Recently got a printer and a 1541 drive for my Vic/C64. Don't really need them, just wanted them for the aesthetic. Got mostly everything I need for these two systems now, so all I have left is to get to grips with BASIC. May look into a Apple II or BBC Model B next.

Can't remember if some of this I had already gotten to mention last time someone made a thread, but picked up Resident Evil 3 GC, Super Mario Galaxy 1, Nioh Complete, Suikoden Tierkreis, and Samurai Champloo: Sidetracked, all of which complete and in great shape. I'll admit though that only some of that was cheap (Nioh for instance wasn't, no thanks to TK for not doing a physical release of that version here). Thankfully RE3 was only $12 compared to what it usually goes for these days, Nintendo Tax on Gamecube games makes pick ups for that system quite slow, even where I am. Also, as just as a kind of neat fact, I really do like how the disc label for Sidetracked makes it look like a vinyl record, fitting the series. Might check around places more on Black Friday, but other than that, I probably won't be finding much else I consider a good find until a bit before and after Christmas. It might not seem like a good time to look for stuff at first glance, but my experiences around here have repeatedly proven the opposite.
Been seeing some increasingly bad prices on stuff lately, and makes me glad that I have modded systems and loaders for what I can't justify, or doesn't even have a physical release here anyhow. At least I've noticed the PS1 Crash Bandicoot entries going back down to more normal prices than the $30 each they were for a while.
>Anything in particular you have your eye on or want to mod?
I'd love to find a better flash cart for my DS for fan-translated and out of region games, but either the type I'd really like to get (DSTwo Plus) is out of print and/or online vendors have been hit by Nintendo not to stock for the system anymore.
>You're playing the shit you get, aren't you anon?
Slowly, but that's how I like it, having plenty of good older stuff to play between both physical and pirated backlog. Games should be given the time they deserve, not rushed through just to get to the next.
>CONSIDERING?
A store out here has Azure Dreams for $25. Unfortunately it's just the case and disc, though that's also the reason for the price. I do my best to only get games (the ones with actual cases anyhow) that are complete and in good shape, so I'm leery of doing so. Does look like manuals for it get sold online for not too awful of prices, but not too often at that, and it's not a case where there's one immediately available. Not like the time I found PoR for $10, and doing a quick look online, found a manual ready for purchase for $5. Unfortunately, trying to find mispriced PS1 games out here has slowed to a crawl of late.
Beyond that though, I got an email a while back that a refund for $20 somehow went through for a game that couldn't be shipped. Which was fucking weird because that game shipped and arrived in April, and I even left the seller feedback at the time that it was fine. Not sure why the order was processed twice, and so late, but asking customer support, they said it was the vendor's decision to give the refund and I could do what I wanted with it. Really not sure what to spend it on. Been thinking about importing Bloodborne: GotY because fuck giving Sony DLC money, but from the look of things they've stopped doing a standard English print in favor of one that pushes arabic shitscript right on the front cover to show off how mudslime accessible it is, and honestly it would feel dirty having that on my shelf compared to the English only one. Tried asking a few sellers which prints they have; one only has copies of the goatfucker print, and the second never saw fit to write back.

Been meaning to finally get around to doing so for my Vita. While thing certainly seem better documented than when I last checked, I've still got a few questions to figure out before I actually go through with doing so.
>You going for a fullset or getting whatever interests you?
No one should ever go for fullsets outside of mass pirating roms for old systems, wherein the total required filespace is honestly pretty small. The amount of shelf/box storage needed is apt to range from a lot to absolutely fuckhueg depending on the system, and there's no simply no reason to buy all the shovelware, the licensed shit, the yearly SPOATS shit, and just poor quality games every system sees to some degree, more-so if the system was popular. Likewise, there's no reason to buy something just because it's rare either, or worse, for the "hipster credit" some places assign to it (I've actually seen people using that rational at stores around where I live; fucking disgusting). Always stick to buying what is of personal interest to you to play, if you feel the need to buy something.

