It happens often in deep rock galactic. Escape pod flies away after some time and not everyone can reach it on time if you play on higher difficulties because enemies swarm outta everywhere.

The whole game has high sense of camaraderie with the whole "leave no dwarf behind" motto, people caught on quick and most randoms i've played with are more than happy to make sure everyone escapes.

I played Portal 2's co-op mode with strangers on Steam once. In my first playthrough, I was lucky and got a super helpful partner to help me beat it. There was a walkie-talkie thing attached to his robot (the orange P-body) that allowed the player to speak directly through a mic. His voice sounded almost too considerate and friendly (like Mr. Rogers but with a huskier voice), unlike the usual assholes I run into on Steam. And we finished all of that co-op mode's levels from beginning to end. Neither of us have played it before, so we had fun figuring out how to solve puzzles both of us have never seen before.

Never heard from him again after that.

I tried playing the co-op mode again with other strangers, but they were usually dicksucking faggots. They kept dropping me into bottomless pits, doing taunt animations afterwards, and then logged off. Steam's userbase being as helpful as always.

Resident Evil 6 has segments where the campaigns cross paths, and if you're playing online they'll be other players. This was really cool at release but nobody plays the game anyways.

Risk of Rain 2 has been a recent resurgence of strategic co-op play. Good players will point out fungus for engi, or backup mags for merc and artificer. It feels good sacrificing the money for a legendary chest, or some lunar coins, for a player who'll use that item better.

Then there's the shitty randoms who act like it's singleplayer and won't help anyone out, even if we're discussing it in chat.

i just had a run with a friend that went pretty amazing because were learning which items seem to help certain characters more or less than others. between huntress and engi there was quite a lot to share with the other player.

teamwork feels great, shame people find it difficult to trust strangers. not that it doesnt make sense to me. but its a double shame that they cant overcome the distrust temporarily for the sake of a game, its as if they just dont see the benefit.

True. My only friend and I don't play multiplayer often, but when we do, we operate on near-perfect sync, be it Arma, co-op games, SWAT4 or occasional MMOtrash. Not once did we kill off each other for shits and giggles, even when the situation practically begs for it, like in Portal 2 or GMod. We live a bit far from each other, but if I, for example, get in a tough spot, he instantly rushes in to help by any means necessary - and I would return the favor. Funnily enough, our views on vidya, politics and everything are identical as well.
