I hope you're not referring to that stupid as fuck debate over multiple building selection where pro players were actually arguing in favor of stunting UI development so that their 500+ APM would mean more because you could only select one building at a time. I'm glad they didn't listen to the pro players on that one, but they did manage to fuck up SC2 in a lot of other ways. For me, it was the fuckup over the custom game system with the popularity system and a few incidents where they told some of the best mapmakers in the community to fuck off because they were making Blizzard look bad with their "official" maps. Yes, Blizzard, we still remember the Left 2 Die kerfuffle. Fuck you for that, fuck you for forcing a mapmaker to rename his map that was much more superior to your pathetic excuse of a map that was just a campaign mission with a 2nd player added to it. I still remember laughing when it released, thinking that shit can't succeed when the market is already saturated by DotA and LoL. I don't know what the hell are all these idiots thinking. Their company is ran by suits, not devs, so shouldn't those suits at least know the rules of the market? You can potentially succeed by making clones of normal games that are played once, but these are MMO addictfests. A guy who likes CoD might go and play medal of honor too or something, but a guy playing DotA isn't going to also play HoS, and someone who didn't find the appeal in mobas isn't going to suddenly decide he likes HoS.

I occasionally play it with casual friends, but the game went through a lot of changes.

Earlier this week I discovered that the game now has matchmaking restrictions when you're a stack. Want to have fun in quick match and make a stupid team composition? Too bad, you're not allowed to matchmake at all anymore. You need at least one "tank, healer or ranged assassin", and a lot of heroes that can fit those roles aren't allowed to because Blizzard said so.

I'm surprised they're pulling the plug. With all the i n t e r n a l d i s c u s s i o n s they have for every other game, I'd actually expect them to communicate absolutely nothing at all and just let the game wither and die. Like they've done with other games

Heroes of Newerth was the MOBA adaptation of Savage, Battle for Newerth 2, with all the units and some more present as heroes.

You could describe it simply as "tryhard Dota 2" because that's what it was. Gameplay far more restrictive, shitload more cosmetics and the community does nothing but farm MMR. By this I mean, set up a lobby with "+2500 only!" and the host is a 1800 faggot that just wants a massive bump after beating 2500 players, while risking a very small loss of rank if he loses.

I really wish the game was more like this.

The ony thing that HOTS does better than other mobas is the flow of the game feels a lot faster. Very, very short farming phase and pretty much just ganks and teamfights all over the map after that, neutral objectives being quite important.

It was a lot more fun to play than LoL or Dota specifically for that and they should go with this.

Having to change past heroes to fit in this new design is fairly normal, they had a fuckton of heroes before that weren't designed for this type of gameplay, so obviously they'd have to change them, which is a lot better than not changing anything and leaving only 5-6 recent heroes as the only viable choices.

Imho it was exactly the other way around. They designed Starcraft II to be fun to watch but not fun to play.

I think the most obvious example was them increasing the starting number of workers (around LotV, was it?) and decreasing the individual yield of mineral fields. Everything had to be fast and flashy so that the audience would not get bored when the Gosu's battled it out.

That said audience would much rather have seen changes in unit pathfinding (no more blobs of death) or generally the massive horde armies that invariably ended up clobbering one another flew right above their head.

Overwatch focusing on esports really was bad for it. Almost everyone I know who plays that game cares zero% for that, to the point even if they played the game a lot they play it less and less now because they, like most people, don't play arena shooters competitively and just want to have fun for an hour from time to time.
