The point of that post is that old MMORPGs weren't about mindless stat grinds, they were about world setting and lore, community interactions, and - depending on your level of faggotry - roleplaying. Even if some of the old MMORPGs had statgrind elements, they backed it up with interesting worlds that would be fun to explore with friends. Now it's just instanced LFG raids with random nobodies that you don't need to say a word to do, daily "kill 10 dickwolves" missions, auction houses to buy gear without player interaction, the endless treadmill.
Add on to that wiki culture turning most games into "follow this exact build guide" and lack of emotional attachment to specifics games, only faggots buying what's new…yeah, true MMORPGs have no chance of ever making a return. Most of the people who are still avid MMORPG players either stick to ancient games (often on private servers), or get their fix from EVE, since EVE is the only "true" MMORPG still in active development. It's entirely fiction, but it was discovered that he was actually living with his brother and two nieces after he accidentally doxed himself.
