>Are there any games from the last five years that are even worth playing?
<Twin Stick Shooters
>Assault Android Cactus(Pretty cool game with a lot of replayability, you have 9 characters with vastly different weapons and consequently playstyles)
>Nex Machina(Incredibly fast, probably my favorite of the list)
>Neon Chrome(Procedurally generated)
>Synthetik(Procedurally generated, this one feels pretty tacticool with active reloads, accuracy based on movement, distance, richocheting shots, there's plenty of good about it but it's proc. gen so it might put you off)
>Mr Shifty(More similar to an easier hotline miami where you play Nightcrawler, it's still pretty damned fun)
<Metroidvanias
>La Mulana 1/2(Puzzle based metroidvania with a hint of Classicvania gameplay, the controls might seem difficult but it's a blast to become a genuine ninja once you master them)
>Steamworld Dig 2(Metroidvania, with a bit of Motherlode and some really fun movement mechanics like a grappling hook and jetpack, grenade/rocket jumping)
>Outland(has the ikaruga gimmick, but base movement is fairly good so I like recommending it. The music is pretty cool too)
>Rabi Ribi(Bullet Hell metroidvania. It's breddy fun, has a lot of depth in various hidden movement abilities and the boss fights are great, even if a few of the later ones are reliant on eye rape)
>Turn Based Tactics/Strategy
>Battle Brothers(Turn based Mount and Blade on a smaller scale, basically.)
>Frozen Synapse(Turns of both sides play simultaneously, you get to play 4d chess with considering what actions your opponent might take. I recommend the second more, mostly due to how many options it provides compared to the first game)
>Steamworld Heist(Combat is similar to Worms, but with a focus on richochets, level structure is more putting the pressure on you to get through levels while sustaining minimal damage instead of taking out enemies, who do not grant xp or anything besides avoiding danger, and respawn at certain terminals every few turns)
>Invisible Inc.(Basically if X-Com2's stealth wasn't completely half assed like everything else. Sound mechanics, pretty tense gameplay that actually pressures you into going as fast as possible with a lot of risk/reward instead of yanking you out once a certain timelimit goes off. Balance and procedural generation need a lot of work and you might not like how certain levels feel like outright dead ends or discourage certain playstyles)
<2d platformers
>N++(revised version of the flash game. It's worth it for a lot more levels, more enemies, and a (mostly) killer soundtrack)
>Dustforce(Speedrunner's haven. Lots of tech, comfy artstyle and music, great level design)
>Toki Tori 2(Puzzle based platformer. Use your bird song to trigger various parts of the environment. Looks kid friendly but it's a lot of fun)
>Rain World(Survival/environmental fuck around game. Great movement, great interaction with elements of the world, it's the type of game where you can really enjoy yourself if you like to discover things on your own)
>Copy Kitty(Kirby's copy mixed with a VR missions styled gauntlet. It's breddy fun despite looking super ugly)