Main question I've had being if the mention I've seen of PSN spoofing in a guide linked in the last Vita thread still works and is actually feasible. There's a few things I got a long time ago that I could never transfer to the Vita due to not updating the OFW in hopes for future CFW updates, so I'd like to know if it's still safe, or perhaps as safe these days to use, and what is the current likelihood of a ban (Sony is indeed shit but I do have some stuff attached to my PS3 and Vita I wouldn't want to find suddenly dead).
>>15750093
>Giving Sentai money.
Well, at least it's not too much each aside from Made in Abyss. I've got a small shelf and a third of anime I've found fairly cheap myself, but nearly all of it was second hand and out of print to begin with. I try to only spend $1 per episode (maybe $2 for OVAs) if not less, which makes it feel all the more absurd when I've seen stuff like the blu-ray for something like Akito the Exiled being five OVA episodes at a full $60.
>>15750182

>Nothing. I'm always broke this time of year, can never take advantage of the sales.
Kind of an issue I have starting in October, simply because of the amount of birthdays and then Christmas I'm expected to find stuff for. I do try to set some money aside just in case I find the occasional thing that I'm interested in and will kick myself for not buying (IE: Yakuza 2 for $12, back when it averaged $45-80), but I usually have to even wind up with birthday money I get having to go immediately back out.
>Semi-vidya, but I wanna buy all the volumes for the Pokemon Adventures manga. It's gonna set me back a few hundred so Im gonna have to buy one box set at a time over a few years.
I remember reading that up through the Sevii Islands arc many years ago. I'm guessing the sites hosting scans have been DMCAed due to native publishing? Or is it a case where you just want actual copies of something you enjoy? Still, I'd be wary if it's an English release. I'm pretty sure at least some Pokemon manga we got here had a fair bit of censorship, but maybe that was more Electric Tale of Pikachu than Adventures.

Assuming that's a CRT, is it a bulky one? Just asking, since I know there's some skinnier ones I've seen online at times. I haven't used a CRT in years, and regardless, my current space doesn't have room for a second TV, especially one as fat and heavy as some CRTs are. At least my old Vizio allows for component, composite, and HDMI input, and I think it's even got old cable nodes in the back as well, though I haven't fiddled with getting systems that use them (prices on the games I'd like for them being too high to warrant over emulation), as opposed to how I hear a lot of recent TVs are HDMI only.

If you get a Rhea/Phoebe it's really easy and they can run games off of an SD card. Thing is hard to get an order in for though, but if you just watch the guy who makes them's blog he'll announce when they're gonna go up (always in the morning his time which is mid-EU, if you're American like me get ready to stay up late for them).
>Is it a bulky one?
Oh yeah, the Sony PVMs are bulky and at 20-inches it's one of the bigger ones, I almost hurt my back getting it set up. Still it doesn't take up as much space as you'd think. Also if space is a problem keep in mind they made some pretty small CRTs, like you could grab a little 12 - 14 inch screen set and it wouldn't take up much space or be that heavy, and they did make PVMs in that size for hookups possibly including Component. Honestly I'd say you're not missing out on much aside from the display lag which can really change how you play old games not designed around it even if you're not really noticing it.

So if, let's say, I'd picked up a physical game some time ago that had some free additional content, but which couldn't be directly downloaded without updating and couldn't be transferred without a skittle for the game (which would require updating to install), could I safely access it from the PSN with a hacked Vita so long as the spoofing was done right? There's no Vita thread at the moment, so I figure I might as well ask here.
>>15750250
That is small. My last one, must have been a decade ago, was about as big as the flatscreen I have now, but it was a lot thicker than this one, and much heavier to boot. I suppose I'm not playing my older games the "authentic" way that a CRT would, but it's been so long since I used one that in a way I'm just glad I can still play all of the consoles I have off the same TV.
What's the price range on CRTs these days anyhow, assuming quality output and screen size to price? I know they're not in real high demand for the bulk of people, but I've also seen at least one make that was really expensive in years past.
>>15750253
Always a mixture of funny and annoying when a seller leaves the original sticker on it. If you paid more than the prior buyer, it kind of makes you kick yourself, but if they were asking lower and the game had since shot up much higher, makes you wonder what they were thinking in not at least charging what the last place did. Of the latter case, I found a game some years back, where the old gamestop sticker read as $30 or so, the game itself being $100+ at the time, and the price being asked $10 for it. Not that I was going to complain.

