Day 5: Trying to pick a lock with your hands tied behind your back is quite difficult, but I am a persistent man. After 4 hours of attempts I managed to achieve my goal. I will do my best to be careful and see if I can find some food to steal or anything to give some respite.
I creeped over to a nearby slave barracks and the enforcers left a gold mine. There was a book on the holy order as well as two full jugs of water and actual meat. I grabbed it quickly and started making my way out to a spare cage. I guess they weren't full after all, bastards. Just as I was nearing my new accommodations for the night 2 enforcers broke through the door on alert. I was caught red-handed, defenseless I was beaten down immediately. The men once they secured me in a cage treated my wounds and left me. The dumb bastards had no idea I had stolen anything and left me with my just reward. It was absolutely worth the beating, this time I took it much better than previously. I ate and drank my fill and got some rest.
I awoke to the annoying enforcer demanding that I toil hard for Okran's mercy and serve his cause to repent my wicked ways. Okran huh, I wonder if he is a religious leader or a deity. Back to work. I'm getting tougher, I barely sustained any injuries in my last beating. These enforcers are complete fanatics, true believers constantly repeating their platitudes like a cult. One referred to Okran as "The Lord of Light" I guess he is a deity after all.
They fed us today, Despite some bruises to my left arm and leg from last night I am in an improved condition and no longer malnourished. I am going to take this opportunity to do some strength training by over encumbering myself with extra shackles while I work.
Dirt decided to defy the enforcers and received a heavy beating in the afternoon. I do not currently know her fate.
I'm paying more attention to my surroundings, the number of enforcers and a mental map of the quarry. Freedom lies up a large wooden ramp that goes across the quarry ramping from the center to a walled off encampment on the ridge with a portcullis entranceway. Seems the enforcers stay up there at night as well with men manning the wall in shifts. There is also a sectioned off area of the quarry with a relatively unguarded path up into the wilderness though it seems rare for people to get tasked in this area given its poorly protected nature.
The enforcers work quite hard to maintain their definition of order, almost comparatively to the slaves themselves. Seems like they are stretched thin, I have counted about 18 of them in total. The slaves outnumber them about 3 to 1.
They've taken to calling me "Saint" no idea why I certainly didn't come up with it, but it is better than having no moniker at all.
Dammit, got the post again tonight. I'll take my chances at nightfall to see if I can manage to steal anything.
