That game brings tears to my eyes.

If you like burnout then chances are high that you'll like the Flatout series. They'e exactly as you describe, racing games built around running people off the road. They have very nice physics on how cars break apart and you can fling your driver out. I've actually only played the first one but it was pretty cool.

Wreckfest is the spiritual successor that was in EA for a long while. I heard it runs like arse and that the AI is shitty but that par for the course tbh with both EA titles and racing titles.

>Middle pic is Blood Drive

The game has a great concept (Zombies arrive and instead of humans getting wiped, we fucking turn killing them into a game shower). But the game is lacking technically (it has serious frame rate issues, especially when they ramp up the ammout of Zombies). Also while this is the perfect kind of game that COULD live off personality it's kinda lacking in that department. While the Characters are interesting they don't really DO anything with them, then the game play is the same, just repeated more.

>>15900005

>What is Vigilante 8

I get what you mean though. Sadly Car combat is a genera tied to other genera. If you stand back it's a way to translate Arena shooters to consoles due to controllers not being able to do the twitch movements they favour. And Interstate 76 is an even pit due to being tied with mech games (it's literally a reworked Mechwarrior 2 engine). So a technical Car combat game isn't going to happen Unless Forza Horizon goes full mad lad and does a Car Combat thing which I doubt due to manufactures giving out the licence being prissy over their cars in games

>>15900246

>>15900264

It's borderline bad. The physics for driving are unsatifying (IDK but feels like I always spin out going fast), and the crashing isn't satisfying enough to make up for it. The extra modes are a neat addition but no one is online to play, ever.

>>15900676

Burnout and Flatout are very different beasts though. Flatout is good if you liked the old demolition derby titles. Burnout, fuck maybe Split/second or Blur are the closest competitors?

git gud

Learn driving only with decap items, q to smash their heads in following up with a decap or to push them off a cliff, learn to zone out the traffic on the road for safe areas of a track, hit brakes to make sharp turns without dropping much speed, learn to abuse midas west on easier characters, try to save explosives for harder missions like boss battles, jumpjets are handy, going online will teach you how to swim through incoming traffic and how to properly dodge and block attacks, getting gud at RR:Jailbreak would also help, it's probably the reason why I got all of the achievements AND unlocks without the anti-achievement.

>>15905601

>It's borderline bad.

It's not, it's solid mediocre at worst. Physics are not the problem, the problem is that you start with shittiest engine stat possible for the mechanic. Problems of Resurrection are as follows:

>Singleplayer mode is basically a training mode for multiplayer (there are no special scripted stages and there is a focus on mp gamemodes in sp)

>There are too many chapters

>You have to replay the same stages way too many times

>You start with way too low on engines and armor stats

>Armor and power difference is way more brutal than in the earlier entries

>Game optimization was garbage on launch

>Stages are Carmageddon 1 tier entertainment, which is just above being serviceable

>No distinctive visuals for out of game elements (menus, info screens, element composition etc.)

Basically we got a modern Carmageddon 1, which isn't awful, but it got devs and players to overestimate the actual quality of the game, which gets everyone disappointed.

>Despite the 989 games getting a bad rap

They deserved it though, TM3 was the worst game in the series, well, until TM4 came out, then it was entirely undeserved.

Vigilante 8: 2nd Offense had FUCK all bugtesting for the PSX version. If you drop Convoy or Trash Man's special weapons (either by using them up, or having them ready when running over a fourth weapon type pickup), the game fucking crashes. Not an issue on the Dreamcast versions, and you can get the levels from the original V8 by inputting OLD LEVELS in the password screen. Handy. Too bad the DC controller fucking sucks for V8.

bought it, and am now refunding this shit.

Cars have too much health, guns do very little damage, there's no default guns with infinite ammo, the boost depletes far too quickly, the boost takes too long to get you to a good speed, the cars go too slow in general, the fast drop shouldn't use up boost yet it does, the handbrake isn't effective enough for turning around, and the guns have very little ammo.

I constantly found myself unloading all my ammo into an enemy just to find that they still had 50% health. I always had no boost, and I was always groaning at how long it took to get anywhere. Once I got near an enemy, I would boost into them, slide under them from the boost impact, turn around with handbrake (which takes forever to do), and then unload into them. This would only result in a kill if I had multiple different weapons, and the enemy was already weakened. If i put up my shield to escape, I couldn't put it away, I had to leave it deployed even after escaping.

There's more problems that I haven't mentioned with the games design, but it's not worth my time. also:

They just feel like they don't have grip they should. Though now that you mention it, yes the cars were also too weak if you didn't have already ludicrous like the Plow. And it's not helped by the enemy AI being suspiciously strong even on normal and being limited on the APO.

I think it being called a Remake of Carmageddon 1 is fair.

Rouge Trip was stupid fun and IDK why there hasn't been another Crazy Taxi but with guns like it (or Quarantine).

But given it was a project done purely for the fact Jaffe and the original TM devs couldn't work on TM they made Rouge Trip.