Hardbacks are gay as fuck if you actually read the books.) over reading it on a screen.
>I'm pretty sure at least some Pokemon manga we got here had a fair bit of censorship, but maybe that was more Electric Tale of Pikachu than Adventures.
I think that was just the Electric Tale manga. They hired a hentai artist to draw it afterall. As far as I know PA has no such censorship. I do believe there is English Asia releases though so I might just pick those up to be safe.

>What's the price range on CRTs these days anyhow, assuming quality output and screen size to price?
Depends on the CRT, most are going for nothing if you just go down to a local goodwill or whatever your regional equivalent is, but some sets are rarer, namely Sony's line of PVMs and other professional video monitors which have become popular among retro gamers. Still PVMs range wildly in price, I mean on ebay it's all hiked prices and crazy shit but if you can find something local through personal ads or craigslist you can get a solid deal. One thing to note about PVMs that does actually make them worth more is they are workhorses meant to run 24/7 and be repaired when something goes wrong (mind you this can also mean that they may have tons of hours of view time already on them).
It's a sticky mess are PVMs, and my strongest suggestion unless you want to either plop down some cash or hunt locally is just to get a regular CRT from a local thriftstore for as cheap as you can get with the best connections you can find (honestly on a CRT S-video is more than enough, but even composite is acceptable).

I'd have thought they'd get better as technology improved. I know that even black and white images have a weight to them, and Pokemon Adventures is a fucking long manga, but I'd think they could at least keep the scans the same size throughout for cohesion.
>Plus I enjoy reading actual books (Paperbacks only, I hate holding hard shit in my hand while flipping through pages. Hardbacks are gay as fuck if you actually read the books.) over reading it on a screen.

This was my initial plan (and probably still is) to get the bulk of the series for less than $100. The HG/SS, BW/BW2 and OR/AS volumes are gonna be the biggest drains since I dont think those have any sets released. >It was bought in a much smaller town for about $40 less for what we ended up paying.
Yeesh. Melee's pretty bad in price these days, having such high demand that it offsets it being one of the most common Gamecube titles. Also a game I've been alright with writing off actually owning, since it's not like anyone comes over that I'd play it with anyhow, and I'm not sure it's a $60-worthy single player experience. Of course though, timeframe on such a receipt it also relevant. maybe that was just the average a the time, especially if it was when Gamestop was actively stocking Gamecube games and other places (hopefully) having to price accordingly to compete properly. And sometimes it's also just fun to find a receipt for a place or service you hadn't known of. I remember when I got my copy of Steambot Chronicles, there was some old slip of paper inside pertaining to some online game trading circle, with however many points the game was worth in that condition and time listed on it for when a previous owner might deign to exchange it for another.
And then there's the similar factor of, if the receipt was recent, trying to figure out who was dumber: the store for pricing it at such, or the guy who previously sold it accepting only a fraction of that small amount for it. I know some people don't really know what they have and are just eager to get what they can for what they don't want, but PoR up there they must have offered the previous seller $2-3 for it since they'd priced it at $10 themselves.
>The game also was scratched. We took it to get cleaned, it worked in the store, took it home, didn't work on our Gamecube.
If you still have it, I'd recommend taking it to somewhere with a professional buffer. There's a store around where I live with one that cost them a couple thousand dollars, but if a game's not gouged, it's usually worth the try to get it working. And they'll even let you try it on one of the store machines to make sure it works before you pay $2-3 for the service. Some systems though require particular additional components than just standard DVD to work in there, and I think Gamecube minidiscs are one such, so not everywhere might have one.

