Do we have any plans to get a server running when the next Morrowind Multiplayer update comes out? If so, what are your ideas for a balanced server? One of the main problems was how powerful everyone got due to artifacts and potion chugging. I think there are a few ways to deal with this just by using server settings.
>No artifacts, or just make them useless so their quests can still be completed
>This includes OP items like boots of blinding speed or throne room items
>Prevent the merchant money restock exploit
>Daedric armor shunned in cities (RP)
>Attributes hard capped at 200
>No Almalexia or Vivec souls
>Difficulty +100
My reasoning for this is that when we play Morrowind Multiplayer, especially on a roleplay server, the idea is that we're average dudes. So it makes no sense for players to obtain the same items or power only the Nerevarine would have. When everyone is a god the multiplayer isn't as fun. Also Morrowind thread since there's no one up I guess.

nobody wants to play morrowind MP because everyone who goes into it plays to break it like its single player. so you start out and in about 5 minutes you got a bunch of maxed out players wearing full daedric and many of the other broken-silly items just going around killing every NPC, and after another 15 minutes or so of doing that they realize there is no new content and they've played absolutely everything so the server becomes deserted.

That's the tip of the iceberg with that mod.
The owner was adding an arena mode to the game where people could fight, with different stages (one of the levels had knee high water to help people who main H2H) and a coliseum that rewards with constant effect enchants if you do trials and stuff.
It was pretty decent.
Progression was made slower by making every skill gain 0.1 the original rate, and trainers were offering training for 15 times the price, but a new system of exp was put in place to help revamp the leveling altoghether.
You could buy houses and furniture like chests and place them wherever.

>"regenerating health"
>"It turns Seyda Neen into a sprawling metropolis, completely changing the atmosphere of the town. It feels like New York City now. Most of it is ghetto."
>"it doesn't play well with other mods. lots of mod conflicts"
Morrowind Rebirth is trying to do too many things at once and you're unable to choose what you like from it since it isn't segmented. The new items appear to be uninteresting reskins as well. Your mod list might be nice without Rebirth. Besides, I think any mod that adds new locations or landmasses is problematic for TES3MP, it's already difficult enough find other players.

They lost a couple of key people. They're rebuilding but it's going to take like a year before the new guys are up to speed, which isn't really a problem except that they're putting off any support for scripting language off until the end and that keeps getting further away, and meanwhile vanilla Morrowind is having a modding renaissance since someone figured out how to do Lua support for it. So the community has sort of split from OpenMW for the time and whatever scripting OpenMW eventually adds will have to be reconciled with all the work that has been done in the meantime.

Morrowind is mostly getting bug fixes at current point, there are a few major engine improvements, and some of them are already in the engine but not accessible in regular builds, one of these is Recast navigation, which with the aid of generated nav meshes allows the AI to pick an end point and trace a path to it itself. Shadows have also gotten a lot of work, but now there are two separate implementations of shadows instead of just one, not really sure why this is, there's also a few more minor changes not yet in master like automated harvesting so it's more like Oblivion/Skyrim.
The construction set moves slowly unfotunately, there is still no support for standard features like grid snap, duplicating objects, terrain sculpting and much more.
>and meanwhile vanilla Morrowind is having a modding renaissance since someone figured out how to do Lua support for it
That same guy responsible for this also wanted to replace OpenMWs proprietary scripting language with Lua and give a greater level of access to engine functionality to script writers. Actually the guy left OpenMW largely because Zini is a huge cuck who thinks that his vision for OpenMW is worth anything, it's actually the most base vision for OpenMW that anyone could think of and is missing important shit like a standardized model format that can be easily exported from Blender, along morph target support and seperate animation files, as well as being able to set the texture within the editor instead of it's reference being tied with the model container for some fucking reason.
https://gitlab.com/OpenMW/openmw/blob/master/docs/openmw-stage1.md
You can read his vision right here, and while not all of it is bad, it really just needs to be more open to people who mod the game, since they are the lifeblood of the project and Morrowind as it is, instead of some old cuck who is currently working on his own unity based spiritual successor to Ultima.
OpenMW is still years away from reaching 1.0, and optimization is still a complete joke, the fact that Skyrim looks and runs significantly better with far more stuff going on and has shit optimization looking and running worse than far more games really says a lot about OpenMW

I don't get what you mean, like you want someone to fix the games base animations or the wierdly misproportioned rig that the game uses for animation, or you want someone to fix the animation system with shit like IK and animation blending? You could probably fix a lot of that stuff in Vanilla MW.
> I could care less if OpenMW doesn't happen and Morrowind is just going to become a giant lua monster in the process.
VanillaMW will eventually collapse under itself since the engine itself has hard borne limitations that can't be fixed relative to optimzation, and the game itself will eventually require more and more hacked in fixes to run on more modern hardware. That aside the guy behind the Luashit has actually pointed out on multiple occassions some of the crazy shit he could do like implement soft body physics, implement facial morph customizations and implement navmeshes, so in spite of limitations relative to the engine itself and its performance a buttload more stuff is possible, probably even multiplayer since there's already functionality for sending and recieving data through the internet with the MWSE V2.
OpenMW could potentially allow for a lot more and in a far more cleaner and more stable fashion, but it's ETA is like 50+ years from now.

As someone who tried to do this I can all but guarantee that it won't happen until either OpenMW gets support for a standard model/animation format or a certain modder I know finishes a blender plugin which lets you export to Morrowind's native mesh format. It already works but it doesn't yet support bone animations.
Without either of those, one would have to work in a really old version of Blender or 3DS Max and noone (at least not me) is going to spend that much time reanimating the game with animation software from 2004.

I thought of the old waifu2x version when I saw this post and was about to give you a snarky reply until I clicked on those pictures, holy shit anon that is amazing. I can't comprehend how the AI went about making these in a way thats remotely consistent.

Right now TR is mostly just pretty landscapes and books, it's a shame they don't instead channel all their autism into improving Vvardenfell because at this point there is a pretty stark contrast in quality between the two in opposite ways. One looks beautiful and intricate yet has no actual content and the other is full of content but is repetitive and sometimes nonsensical (Vivec is the perfect example of both). I also think that the whole idea of the story works best thematically when you're a stranger stuck on a bizarre island, as the water makes a much better natural barrier than the borders of the mainland.

WoW quests have poor writing because writers know that nobody reads quests. Some old quests would have you do things like search for female soldiers only to find their corpse after being raped then killed.

Quests in vanilla were as good as they needed to be, and I was one of the few people who read them all. Warcraft 3 was still fresh in my mind and it was nice to learn more about the games world. Then the expansions rolled around and the writing steadily got worse, eventually all quest text was easily skippable.
Props to whoever had to write all that shit though, probably had a lot of late nights at the office
