Microsoft was demphasizing the gaming market, maybe from the fact that they weren't seeing the results from the Xbox and 360 that they wanted. Meaning that it was still profitable but the legal or production aspects made it unappealing. IIRC Xbox didn't sell as well as they wanted and the 360 was plagued with the notorious "red ring of death". On top of that, the whole "gamers are toxic" situation was starting to unfold. I imagine they felt that PC was just easier to corner, and, instead of fighting the game market head-on with Valve (like they were trying too), become the platform that the market was built on. Windows 7 is less than a year away from getting shoah'd. Buy your computer parts with your future switch to GNU/Linux in mind so that you don't get fucked over when you are eventually forced to airgap your machine (sticking with 7) or switch to either a horrendous (win8) or an giga-horrendous OS (win10). So don't buy Nvidia, they force you to use proprietary drivers with Linux and they suck dick, althoug not as much as the free ones, but AMD's free drivers work perfectly. Be careful when picking SSDs or HDDs because IIRC there are some manufacturers that don't care about Linux support and they work really bad with it.

I've found that it's only true if you work with anything related to video, audio or image editing, or you are a game developer using some Windows-only engine or, of course, if you play anything that only runs in Windows and dosen't play well with Wine. But on the other side you have software like Lutris which makes managing your games far easier than on Windows. Everything else is just as good in linux, if not better (Emacs or a good Vim setup is infinitely superior to any pajeet IDE, and many other examples like that). And you don't need to spend a lot of time fidling around with shit if you install some newbie-friendly distro like Ubuntu, Linux Mint, MX Linux, etc. That only happens if you install distros like Arch or Gentoo, or if you happen to be unlucky and have hardware that doesn't like Linux, e.g. Nvidia GPUs I must tell this again because I'm salty about the fucking drivers making me waste hours at the beginning thinking I had broken the OS when it was just the graphics card being a complete bitch.

Both head of gaming and ceo hated video games or Xbox side of Microsoft. But that part of comppany still had lot of support from powerful people (gates family) so couldn't just kill it. They even tried to de-emphasise gaming on pc. After both of them left and they got new leadership 2014 things started to turn around. Yeah it's still kind shitty but they only had less then 5 years to fix mess that was left to them. I might have seen how much more money they are spending for gaming, how they have tryed improve pc side and bought new ups and devs. Sure they had to kill some of their old messes.

Only time will tell how successful they are. When next Xbox is revealed we know how good job they have done.

The main issue with Windows 7 is that it doesn't have USB3 drivers in the installer. Modern motherboards don't have USB2 ports, and possibly not even a PS/2 M/KB port, so you'll have to set up an unattended install in order to get it to work, and then toss a USB3 driver installer into autorun with the right parameters to automatically install it on the first startup.

Besides that, Windows update will tell you that your hardware isn't supported and wont serve you patches, but since you're running Windows 7 I don't think you give a fuck about (((security patches))) anyway. There's hacks to force them, if you really want to.

I'd like to also recommend keeping GNU plus linux in mind, but I don't believe it's really there just yet. There's still a lot of small issues surrounding it and it's very important to many people that an OS "just werks". I'm very glad I installed a linux distro alongside Windows though, as any "bricking" update means I can still easily maintain access to my work through it and not suffer any setbacks.

And as far as Fable goes I do think they got way too particular and the general gameplay got worse as the series went on, Fable 2 is probably a good hopping off point for the series, but really they should tackle a different world than albion

Also there's the whole issue of there not being any real improvement to games since gen 6 and there's barely any reason for gens after it to exist other than graphical improvement.

Halo was shit with Reach, when they stripped out everything that made matchmaking great and added in many features like sprint with a goal of fundamentally changing the game to be closer to CoD and the other popular shooters at the time. And what would you know, that realism trend's already reversing in the other direction into a just as cancerous fad where every shooter has to be an ironic sparkly cartoonish joke.

Reach is also why the competitive gaming scene died. Halo was continuing to dominate the MLG scene even as they were funneling more and more money into other games. Halo's tournaments grew every year and then suddenly disappeared with the launch of one game. They even tried to cling to Halo 3 but it was aging and interest waned. I remember watching one of Walshy's twitch streams when he briefly resurfaced on the internet for MCC, and he said jetpacks, the map designs and especially sprint ruined the game for him, and he also confirmed that when reach released Bungie just dropped all support for the competitive gaming scene, and specifically with MLG, and it was just too difficult to have any kind of strategy or even balance in Halo competitions just based on how the multiplayer functioned.

And as a side, say what you will about 343 but at least they gave us MCC and we'll soon have it on pc with unlocked framerates and 4k support this year.