So Trinitrons are a special type of screen that Sony made, basically just better technology than most screens (specifically focusing the beams in a different way to lose less energy resulting in a brighter clearer picture). The good news is Trinitrons weren't just PVMs, most Sony PVMs will be Trinitrons (if not all of them, I don't think I've seen a Sony PVM that isn't a Trinitron), but there were also consumer Trinitron sets and even computer VGA Trinitrons. This video should explain more about what a Trinitron is and why it looks so good.
>>15750365
>What CRT should I buy? and how much should I pay?
Depends on how much cash you have and how patient you are, but the real answer to this is "whatever CRT you can find that you like that fits your budget". If you just want brand and model advice like I said above look for Trinitrons from Sony.
>N64 and Genesis flashcarts
I have an Everdrive for both systems and highly recommend them. Not only can they play every game from the system no problem (and romhacks so fan translations and weird shit), but the N64 one has neat features that it can do with memory cards that make it so you only need one to store endless data (because you store it on the Everdrive's memory card), and the Genesis one can also run 32x and Master System games (master system games with the FM sound chip emulated), and work as back up ram for a Sega CD.

Again, there's different qualities for buffing machines, and depending on the make, one might get out what others might not. I obviously can't say what grade the one you're thinking of making a trip to might have, but good luck.
>That's a pretty cool story about the receipt in Steambot Chronicles.
I'd had to order it online, since it was one of those games that even when I got it never showed up in stores around here much (I don't look online for preowned games much since I stand a better chance at prices and ability to properly inspect what I'm wanting to buy locally, but not seeing any copies for months makes for an exception), and that ring was nothing I'd heard about before, at least locally. I imagine they likely shut down years before the previous owner sold it, and whether he was part of the group, I don't know.
>It seems like another one of those relics of a bygone era of gaming, something we won't able to get back, since the business/tech leapt too far forward.
While I suspect that might be part of the reason, I'd pin it more on the fact that the aftermarket's gotten all sorts of fucked, thus it probably became more apt for people to stop trading their copies around, and just sell them for actually tangible money as value's gone up.

Very easy, just needs one successful disk swap once you have everything you need. I'm just talking disc back ups, most American saturns were barely used so apart from dirt or dust would perform as if they were unused.

Some questions regarding recent pickups:
- Found a PS1/2 AV to scart cable, how do I test what output it gives?
- What happens when you insert a Mario Paint cartridge in a SNES without the mouse inserted? What video does it give?
- I have a presumably busted rumble pak, is some here in the possession of schematics or knowledge about this thing?
105294 No.15753190

You're going to get everything that SCART supports, I'd imagine, the best being RGB. No component, as that's the bastard cousin of RGB, but everything else should be there. Just check the pinout for the PlayStation multi-out connector.
Mario Paint just sits on the title screen animation loop, with the music.
Regarding the rumble pak, open it up and look for anything that is obviously not right. Broken wires, corroded copper, broken components. Electronics isn't really arcane sorcery until you start creating stuff from the ground up, having to calculate tau values for capacitor discharges at the microfarad level.

That the PS3 set that includes every major game in the series at the time? If so, keep in mind that for MGS1 it only had a voucher for the PSN version, and unless you're lucky, it's probably been used already, if it's even still in there to begin with.

If it's still in good shape, I guess that's not real bad, given those were a limited amount made. Still only going to have the first game in it though, and personally, until it can be ascertained that parts III and IV aren't fucked, assuming they even come over here, it's not a (sub)series I'd get into myself.

Lately i've been buying nothing but psp and x360 games after acquiring both consoles in pristine condition and with a few accessories for $60 off a nephew who no longer wanted them fucker got a ps4 and a switch for his birthday, so he's getting rid of his old stuff and offered both consoles to me for the price of a new game, i spent my childhood and teenager years with a SNES and 5 games for it yoshi's island, joe and mac, act raiser, megaman x and megaman x3, a modchipped PS1 and a PS2 with FMCB, so buying physical copies of games i like after pirating them most of my life feels great and it's not even a dent in my wallet considering how cheap these games are by now, i can go to any vidya store/pawnshop/cex with $10 and walk out with at least 3 games, i shit you not.

