I tried playing an immersive sim with a PS4 con today. After years of only using KBM, I kind of hated the camera controls. On a whim I enabled gyro controls on Steam, basically using the gyro for fine camera controls and the stick for large movements; it was pretty awesome, ngl. I haven't played Splatoon but my understanding is that it does something similar? Honestly I just want to know why this isn't universal for first person games on consoles, it just feels so much better–even when I am not trying to use the gyro control, the slight camera movements create a way more immersive experience than going between linear camera movements or total stillness.

I am still fiddling with the settings, but if anyone else does this on Steam, I'd appreciate hearing your recommended settings for the best feeling camera controls.

Does anyone use exclusively Gyro? I thought you were meant to use sticks as the main method and Gyro to fine-tune and adjust your aim.

If you've seen the anons posting in the Splatoon general, you'll see motion only with the joycon controllers detached is highly favored, but mainly as a result of those controllers being made for that kind of aim with swift movement. If you're talking the controllers attached to the screen or a really low sensitivity, then you can sometimes get away with stick for large movement and motion for small.

>Honestly I just want to know why this isn't universal for first person games on consoles

Because people who've been playing console shooters for years don't want to learn an update to their control schemes. If they wanted to play a shooter right, they'd already be playing it on PC. Nintendo was able to innovate here because they didn't have an established shooter fanbase.

>>15949207

You cannot play Splatoon using only motion controls. Your options are stick only or stick+motion, where the stick is used for large horizontal movements and the motion is used for vertical aiming and small horizontal movements. Detached joycons would probably work fine if the joycons weren't awful pieces of shit, but as is the best option is the pro controller.

they do, but most devs are afraid to push those kinds of things.

Took the words out of my fingertips. Console FPS is for knuckledraggers. Nintendo made Splatoon with the japanese market in mind, where multiplayer shooters are niche, so they had the room to create an objectively superior control scheme without concern for the preconceived notions of the audience.

Please don't ever fucking use that term again, you enormous faggot. Immersive sim is not a fucking genre and just hearing that term pisses me off.

>why this isn't universal for first person games on consoles

Because most people aren't interested in interacting better with a game. If the world keeps telling them that an interface created for text processing is the best for emulating shooting they'll believe it.

Like Goldeneye? Nintendo just believes in change, which is not always a good thing.

Anyway, people believing Wii's version of Resident Evil 4 was an easier port of the original forget it's the same game, it's just that the Wiimote made it easier to headshot.

In a PC you'll always get better results in shooters by NOT using a mouse. Prove me wrong. You can't. Science wins.

Analog sticks for rapid movement + gyro for small adjustments is an excellent control scheme once you get used to it, better than using a mouse in my opinion.

I had very high ranking scores in most of the races in Gravity Rush 2 using this method since being able to aim quickly and precisely enables some extremely efficient movement in that game. That is until Sony killed the servers. RIP.

I've never played Splatoon, but I hear it also has very good controls.

That was Rare, and GoldenEye literally predates dual analog controllers, let alone the now-standard console FPS control scheme.

Not an argument.

That's a stretch but it is undoubtedly superior to sticks only controls.

How do people put up with dual analog controls for FPS? I'm pretty sure KB+M was the standard for FPS before dual analog.

In any case, console FPS have auto aim, simple as that. Watch >>15949662 He's a fag for embedding youtube, but the video is right.

It's a very different feel and as games incorporate more of an analog feel in movement the more useful it becomes. Something like gravity rush 2 which has movement that can feel like the character is moving like a car drifting on wet streets with momentum and inertia feels a lot cleaner with gyro as opposed to the raw digital input of mice, and because the game is designed around a gradual adjustment it works a lot better too than if it were pure digital.

Not saying it's a genre, it's just a style of game. I think it's relevant because in immersive sims you're usually examining and picking up small objects on irregular surfaces like grabbing a penny off of a cluttered table. So being able to look around while also having really fine camera controls is more important in a first person immersive sim like Dishonored than in an FPS like CoD where broad AND fast camera movements are necessary. It's a valid distinction to make for this topic.
