MK9 and MKX, because WB is in charge, miss the fact that MK, at it's core, is fucking silly as shit and meant to be so over the top that a fatality is gruesome the first time you watch it, but you end up laughing your ass off at it later because it's so stupid. That's the theme of mortal kombat in that it plays up all the old action and martial arts shit, but then makes it so absurd that it CAN'T be taken seriously.
After playing MKX, the two favorite fatalities for me were "Here's Johnny!" and Kotal's heart removal fatality just because they were either simple or super silly.
On a side note, Kahn is still dead and will have no role in the story. He'll be just like Goro and Darkseid in that he's just fluff that has no real role and is just preorder bait. I may get MK11 a year or two after it comes out with some spanky edition that includes all the DLC, because after MK9, I got smart to the practices of WB.
On a final note, I'm glad they are using Scorpion's MK Deception ending fatality finally

Gameplaywise is a lot better than anything in the original MK trilogy, which was really lacking in skill and the combos were atrocious seeing how every character had a different and extremely convoluted way to do them, the low/mid attack stuff was also pretty shitty. Speaking of convoluted, the story was either unimportant or simply bad, and that's ok, but MK9 managed to make the story of the original trilogy way better.

Hopefully you mean the game and not UMK3. And even then, MK9 had a lot of shitty decisions like P1 always winning on clash, forced hard knockdowns, bad proration so you can get meterless bomb juggles with Cyrax that took almost all your lifebar and of course, the infamous Sheeva with the infamous 0-10 matchups. UMK3 with the run also made it possible new combo routes and even that got fucked in MKX by having it in the same as the block button but they kept the retarded side switch useless shit. Also, MK9 and MKX still feels slow as fuck and matches can drag a lot compared to UMK3.