I tried to repair my old 3DS by lightly soaking the R button in alcohol please don't ask, and no i wasn't drunk or in drugs, i despise that shit, and i fucked up the screen, i left it to dry in a bowl of rice for a week and the screen has mostly gone back to normal, now there's only a line in the middle of the lower screen, it's not noticeable when playing games so i couldn't care less, the R button remains fucked though so all i can play on it is gba/ds/3ds pokemon and nes/snes games, and at this point it's not worth taking it to some place to get it fixed, i'd rather buy another one once they drop to 50 dollars.
I put custom firmware on my psp, it came with a 8gb memory stick and the whole process was so absurdly easy even a blind retard could have done it, now i'm enjoying castlevania symphony of the night, parasite eve 2 and yugioh forbidden memories on my bed using headphones, i haven't actually started any psp game on it, the main draw for me was ps1 emulation.
Lastly i learned that the ps2 homebrew scene has drastically improved since the last time i bothered with it (2010 i think), the methods i was using to load PS2 games were ancient, so i spent a couple hours updating all my programs, transferring saves/games and formatting the HDD, turns out you can launch PS1 games from the HDD with OPL now, games don't need to be named in a certain way to be recognized ape escape 3 for example needed to be named "SCUS_97501.Ape Escape 3.iso" and i can store ps1/ps2 saves on the HDD so the memory card pretty much is a glorified usb stick now, i no longer have to swap them whenever i play certain games like star ocean 3, whose battle trophies and saves occupy a whole 5mb of the 8mb available, i dedicated a memory card to that game.

That's the issue with games with online: eventually that shit goes down, and depending on the game, and even your own personal surroundings, what's left afterward might not be worth it. Even just single player focused games can wind up feeling like an incomplete experience if there was an online component that gave something of interest (such as Gravity Rush 2; they killed that online pretty fucking fast). And if you're wanting to CFW your system, it obviously can make even utilizing what's still got online a risk.

I haven't posted in the previous threads but I posted in one before. I have been trying to amass a collection of Xbox 360 games because someone has to do it. I have been taking my time playing each game I get but my most recent pick ups were from the bargain bin at my local JewStop. I always make sure to get the lowest price anyway since I already have a spreadsheet set up to get the games I actually want to get at the best price possible. If anything Amazon and eBay help out, eBay especially with the two for one deals some sellers do saves me money. When you have an estimated $530 worth of games to collect you can use any penny pinching possible, ironic since I am buying from JewStop, but hey hobbies are hobbies. 2nd pic related, a snippet of the list.
Anyways, I picked up Darksiders II, Prototype, Skate 3 and Gun for my 360 collection. I am probably going to get Lollipop Chainsaw, EDF 2017, and Ace Combat 6 for my next batch of games. There is that one crazy game Onechanbara Samurai Squad that might be next up as well.

