ab5fdb  No.16317335

/v/ I've been gaming all my life (31 here) and I've been using my wrist to aim.

I've been trying to aim with my arm and fuck goddamn, I just can't get the hang of it. To be honest I slightly injured my forearm's tendon lol.

I've seen plenty of guides and videos and shit, I clearly have my desk too tall for this (I'm getting a solution soon) but there's also something else that I'm missing. Clearly more than a decade of pure wrist muscle memory is fucking up big time.

Anyway, do you have some suggestions for me in this particular situation? I don't know what else to do, and yes I've seen the posture of pros and they game like this forever so it shouldn't be hard on your body either. Thanks /v/

I've been aiming with my wrist too, I personally think the wrist is much better for smaller twitchy movements. As for the "not being able" to do it, you need one of those angular desks which let you rest your whole forearm on them.

c32bff  No.16317357

>>16317335

Why would you aim with anything other than your wrist? If you need to move your arm, your mouse sensitivity is set too low

ab5fdb  No.16317369

>>16317350

>angular desks

Ah yes I've looked into one of those, but apparently pros can play on a normal straight desk too? I've also tried turning the chair and the monitor so I can rest the whole forearm but I don't see a big difference.

>the wrist is much better for smaller twitchy movements

Yeah you're supposed to use the arm for big swipes and the wrist to aim

Make sure all your non-gaming mouse use is strictly arm-based, you don't need to shitpost that quickly. That'll help get you used to it. Since you've seen all the videos and guides, it just comes down to accepting that you're going to suck at games until you adjust. If you really have to, the extreme option is to immobilize your wrist and force yourself to learn, they make athletic/medical wraps for that.

>Make sure all your non-gaming mouse use is strictly arm-based

Thanks that's actually a great tip. And no I don't even need to immobilize my wrist cause the sens is so low I'm forced to use my arm. I guess I need to focus until my muscle memory adapts.

Thanks anon :3

Try 'aiming' with you whole upper body and see what you're doing. Than move your arm naturally.

I've honestly never noticed what the fuck I do with the rest of my arm, I just do what comes natural. I figure when it's a big jump like a 180° turn or more I probably use my forearm.

d6e292  No.16317630

You know, I don't actually know whether or not I use my arm or my wrist.

focus on using your shoulder. You'd be surprised how accurate it is. You could also switch to less intensive games. Plenty of point & click adventures will wait for the player

Professional gamers aim with their thumbs, ring fingers and pinkies.

It's really not that awkward to get used to, at least for me, you can get some real twitch aiming off, problem is logitech quality has really nose dived.

in my mind anyone unironically suggesting trackballs is corporate shills trying to get rid of their stock to minimise losses

you might as well just say hes gay but i appreciate your attention to technicalities

000000  No.16317854

Drop your sens super low for a couple weeks to the point where you've got to really swing your arm to aim. Then slowly increase your sensitivity over time until you find something workable. I did this with csgo, and managed to drop my sens from 2.5@800dpi to what I now play at which is around 2@400dpi and my aim is much more consistent now

5eaacb  No.16317867

>>16317369

I just turn up the sensitivity and play using my wrist and fingers (I have very long fingers). Having a smaller mouse helps, the kid that fit in your palm.

cause we all could use a bit of good ol' lulz.

Anyway yeah, the issue with arm aiming is also that after a decade of playing without paying attention to this sort of things, you actually wonder how the fuck you played during all that time.

I think that's why my arm is still in pain, but I'm not sure

Do you guys think playing/aiming with your arm will make you end up like pic related?

4af757  No.16319043

>>16319038

nah, you gotta lift weights, although contrary to lifting weights, bigger muscles means bigger muscle memory and also more strength allowing you to move faster not slower

7dd899  No.16320015

>>16317357

In most competitive games that require pixel perfect aim, the pros tend to set their sensitivity way low so they can preform more accurate shots.

ab5fdb  No.16320016

OP here, just got a new chair.

It's great and I can set the height so I can aim with my forearm doing a 90° angle, I still get pains in the tendon but that could be because I had to assemble it. I think I should remove the armrests I dunno
