It absolutely is. Just make sure you get The Guild 2 Renaissance and the latest patch, which I think is 4.211. Then you can get modpacks and other shit if you want, which is probably a good idea because they generally contain fixes as well.

Years per round makes your characters live longer or shorter, 1 year per round is relatively easier I think since it lets you level up your stats a lot more. Rest is self-explanatory. Maps generally don't matter too much, but more towns mean more places to sell your shit at. On Renaissance, might want to pick a map with ocean if you want to do piracy.

No. Simply because it's too different from everyone else and you're better off playing Rogue once you understand the rest of the game first.
Patron and Craftsmen have a simple cycle. Some buildings are used to produce basic materials (but you're likely not gonna start with one of them) while others transform basic materials into useful items that sell for more.
With either of them, you want to start with the transformative businesses and eventually buy the places that produce the basic materials you are buying from the market to cut down on costs.
I say start with that because it's the easiest way to make quick cash at the start and they tend to be less expensive than the production buildings. All you gotta do is stock up basic stuff, produce all day and sell at the end of it to the market.
Scholar is mostly the same with all it's buildings, but he does get some neat perks and tactics from each one, like holding a ceremony on the church to change political favor for someone while selling waffles. However it's still very close to Patron\Craftsmen in how it works.
Now Rogue however has nothing to do with this shit since you'll likely not be producing anything on your own, unless you're going with the gypsy camp or small tavern, which shouldn't be your main source of income.
You have pickpockets to put in the street and net you some coin, you have mercenaries to run a protection racket and robbers to waylaid carts.
Mercenaries are simple, just have them protect important places for some neat cash. Don't forget that they can be quite strong in combat and you'll get a lot of them.
Robbers are easy too, just find the closest mine and have them waylaid the carts that come from that.
Now pickpockets, that's where your best tool to make cash is. You can drop them in the streets picking pockets but that's not very profitable.
What you want is to find places that are likely to have a lot of cash or goods, then take you and all your pickpockets near it, scout the place first (it yields more money that way) and then all rob it at once.
Done to rich places, you can get a fuckton of cash in a single heist.
What's more important is that once you upgrade your Thieve's Den, you'll be able to kidnap people. Asking for a ransom is the least useful thing you can do with this (and it's still pretty good).
You can kidnap a political rival so he doesn't run for the same spot as you do or vote against you. You can kidnap an accuser so he doesn't show up in court.
You can kill and kidnapped victim behind closed doors so no evidence.
And all you gotta do to make this happen is trash them somewhere to cart their body away. Something your mercenaries are good at.
The problem with Rogue is that pretty much everything you do to win money will not win you any friends. You'll end up hated by everyone and you're gonna have to be very careful playing with that. You can't harm the businesses of anyone you'll need a favor next, you can't be unprepared to fend off thugs going after you, you have to stay on top of any evidence against you, etc.
Basically, you'll be shunned from society and you need to learn to live like that. This doesn't mean you can't run for political offices, and that's in fact a very good idea, but you won't do it in the traditional sense of gaining friends in high places. More like putting corpses in right places.

It's more that you still "produce" things to sell but more like your robbers "produce" a cart full of iron and gems that you sell in the market later on, but this only works if someone else is trying to actually produce said iron and gems.
Same for stealing with pickpockets since besides cash, you'll end up with items too that you can sell later. It all hinges on there being people that are actually making money and producing shit. Of course, they won't be happy with you "producing" their goods.

Patron is cool, especially since you can make cakes for easy political favor.
A farm requires plots (and there's a few of these) built separately, be sure to check what you can currently produce at your level before buying or building plots. It might be quite expensive at the start and they'll likely sell all farms before you have the cash for one (asking for a loan right at the start can help) but it cuts down on costs for everything else.

Guild 2 Renaissance requires lots of patching and Modding to get off the ground. Guild Gold works right out of the box.
Both games are not exactly the same though Gold is actually faster paced because it's mechanics are straightforward and doesn't have a true supply and demand economy. So you can sit down have a quick game. Guild II has a lot more micromanagement and will generally take longer to complete a session and is more complicated overall. I'd recommend trying both out.

So I'm playing Renaissance now and I fucking love this game. Even with the mod and patches it still has some bugs like pathfinding issues and once a sound effect got caught on a crazy loop and it was kind of funny then went away. Other then that though it's so far been cozy as all hell and visually it looks pretty fucking good. So how do you deal with the 3 character you can control at a time limit(unless there is a mod for this)? So I first have my character, then his wife, then the first child, but I will probably have two other children, and even the first one, will marry and have his own family? Since you can't pay for an expensive lawyer to buy the judge and witnesses for you you need to do the legwork yourself. Give friendly gifts (money, pies, whatever) and make friends or just hope they (be it the judge or accuser) happen to fall down some stairs with no witnesses. My take on it, rogue is the easiest to make money
invest in a rogues tavern. Hire rogues. Set them on pickpocket mode. figure out where the most traffic is by the markets and set your rogues there.
Super simple. You can buy two or 3 rogue taverns and then your making bank.
once you got enough money, setup a rogues camp just outside of the gates.
And ambush the fuck out of everyone, take their shit and sell it. For fast cash.
rogue is by far the easiest. Cause pick pocketing is the easiest to learn.
Now for the government. You try to get your family in there as soon as possible(bribe your way in)

Well, it is. Sorta. The depth is great. The fuckery is great. Just wait until you get involved in local politics, I like to play as a corrupt priest and curry favor with everyone who could possibly vote for me by forgiving their sins, etc. Not to mention the fun from wrecking the faggy catholic priests by walking into their cathedrals and reading a thesis in the middle of their sermon, converting everyone to protestantism. Once you get multiple family members in the local counsel, you can have all sorts of fun.
But it's also buggy, crash-riddled, god-awful imbalanced shit with mechanics that don't play well together. It's awkward as fuck when you play on a map that was in the original game and realize that it has no resource nodes at all for the stuff you need for a DLC class. And things like ships and warehouses feel neat but end up being borderline useless.

The desyncs will never be fixed. At the very best you can play a 2 player game for quite a while and have the host send you the savegame when a desync occurs so you can brute force a resync to keep on playing. But the desyncs will get progressively worse as the game continues eventually resulting in more time spent sending saves than playing the game.. Longest 2 player game i've had over VLAN was probably 20 hours. You can absolutely do multiplayer with one other person, just don't expect it to ever work with three or more players for any respectable amount of time.

I noticed that some diseases can alternatively be cured by sleeping when looking at the behavior of NPCs, but I don't know if plague is in that list.

Do your employees have 0 relationship with you? People with that low relationship often go into combat the moment they see someone they hate, it's possible your character is attacking them out of their own will because of this and then the employees alert the guards.

It seems like there are 2 ways guards go after criminals. If a politician with the order arrest has enough proof of your crimes and they don't like you, they can order you to be arrested, in which case a guard will drag you to the dungeon with no trial.
Or you can be judged and condemned, and then the executioner will enact whatever punishment they set out for you.
