That's because the game will be shit. New Vegas was the last good game Obsidian has made, and it was released in 2010. Since then Obsidian has failed to make anything decent despite having both total creative freedom and funds to make a good game. They tried to shit out a Baldur's Gate copy and it failed, they shat out a sequel to it that was worse in every aspect, only for a bunch of drunk Slavs to take the most pozzed setting imaginable and make a decent game out of it (Pathfinder: Kingmaker).
Tyranny was a boring, poorly written slog pushing shit politics, and now they've been bought out by MS, and we all know what happens with studios that are under the MS thumb.
Not even Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky can safe this pile of shit because they'll be working against all the purple-haired clowns Obsidian is filled with. Just go play ATOM or Kingmaker and write off Outer Worlds as dead on arrival.

That's unfair. The games offer plenty of freedom to explore and a lot of ways you can approach and resolve various situations.
Now, is there an ideal path the game expects you to take? Sure. Are all skills and attributes created equal? No. They're not perfect games by any stretch of the imagination, but what they do they do well. I personally think New Vegas is the superior Fallout out of all of them mostly because they dropped the morality mechanics for the most part and built the choices around siding with the various factions.
>Whatever good there was, it's gone now
That's true for pretty much all these gaming auteurs. As soon as they leave the development team that made them famous they simply can't deliver anymore. Romero, Spector, Levine, Molyneux, Cain - none of them have lived up to their legend, mostly because it takes more than some attention-whoring shithead to make a good game.

No, the main mission in both games pretty much are long and linear.
>is there an ideal path the game expects you to take? Sure
Even though it fixed the linearity of the main quest in the preceding games, New Vegas still had this problem. The experience point system of Fallout is the main culprit of this, it's an outdated leveling system that sometimes makes rewards feel unfair and hinders you from taking alternative routes. IMO it hurts the game worse than morality system.
>>16201614
Not to mention the terrible gun animations and lack of recoil. It looks worse than even Fallout 4.
fe3e11 No.16201714
The problem with Fallout 1 and 2 is in the ending. The games ultimately end the same way, unless you "fail".
>Fallout 1 : You destroy the master, save the vault, and leave
>Fallout 2 : You destroy Navarro, save the village, and become it's Elder
Fallout New Vegas was a step in the right direction and came so close. The ending actually changes based on your choices. It's no longer BBEG was beaten and your designated home is saved! It's now the faction you have chosen to support throughout the game has won. This makes those alternative methods of solving a problem more than just a superfluous arc to the same end-point, but slightly more influential on the end. To offer a true "story matters" question that isn't just a shallow twilight zone knock off, they'd have to put the effort in making a diversity in the endings, and working out the complexity of reactions to possible actions. The guys at Interplay/InXile/Obsidian however, are too rooted in traditional staples to really see this through. Nix the leveling and hp systems in favor of a more realistic system. This actually legitimizes the concerns about logistics and survival. For example, if you get killed in one hit by a bullet, do you really want to tangle with a group of Powder-Gangers by yourself? Not unless you have a very good plan.

Bioshock 1 was solid but realistically the setting was the star of the show and eventually it wears off by the sequel. The flow of the game was like being on a boat cruise going to port of call after port of call and getting board of seeing the same thing with a different wrapper on it. The plasmids were not that exciting and the best part of the game was the suspense of the next jump scare tactic, killing all replayability. It's an 8 out 10 type of game, 8.5 at the time of release. But you are right, it is one of the better FPS released in the last decade and as mention that is no prize honor.
