My psp just fucking died the other day, so i was thinking of getting a new one. i wanted the psp Go because i never had one and they look really comfy.

should i look for that one or should i stick to the 1000 model instead?

700808  No.15899920

A lot of people like the PSP go from what I've heard and I've never heard anyone who claimed to own one to talk bad about it

Go for it.

Or you could just get a Vita and effectively have a PSP with twin sticks and a nicer screen

26b255  No.15899926

I think the 1000 models are the easiest to put a CFW on.

is it easy to hack? and do i need a specific version?

700808  No.15899961

>>15899937

its very easy to hack, and you would need any firmware version 3.68 and earlier, ideally 3.65 and earlier if you care about a convenience hack that allows it to be permanently hacked without you having to run a homebrew application every time you start it up

hacking will work fine with either a 1000 model or a 2000 if that's what you're referring to

What battery exploit?

I've put CFW on a 1000 and either 2000 or 3000, don't remember. Neither was difficult.

I'd recommend avoiding the 1000 though, I know that the Dragonball Z fighting game doesn't work properly on it as you can't do multiplayer. There might be other games I do not know about. I think the people saying PSPGO are fucking with you.

Why not get a Vita? Expanded library, fully moddable, completely backwards compatible with PSP games, sd card adapter so you don't have to worry about soyny's jewish horse shit, emulators for everything. Plenty of cheap ones to be found.

I'd think if you ran it off the normal Sony connection and/or turned off non-manual updates, you'd be fine. Then again though, I was doing an update to a game I'd gotten recently, only for Sony to attempt to push through a firmware patch with it, despite never having done so before, so who knows. Best I can say is be wary.

The sole advantage the PSP has over a Vita is PS1 emulation beyond the official eboots, as Adrenaline isnt compatible with POPSLoader due of how the Vita emulates the PSP differently. Adrenaline has also some issues which you wont expect TheFlow to fix them unless people harass him to do it or fork a lot of money

b1dfcf  No.15900695

The GO has the better screen out of all the models and has bluetooth (you can pair headphones and a dualshock 3 to it), but it uses proprietary storage (M2 cards, 16GB max, no adapters yet), the thumbstick is tiny and the dpad while good (much better than the 2000/3000 dpad), is poorly placed, so you won't be able to "claw" with it, if this doesn't bother you buy a GO, otherwise the 2000 is a better choice, don't buy a 3000, the dpad on those feels mushy and the screen has scanlines, the 2000 has none of these issues and the early models are fully hackable without the risk of bricking your console.

Don't fall for the 1000 is best meme, it has a shitty dpad and half the RAM, which really fucks you over on the most demanding games and emulation, and you can't run the plugin that lets you listen to your own music in the background or cwcheat due to lack of memory (cwcheat runs but tends to crash).

I'd say go for either the 200X or 300X models, as you can change the battery easily. The go is also good. I'd not recommend the older 100X ones. I got mine when it first came out, and I later bought the 300X one because although the original played games fine, the wifi didn't work (it was a bigger deal then, than it is now) the L button stopped working correctly and would also get stuck pressed in sometimes and the analog stick (pic related) cover got removed after a while (although still usable it would hurt the thumb after some time playing). So it wasn't such a good idea that I got excited and went for a prototype, as the later releases didn't have these problems to my knowledge, and my 300X model still works perfectly fine.

At the end of the day, I think it'd be better to get a vita like most anons recommended, provided that you find it at a reasonable price. It's just a psp with more features, and you can hack it also.

A TA-085v1 is definitively the best revision of the PSP as it is a 2000-series with the ability to softmod. It is the only revision of the PSP to allow this.

1000 has 32MB of ram which makes some tasks slower, can have perma soft mod, no video out.

2000 has 64MB of ram which makes tasks faster, slimmer, lighter, has video out, can be perma soft-modded.

3000 has an improved screen which is a noted improvement over the first two models, can't be perma soft-modded, restoring soft mod just takes 5 seconds so it's not even really an inconvenience, has video out.

GO has video out through a different cable, proprietary USB cable, and different memory format (M2) of which I can't find in any sizes bigger than 16GB and also support PS3 controllers through blue tooth, allowing proper 240p component output of PS1 games with a PS1 friendly controller, surprisingly comfortable and nicely compact, 3000 screen.

They're all fine really but the lack of an adapter for microsd to M2 makes the GO less desirable. Getting a 2x Micro SD to Memory Stick Duo adapter and loading it with 128GB of storage can really be a delight. Be careful about removing those sticks frequently as they're very fragile.

01f4eb  No.15902063

Bought my PSP new for cheap after the end of their life for piracy. I actually wound up buying (or receiving for free legit in the case of Gurumin) every English game I spent significant time on except Dungeons and Dragons Tactics (no digital version and tiny tiny print run). Granted I don't think I spent more than 20 bucks on any of them and most were even cheaper.

For the models, basically what

>>15901864

says. Two amends I'd add

>proprietary USB cable

Do note that you really shouldn't be using the USB cable. The speed bottleneck is horrible. Take out your microsd and put it in a USB 3 adapter and you'll transfer shit to it in a tiny, tiny fraction of the time.

> different memory format (M2) of which I can't find in any sizes bigger than 16GB

This is unlikely to be relevant though, since any sane person will buy a micro-SD adapter for either. M2 adapters are harder to find, but checking Amazon shows they absolutely exist and are in the same price range.

One warning with Kenka Banchou: It has a tendency to crash because the PSP, at release, was underclocked and Sony let devs use the full clock in a official update. CFW, by default, runs all games with the full clockspeed and while it helps for a lot of early games this also causes Kenka Banchou to crash. I don't remember how to disable this though.

>Do note that you really shouldn't be using the USB cable. The speed bottleneck is horrible. Take out your microsd and put it in a USB 3 adapter and you'll transfer shit to it in a tiny, tiny fraction of the time.

Most people with a GO don't use M2 cards at all since they're rare and expensive, USB transfer is an absolute necessity, even the biggest game which is FF type 0 takes 10 minutes to fully transfer, that's nothing.

>This is unlikely to be relevant though, since any sane person will buy a micro-SD adapter for either. M2 adapters are harder to find, but checking Amazon shows they absolutely exist and are in the same price range.

Micro SD to M2 adapters don't exist yet, those "adapters" you saw on amazon are most likely the ones that require you to unscrew your PSP and wreck the M2 slot to fit a micro SD slot near the battery, they do work, but you need to permanently modify your PSP GO and they are almost never on stock since these things aren't mass produced, the guy who made them is from japan and he sells them rarely due to how much of a hassle they are, and due to the GO's lack of popularity the chinks didn't immediately rip it off to sell unlike the vita adapter which got chink bootlegs 5 hours after release.

Just keep your psp at default speeds, the few games that need "overclocking" to run (Ghost of Sparta, Busou Shinki MK2, Type 0, KHBBS) do so by themselves, overclocking does nothing for the PSP, you may be thinking of the Vita where overclocking some games can give you massive framerate boosts and the ability to run games at their original resolution.

The 3DS ended up being fully patched eventually, apart from people exploiting the service backdoor which still required a DS flash cart. Nintendo never cared enough to fully patch the WiiU because nobody bought it so why bother? Purchased a 2000 like 2 days ago and I'm very happy with it so far, I hear 1000 has bad ghosting and 3000 has nicer colors but also scanlines. The Go seems like it'd be too tiny to be comfortable and my hands aren't even that big. The 2000 feels much smaller than it did back when I was in elementary, but it's still usable, I recommend keeping a umd inside the tray at all times to give it that extra few grams of weight. Also, wow, the graphics in some of these games held up much better than I expected.
