Considering Kamehacon would easily net him a ton of income its important enough to focus on getting him there. It was certainly viewed as a tipping point and public victory as well, and a big thing for his reputation which is what's being focused on.

Especially for game translation and manga, you really need the ability to read and to decipher made-up words and figure out how to translate those.
Nobody doing game/manga translation has to do it in realtime, and nobody will ever expect or hire you to translate English -> Japanese. It will always be from a foreign language to your native language. This should relieve most of the stress that would come from other translation work.
My advice would be to practice some more. Get some raws and do your own shitty scanlations. Then compare them to popular scan groups and see if you picked-out references and got the names right.
Sometimes there may not even be an "official" translation. One Piece has official directives to change 10+ year old names regularly because they'd never been translated by the author before, just by translators who didn't have the luxury of asking.
The problem with damn-near everyone on imageboards is lack of self-confidence.
Make no mistake; being good at a job takes hard work. But it's clear that most of the people currently in these jobs are just getting them from friends and probably aren't great at their jobs.
You can do it.
Anybody can get good at anything if they put the time in.

I recommend finding partners to do a language exchange with. Converse with them.
Discuss news articles in each language.
You should be able to find a partner who speaks Japanese and wants to learn English.
In-person is ideal but harder. Try posting online.
If you can find the Japanese equivalent of Craigslist and post on there, that is ideal. Every country has one.
The key is to never be discouraged. The people working in the industry, in any industry, who are good at their jobs? They aren't the most successful because they never fail. They are the ones who have failed more than anyone, and they have learned from their mistakes.
Do not worry when you make mistakes, because you can view it as a chance to improve yourself next time. As long as you have learned something, there is no shame in struggling.
SA was recruiting into the US State Department two decades ago. There is literally no reason why anyone here can't get a skill, get in the industry, and then start recruiting each other and giving each other connections.

Its lower than western cartoons in terms of credentials and quality of people required. You'll rarely ever see a "great" show up in the western anime industry.
What's more is that females are held to a higher standard with their voices (understandably so) and the ones here just do not have the skill, or the voices for that matter, to match up to Japanese standards.
Maybe if we're talking very high-level professionals, but that's unknown.
"Japanimation" made its money in the west by both being ridiculously cheap and having excellent return on investments. Like the cartoon equivalent of junk food for the west, especially when they blow up like Pokemon and whatnot.
There's also the culture of Japan placing more emphasis on voice acting though, yes, but I think the simple fact of the matter is that voice acting here for anime is treated like the red-headed stepchild that unfortunately nets a decent amount of money for what it is.
I think it plays a part in why so many of these VAs are bitter not only about only being voice actors, but voice actors for anime.

I have been using it recently. And looking back at the initial versions to make sure I wasn't remembering it wrong, the layout is still nearly identical other than a couple of icons that have been moved around. The changes you're talking about all on the website side of things, so it's no wonder it'd affect the web portions of Galaxy. My main complaint with it so far is that the overlay is mostly pointless and crashes half the time.

The real estate is completely taken up, obnoxiously so. Its gone from clean, minimalistic to huge, obnoxious advertisements in your face.
Its also went to a windows 8 tiled look as well.
Look at how much you can see on your screen, and look at mine for comparison.
While mine isn't fullscreen, its close and when I maximize it there is essentially no difference
Now look at the second and third screen. Massive icons, not lists with thumbnails or small thumbnails with prices, and the Icons are BROKEN, they never load at all so I have this blank nonsense taking up space and resources in Galaxy, with all the little important information relegated to the bottom of the client

Too bad the tile memes on the right are completely pointless, confusing, and overall useless in terms of information about what they even are and the color scheme is awful (but I assume that's temporary because of the promotional WC shit or whatever)

The verified purchaser review option was cool but what's the point of a star system if you don't show the amount of stars as a visual reference? Why not a percentage then or something?
What does "filters beyond rating" mean? Because from a billion things I've looked at, it seems to have no rhyme or reason. Its not an average of verified purchasers or user reviews, or very likely not a weighted one at least since sometimes its utterly nonsensical
Anyways, all these cost exceptional amounts of resources to use, GoG went from a comfortable, modest client to a loud, in your face, broken abomination
I also think that the reviews take up more space, but there's less reviews per page and I don't think they ever increased the text limit beyond 2k characters anyways so that's pretty much pointless.

You have to fucking scroll the bar down for each individual message, I fucking swear that IRC, chatzy, literally every chatting client or site in the world did this right. GoG used to be fine, but they fucking broke it, how do you break such a basic goddamn feature? All my friends have experienced that one so I know its not just me, so what the fuck?
This is a goddamn abomination, what happened to my old Galaxy? I know a lot of people bitched and complained like I did when this was first implemented, for like a straight 2 months and even now its fucking garbage and has never been changed for the better since, it feels like its only getting worse

That's web side of things, which I've already addressed as being terrible- especially that they've been trying to push galaxy by default and labeled the actual installers as "offline backup". The client itself remains relatively unchanged. Just because the web side of things on Steam and GOG change doesn't mean the actual client software does. Fuck origin though, who in their right mind thought it was a good idea to make the entire interface a remote webpage?
I actually haven't used the chat feature on galaxy, so I'll have to take your word on that

I'm not just referring to the brokenness of things never loading, I'm referring to the interface changes. If that's included on the web side of things then I suppose I agree.
I don't know much about how much the internal software has changed, but this extremely obnoxious interface change is huge.
If you're referring to shit like coding and the actual nitty gritty of the client, I wouldn't know. All I know is that, as a customer it feels like shit to use, is obnoxious as hell, tedious, clunky, ugly, and pointless on top of being broken and slow now.

Not really. It's 4/10 at best, it has all of the same issues that Dork Souls 2 had, with the awful enemy placement, autismal tracking on enemy attacks, terrible hitboxes, etc.. But it doesn't have all of the variety in armor and weapons that Dork Souls 2 had.