I am considering investing in an actual PC because for the past decade and a half I have been at the mercy of my Macbook Pro and Alienware M14xR2 laptop and it's killing me. Well at least for the latter I can run games before 2015 so not all is lost, it's not like anything major and necessary has come out in the past few years. But still, I have pcpartpicker and friends helping out with the process so it shouldn't be so hard to get one, it's just the process leading up to it.
I am also considering if it's worth it to get this secondhand Gamecube with a shitty disc reader working again so I don't have to resort to my Wii, but then again I am hesitant because of the Wii being able to play all the Gamecube games. I guess it is more of a dilemma of aesthetic than it is of functionality. >Consider researching CFW for each, and what models if not all at this point can utilize it properly.
I already read up on that, for permanent CFW i want either a fat ps3 or a 25XX or earlier slim PS3, and one of the older Wii that has gamecube ports, however i am strongly considering just buying legit games for those consoles, like i told you earlier the games are insanely cheap by now and i like to have them for display in a shelf, plus i am only getting a couple of titles for wii, pretty much just madworld, muramasa, monster hunter tri, the first mario galaxy and the no more heroes games PS3 i am grabbing only the worthwhile exclusives because the 360 has me covered with the multiplatforms
>I still haven't seen a source on that, or that there's a newer version of OPL than 0.9.3. I do know the PS2 has some variant of POPS as homebrew, but that's emulation, not loading
What i meant is that you can have them on OPL alongside PS2 games and launch them from there instead of using ulaunch elf and searching for the elf file or emulating with ps2psxp, you still need popsloader, it's convenient but irrelevant now that i have a PSP.
>What the fuck? How does saves plus what I assume is a simple yes/no toggle of trophy data take that much space? I remember ragging on a friend years back for buying a memory card for every Gamecube game he had, yet apparently fans of SO3 have a valid reason to have an exclusive card?
Those battle trophies are pretty much prototype achievements/trophies, there's 250 and you unlock them for doing random shit like dealing exact amounts of damage or beating bosses with certain characters using only normal attacks, that's why they take up so much space, and SO3 is an extremely long game with multiple difficulties so i have saves in just about every save point because getting stuck in certain parts of the game in 4D difficulty means you might as well reload an earlier save and synthesize a new weapon/synth orichalcum to your weapons for an ATK boost, as you legitimately can't grind due to common enemies being too strong.

FFXIII trilogy went BC last week and they went from $2 a piece to $10 on goystop, AC6 is anywhere from $5 to $20 so imagine just how much more expensive it's gonna be.

Hmm… Even a cheapass digital multimeter you can get in an auto parts store will have a continuity tester mode, so you can see if a switch is working using that. What you may have to do is take it apart and do the basics, like check for damaged or disconnected bits. From there, repairs should be straightforward. If nothing is visibly damaged, it could be crud blocking the connection, and contact cleaner spray should be able to sort that out quickly. IIRC, I used to use a regular controller for the foot petal, and use my toe (in socks, natch) to press the button.

Great support, hardware save states (which for the password heavy systems like NES is a god send), and playing the prototypes and rom hacks is amazing. You'll only need about 600mb of storage to fit the whole NES library.

If you have the scratch, I also recommend the Mega Everdrive. It functions as a Sega CD memory cartridge, lets you pick which Sega CD BIOS you want to use, and works with 32X, Genesis (duh), and Master System (have to disconnect at least the 32X, if not also the Sega CD due to memory addressing issues) games. It's your one-stop Sega shop. I have the Super Everdrive, too, but it's clearly inferior to the SD2SNES, as the most fancy stuff it can run is Mario Kart if you opt for the DSP chip or cannibalize one from Ballz 3D. The Turbo Everdrive is essential, because FUCK collecting HuCards at the retarded prices they have now, but the TG16 library is pretty meh without CD games, and for that, the Super SD System 3 does the job of the Everdrive AND the Turbo CD AND the CD cards.
The newest iteration of the Mega Everdrive now supports FM sound without hardware mods, if you have an affinity for the system. No opinion on the portable Everdrives for the GG, GB, and GBA, but I suppose if you love a game system, you have to have a good flash cart for it.

With the Wii, you can hack it and run Gamecube games via loader from USB. That is assuming a backwards compatible model, anyhow.
> By the way how is that Playstation 2 emulator, PCSX right?
PCSX2, and to my knowledge it's finicky. Which isn't to say it doesn't work, but rather is not "one size fits all" and requires trying to find the right settings on a game-by-game basis. Some games also might still not work. I have a fat PS2 myself with an HDD to load off of, which can also be a workaround if the games you'd like to play without buying aren't PCSX2 friendly. The PCSX2 wiki should list playability statuses and possible workarounds for bugs, but keep in mind some pages may not have been edited for a while. OPL and HDL both have their own compatibility sites as PS2 loader applications, and if you go that route, be sure to use up-to-date versions.
>>15756773
>I think the tiny cases and umd's are cute
Not really a valid plus against the loading issue. I'd still recommend CFWing your system if you haven't already. Expand the utility it can give you and what not.
>however i am strongly considering just buying legit games for those consoles, like i told you earlier the games are insanely cheap by now
PS3 and Wii, yeah, for the most part. Some outliers here and there, more-so for the Wii, but if you're also looking for Gamecube games, not so much. Worthwhile library's smaller than most systems, but it doesn't really feel great having to drop $30+ each on super common must plays compared to those on the PS2 or Xbox might be $12 or lower each. I'll admit though that at least the Metroid Primes and Viewtiful Joes are still pretty reasonable, but if you haven't gotten somewhat into Gamecube before the prices went up, and/or are incredibly patient, I'd just recommend pirating and using Dolphin or Nintendont or something.
Huh. So, are there like a trophy list for not only each parameter to be met, but also each difficulty as well? I guess I can see those adding to the save file size a good bit.

