What's your opinion on these games? Do you have any hope for the future of the series?

I think they're pretty great, there were some bad ones like All 4 One and Full Frontal Assault, but the majority of the series is solid.

I'm honestly surprised no games (that I know of) have tried to copy the formula, you'd think devs would try to clone such a long-standing and successful franchise.

2b5b11  No.15764242

they are shit along with all of the other playstation 1 platformers

Was the 2016 remake any good? I know the movie bombed, but I haven't heard anything about the game.

Original three main games were really enjoyable. Haven't played the ones past them yet. Used to hear really good stuff about A Crack in Time in particular, but lately it seems considered more hit or miss, at least here.

>Do you have any hope for the future of the series?

Not with modern Insomniac, no.

>>15764245

I've heard it outright removed levels and changed lines around. Something like the "Plumbers Crack" one getting replaced with "Hashtag Gadgetron" or some shit, like the previous line was now dated.

Out of the OG 3 I think going commando is the strongest. I always liked the series but nothing can stay good forever.

648365  No.15764470

>What's your opinion on these games?

I feel with every game it included more of the issues I had with the series and never tried to fix itself.

>Do you have any hope for the future of the series?

No, I had minor issue with 2 where weapons went from a cool extra pieces of utility you could have (R&C being a platformer with guns over a shooting game) to an almost mandatory means to out enemies with an element of power creep. (Along with the design becoming a shooter with platforming)

3 quadrupled down on the power creep the series had and from there it kept doing it on itself over and over.

I also absolutely hate that the reboot brought in this massive evolution of bad design ideas and forced them into the game I liked.

It's not really a remake, the game is retelling of the original game from Qwark's point of view. It's not a reboot or retcon as the events of the game aren't fully canon to begin with.

Going commando is on the top for me as well, but it's a close run. The first game had overall the best story, settings, music and mechanics heh, but the second simply beats it in amount content.

>>15764259

>pic

I really like that sobering feeling of going through the last couple of planets, where you really see the backside of the medal. It's not so much an adventure anymore, just you going through all these different dystopian settings, way beyond any help. The soundtrack and difficulty was very much on point here. The first game also did this to an extent, but Going Commando did this the best

>>15764245

A demake, honestly

less and worse levels

less and worse mechanics

same enemies all the time

took a big dump on the original story

soundtrack was very forgettable

Oh and speaking of distopian settings, I thought Orxon was easily one of the coolest levels in the game, and then on subsequent playthroughs I realized it was the homeworld of the Blarg mentioned in the very first cutscene, and is basically the place where the whole story kicks off, and yet the game doesn't make a big deal out of it, almost like it really is a forgotten hellhole way beyond any help.

The first trilogy was great. The PS3 non-spinoff games were passable. It has no hope whatsoever at this point, with the company being leftists and it being made exclusively for kids. The R&C games past the main PS3 ones have been dubbed into my county's language, which is a certain sign that they are made exclusively for young children.

>>15765643

That manga's fucking weird.

>>15765569

Second time through Orxon (after getting the oxygen mask) I think was the level that taught me to really start scouting for what was ahead in advance using the Visibomb Gun. That place was fucking dangerous and after dying and getting sent way back more than a few times, it really hones the idea in. Also one of the few legacy weapons useful in the second game, as while the damage is low compared to the new ones (like pretty much the rest of the legacy weapons), the utility provided is still very useful.

>>15765734

Personal experience with it is that it's passable. There are some visual glitches like the O2 meter not going away until you leave a given level prior to the O2 mask, and they did try to remove stuff like glitching into the hoverboard race track for easy bolt grinding (which just made people find another, different way there). Seen a few anons consider the collection unplayable, but I never found it to be that way. There's worse collections, but also probably better out there though, and with the PS2 games being so easy to find and cheap, you might as well go that route if you have access to playing PS2 ISOs.

It's fun, but if you go into it with the expectation of it being a remake you'll be very disappointed. It's built in the same way the Future games are. Platforming is almost nonexistent and shootan is the main focus.

Play it as if it were a separate game and it's enjoyable.

1-3 are timeless classics, even if I personally didn't care for 3 as much (same thing happened with Spyro 1-3, love them overall but the third game just rubs me the wrong way sometimes). Deadlocked was a mixed bag for me. I enjoyed the co-op and the weapon customization, but it had almost no platforming left in it at that point. The Future games have solid enough gameplay, perhaps a bit by-the-numbers as they seemed to have boiled down the formula, but the generic chosen-one plot points applied to both Ratchet and Clank (especially Clank) are a real drag on those games in my opinion. I didn't play Size Matters, Secret Agent Clank, or All 4 One. Full Frontal Assault had some neat ideas but wasn't executed to its absolute fullest potential (it also had some nasty bugs).

The 2016 game pretends to be a remake but in reality it's just a movie tie-in game, complete with the early-2000s-tier laziness of sloppily cutting up sequences from the film and dropping haphazardly into the game as a cutscene. It still has the acceptable boiled-down gameplay of previous games but beyond that it is a real disappointment.

b15aa6  No.15769688

>>15765569

yep, Orxon was really great.

I wish they would have kept the "show, don't tell" style.

surprisingly, it didn't make it into the "remake"

>>15767854

Deadlocked wasn't a bad game, but it felt kinda uninspired. Most of the time you'd just grind kills, level after level, and there wasn't much else to it. Generic and boring worlds, eh soundtrack, etc. There was definitely not put the same care into the game as the previous ones.

But on the same time the game had this genius story of capitalism and commercialization, where the villain would make a brand out of Ratchet to sell products. So to speak, selling out on Ratchet and Clank.

So, the game felt like playing a borderline cash-grap, while the game itself were making fun of other cash-graps AND making fun of itself for being a cash-grap.

Sorry if this is too convoluted
