I don't remember anything other than some HUD/QoL stuff. In Ranger Hardcore you have no ammo count in 2033 but that is still there in Redux. The watch also changed from one with an analog face to a digital numerical one, so managing oxygen supplies was less immersive. There was something special about watching the hands on your watch go around as your oxygen depletes opposed to just a countdown. There was probably a lot more, but I don't remember.

It's like they don't understand what people liked about the setting and just assumed people like the "post apocolyptic just like fallout lol" theme. Metro's strength was in it's dark cramped tunnels filled with dangers both seen and unseen. The surface was good because it was a return to what's left of mankinds old kingdom that has now been yielded to the mutants. It still had the right atmosphere because you spent it carefully walking through ruined streets and collapsed buildings being wary of the dangerous inhabitants all the while.
Going through some fucking swamp or desert doesn't give the same feeling, they can be great settings themselves but they don't match up well with what made Metro unique.

I liked the first game. There were some parts of redux that I liked too, but I miss the old wristwatch. Nice of them to make a brand new level featuring the spiders, new content is always appriciated. I'll pirate Exodus if I can. If not, I'll just forget about it. Would be nice with a new quality STALKER like game, though. I'd like to try being a sniper (if only I could get Call of the Wild to fucking work with deamontools). Something new and not clunky, but with immersive little details, love, care, and coding magic. Imagine a nice map, all sorts of oddities spread about. Maybe you have a small buggy to drive, with a storage unit on so you can loot more. Maybe install a gun on the side for forward protection. Park it outside a building, lock and secure the buggy, and head inside. Some level of detail to sniping, and clean scopes for once.

Whether or not you want to allow a Chinese spyware launcher onto your system for the sake of "free" shit games or not is up to you. But I will say that if Epic wants to really take on Steam - they're going to need to do a hell of a lot better on their actual services end or hope to god that the Fortnite bubble doesn't burst hard. They're so far behind in QoL features that Steam has been piling on for over a decade that securing exclusivity is really their only hope. Companies like Activision and EA can get away with it because they're really just selling their own catalog of games, with a few third parties tossed in, but if they want to become a real competitor to Steam - they're going to have to completely overhaul their entire launcher. As of now, even the Windows 10 Store blows it out of the water in terms of features. It's that fucking barebones. Probably more stable at least though, but I can't say for sure since I've never downloaded anything from them - but the Microsoft Store does have a habit of shitting the bed and invalidating the download, forcing you to re-download the entire 100+ gig game from byte 1.

And so what if they have "free" games? You can get free games everywhere on the internet. Legitimately, not even resorting to piracy - which is also an option. The only way they're going to be able to get a leg-up on Steam is ultimately to provide better services - which they're still a LONG way off from accomplishing. They're courting devs for exclusives, but exclusives are only going to ensure that people just buy exclusives through the service if they buy them at all. Meanwhile, Steam has not only years of QoL features baked in, at least some consumer friendly(er) policies, and a userbase/social media community that already has hundreds or thousands of games and tons of sales… I just don't really see people treating Epic as anything other than a slightly more useful dedicated launcher for a few specific titles like Origin or Uplay. Not a general one-stop game stop.
The only ones to come close to Steam at this point at GOG, and that's because they do actually have comparable QoL features and some consumer friendly policies such as no DRM. Epic's only benefits are really just on the developer end, and beyond that - they're a Fortnite launcher.
