So i was round a friends and talk turned to The Tetris Effect and how its basically "TetRez" but one dude revealed hes a hardcore 'pro' player so to speak and we loaded it up and he started talking about "T spins to fill the sideloaded well for a easy perfectris" and it occured to me that this is exactly what it sounds and looks like when hardcore fighting game players start talking about 'anticipation over reacting' and this kind of shit always makes me think of that Bruce Lee interview where he says be like water, it flows into the teapot it becomes the teapot all about adapting and maintaining a flow in the moment without the concept of self, ego or the future impacting the reactions of the now and the fact that games like Tetris and Street Fighter 2 were shown to calm people with anxiety or adhd because it puts them 'in the zone' and it feels like that kind of preparatory autism seems to show up in these two styles of games more than it does in tradionally 'competitive' games like arena shooters. Which do have strategy and nuance but lack that '3 dimensional chess' mentality.

Cant you think of another game or genre that puts people who are super into it in that kind of mindset?

Isn't turning into a dementia cabbage like Sean Connery?

d541e2  No.15753041

That is usually based on the person, not on the game.

>3 dimensional chess mentality

What.

Shooting games are like this. Simple and easy to fall into a flow state where your reactions feel reflexive and 1:1 with what you want to do.

I used to get that with Guitar Hero 2 which back on PS2 for one summer was an obsession with me and my friends. One day i was just playing Message in a Bottle on the hardest setting which we never did like shitkings just having fun and something 'clicked' and i dont think i blinked the entire song and did it perfect. After i found i was much better at the game and never played on the easier settings again, but also never got that experience again either.

Aside from that, I've had that zone feeling with complex shooters, you just have to be good at them and very involved.

Also had it with a small scale mmo that happened to have real time fast-paced combat based on skill. Had it with other types of games too, when I am very involved over a long period of time. High level trick jumping in long and complex maps requires it.

I miss the zone.

Shooters definitely can have it though.

Any game that has a difficulty element beyond game journo pleb tier and the ability for you to immerse yourself will put you into "the zone". You are so concentrated at winning you tune everything else out.

Bruce Lee died because of an allergic reaction. Shame he had to go.

Racing games

Platformers

Basically, anything where any degree of precision of movement and/or reflexes are needed to be maintained and executed throughout.

Competitive RTS games.

So Brood War? Because with SC2, forming a deathball and attack-moving at your enemy doesn't count as strategy.
