Is hunting and domesticating viable? Farming and picking berries doesn't work when migrants start arriving and you can't sustain your fortress.

Hunting is pretty good, just have 2 full time hunters and give them a few hunting dogs. It'll give you a steady supply of meat, and the hunters can server as advance warning systems for ambushes, or act as bait for megabeasts while your civilians run to safety. Domesticating is really good, just don't use grazers. Farming yields are so high that a single farmer can sustain a 150 pop fort.

I happened to be watching TV at a relatives house recently, they were watching some show about an autistic doctor. In this episode, a little girl comes in with some issue, forget what exactly, but it turns out "she" had testicular cancer, and "her" parents had them on puberty blockers since they were a kid because they liked dolls or some shit. Everyone kept shitting on the autist doctor for correctly calling it a he (he has testicles, how could he not be a male?) and shit like that. Then there's a drama about just cutting off the cancer nut or cutting them both off, which is what the mentally ill patient and his abusive parents want. In the end, the "asshole" surgeon only removes the cancerous nut, and the autist doctor inexplicably begins referring to the patient as well as a she.

It is difficult for me to comprehend how many people watch this kind of garbage on a regular basis, with who knows what kind of commercials that are likely worse.

I think most of the objections come not from fags, trannies, etc., being added to DF at all, but from the absurd default 1/4 number assigned to them. Generally in DF, when something varies markedly from reality (e.g.: pregnant mothers charging into battle and giving birth, carrying their newborn through the melee to victory) it's treated as a buggy mark of the game's absurd dorfiness. In this case, it just feels lazy and condescending. Trannies, for instance, if treated like vampires or agents as secret identities, could be worth plenty of lelz, much as the result of bizarre civs where the mountainhome was taken over by goblins/elves/etc..