Given the Genera isn't as hot as it was back then and if Jaffe was going to make a new car Combat game it'd most likely be a TM title, not a new Rouge Trip. Rouge Trip took place in 2012 and I can't be an Auto mercenary. Well without having to go to Africa

In V8, a lot of the fun was hammering somebody into the ground until the game launched them into the sky, then send a salvo of heat seekers after them. IIRC, most of the "throw your opponent around" attacks are gone. Like the Turtle Turn-over attack with the turret. Down up down, gun. It would fire a green shot that would flip the enemy away from you. Good for making enemies fuck off while you're trying to get a combo total on one.

Played it for like 40 mins last night, wouldn't recommend it unless you'd like to support it. It's extremely barebones and the levels are about as plain as it gets, no music and you've only got deathmatch and survival modes, I think. The game plays ok, cars are floaty and the weapons lack impact, you do get a basic machinegun that overheats after a while and stops shooting, unlike in V8 where it just slowed down the longer you shot. Hoping they won't abandon the project, there's nothing like it on steam at the moment.

Most of the emulation scene doesn't like to offer direct download links to the shit they parade for some retarded reason, don't worry. You can get it from here

http://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/PCSX-Reloaded

Get a build for your system, then get the PGXP files if you don't want the characteristic "wobbliness" the PS1 games (the files don't come with the whole emulator for some other retarded reason). You still need plugins and bios too though.

BIOS here:

https://archive.org/details/SonyPlaystationBIOS_Redump_2016-10-21

Or here:

http://www.psxdev.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=56

You only need one bios file, but the most compatible are SCPH 5500 (Japan), 5501 (US) and 5502 (EU).

PeteOpenGL2Tweak is the overall best plugin for graphics.

I personally find Peops Audio Driver 1.10 plugin the most compatible for audio.

Get the Lilypad plugin for your controller.

You'll also need a CDROM plugin for the emulator to work. I'm using Mooby2 but it doesn't really matter.

It's very unknown to me because I've never played Rollcage and never really cared about Grip either

Thanks a lot, it looks, sounds and runs great now (on pcsxr). Except I'm experiencing a bit of a problem with the game screen shaking inside the window (also on fullscreen) when I take damage, any clue which setting might be causing this? I don't get this problem on ePSXe (instead i get a lot of other problems like flickering models). Oh well, guess I'ts just a matter of finding the right configuration. This game is super fun, the secret combos are amazing.

Something in those screencaps looks off. Try this setup.

Also the shader effect is a separate, optional file. It's the Natural shader.

Nope, still getting the screenshake issue. On psxe the screen shakes but it never 'leaves the window' if that makes sense. On PCSXR I can see the game image get pushed out to the sides and the black outer edges of the screen come into view. It's unplayable like this to be honest, gave me a headache. Bummer.

Is your GPU driver forcing some sort of rendering option in the emulator or are the options set to "let the program decide", etc? Are you running the game on a true 4:3 resolution (like 960x720) or a widescreen one?

Try running other graphic plugins, like PEOPS OpenGL 1.78, Edgbla's gpuBladeSoft or Pete's OpenGL2 (not the tweak version)

http://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Recommended_PS1_Plugins

Also try this BIOS file if all else fails.

Nope. I used the ps-22a bios as recommended on the readme and simulated bios, as for renderers only the basic OpenGL driver 1.78 fixes the screenshake issue. Thanks anyways.

Working fine then? PGXP also works with Pete's OpenGL2 PSX GPU Plugin v2.9 and PeopsOpenGL.

How has Jak X not been mentioned yet? It's got a good mix of Racing and Arena stuff.

Also did anyone else play Small Brawl? I rented it when I was younger and had fun (till I got to the first boss who pushed my shit). Seems relevent to bring up amongst the PS1 emulation discussion.

Fun fact, it came out AFTER Black.

I remember being enthralled by SB trailer I saw in my disc of Spyro for some reason. It really caught my attention. I finally played it this year I thought it was too slow for a TM game.

I think I vaguely remember playing that demo as a kid in a Toys R Us kiosk once. Kept dying to some monster truck, I think. I'll be playing Twisted Metal 2012 online before the servers shut down again

Why? Did you mean redownload?

Also I remember Roadkill being really stylish (sure the style is "we wanna be Twisted Metal Black" but it's still good). But I never got too far in it for one reason or another.

I wanted to go back and play it but it doesn't like to emulate on PCSX2.

It sucked. They switched the development team to the guys who made Heavy Gear, and one of their features was "GET OUT OF THE CAR TO DO PUZZLES!" even though Interstate '76's message was clearly "Never get out of the car!"

Another fun fact about I82: It was originally going to be Interstate '77, similar plot where you play as Taurus with Groove's sister Skye being your partner. They decided to switch it to an 80's setting instead.

Small Brawl was nice, I loved the Toy Story aesthetic (Toy Story Racer is also great), the levels were pretty cool, shame there were so few of them.
