack on a stack you can freely sacrifice. There are several good mind rune dumps in the mind tree now, so there's no problem with excess mind runes anymore.

It's my favorite class as she's not about the boring AoE spell spam and has more magic runes than a warrior. Being more well-rounded and having more options should make the game more fun.

Lacks humor and writing style of the original first two games, both Dark Side and Warrior of the North done by a different shovelware focused dev team. That and zero new things or new units. Just a different story perspective and that's all. I mean you could be necromancer in original too and didn't required to actually be vampire or anything, everything is the same except few balancing things and different skill set for new heroes.

On top of that expansions introduced new bugs and glitches.

This anon shows his lack of gaming history knowledge.

King's Bounty the Legend lifts it's combat mechanics from the original King's Bounty, an old weird game that's sort of a precursor for HoMM the same way Laser Squad was a precursor for Xcom.

The thing to remember here is that in most places King's Bounty is an obscure game that's only really mentioned in connection to HoMM, but in Russia it was part of the first wave of vidya games to make it into the country after the fall of the Iron Curtain. Thus it is a game that everyone remembers from their childhood and is part of the reason why HoMM blew up the way it did over there.

1c was clearly banking on nostalgia-bux with this game.

Also the mechanics are much closer to the original King's Bounty than HoMM. Like, the way movement functions:

In King's Bounty you can make your movements in steps, but things like attacking and using special abilities counts towards your action points allowance.

In HoMM you have to make your entire movement in one go, but you can attack after using your maximum movement allowance.
