Holy God, I hate this game. Every minute spent doing anything other than exploring Rogueport or fighting is pure torture.
Most of the humor is just "100 things are onscreen at once!" or "Mario doesn't care about what's happening." Any humor there may have been in the text was lost in translation, and there are pages upon pages of unavoidable text. The game crams in unfunny text everywhere it can. And when it gives you dialogue options, there's no delay before it accepts input, so I end up picking the first option or cancelling because I was mashing through the text.
Every land you go to is dull at best and hideous at worst. The story hardly ever tries to get the player invested in what's going on, it just forces you to do one boring thing after another. And don't you dare try to skip straight to the important stuff; every step must be done in order, no matter how irrelevant it seems.
As bad as every chapter is, the Peach and Bowser segments between them are even worse. Peach getting perved on by TEC gets old fast, and she doesn't even get to help Mario this time around. Bowser is completely irrelevant and shouldn't have even been there.
The art is ugly. Mario and some other characters are made out of multiple parts haphazardly stuck together rather than being 2D cutouts. Every level looks like cheaply made crafts. Every X-Naut related character is ugly. Boggly Woods is a visual assault.
When the game manages to come up with something slightly entertaining, it draws it out to about 5 times as long as it needs to be. Glitzville makes damn sure you're spending more time on dialogue and walking around dingy hallways than you spend in fights. So much of this game could have been cut out, and the game would have been better for it.
The original was the only good Paper Mario game.