Might still check some secondhand shops around here since money saved is money saved. Plus, I've got a birthday and Christmas coming up, and since my parents do want to get stuff as gifts but never know what I like or already have, it becomes a bit of a "gift yourself" thing. Still, in my experiences, just before and after Christmas is better for stuff being in stock that usually isn't, what with people both trading in stuff they might otherwise not to afford gifts, and then subsequent take backs of unwanted gifts.

I had a large collection of NES, SNES, N64 and several other consoles that I amassed when they were cheap around 2007-2012 and I sold them all to a local game shop when I really needed the money and had no job and they totally fucked me over. Gave me maybe 300 dollars for a collection of games worth a grand. Every.Single.Time. I see one of these threads on 4chan or here it brings back the pain. I will never be able to rebuild that collection because retro gaming is so fucking expensive now. Games that picked up for between 5-20 dollars in 2008-2009 are now 40 dollars or more. You have extremely common games like a link to the past selling at game shops for 30$ which is fucking ridiculous. It hurts.

To be honest, that was your own doing, and selling through brick and mortar will always give a mere percentage of what it's worth a the time, even less if you want cash and not credit (as it sounds like you did). Still, if at the time they weren't going for very much, I don't think you could be faulted for believing they'd stay at those prices. Hindsight is 20/20, and a bitch.
>You have extremely common games like a link to the past selling at game shops for 30$ which is fucking ridiculous.
Yeah, and Nintendo's probably been the worst effected. SNES and Gamecube especially, though my experience is more with the latter (I can't even justify getting an SNES, everything I'd like is absurdly priced or didn't come out here). Got a major, popular Nintendo franchise logo on it? Automatic $30+ despite being common as shit. Is it Melee? Immediate $60+ despite having a 70% attach rate or so. Cult classic? Even just being on the Gamecube? Often double what it is on other systems. And if it's actually rare, decent, and has something of an audience? Can be stupid amounts of money. And then there's the Atlus tax on top of it all for the likes of Cubivore and Go Go Hypergrind (the latter of which also has what might as well be the furfag tax). There's a handful of worthwhile games that have some immunity, like Metroid Prime 1 and 2, Geist, Crystal Chronicles for instance, but unless you're looking in the right places, usually it's at least $25-30 for anything worth playing. And the library itself started shooting up pretty fast after Gamestop stopped stocking for it, which I attribute to artificial scarcity caused by Gamestop doing their best to drive all their competition under, thus when they stopped stocking for it, there's that fewer brick and mortars that did. At the same time though, while PS2 (for the sake of comparison) has a growing number of badly priced games, overall it's nothing like what's happened with the Gamecube.

No sweat, flash carts are the way to go. I've lost everything I had multiple times, and consoles aren't murderously expensive, for the most part. Genesis, Sega CD, Mega Everdrive. NES, Everdrive N8. Also what >>15760264 says. The actual consoles themselves aren't nearly as much as the libraries are, and flash carts allow for playing the games on the actual system. That said, depending on what chips are present (considering how systems like the SNES had a variety), cost for a cart can vary into highish amounts, but when some individual games are $200+ all on their own, a flash cart that should let you play most of the system at a similar price starts looking like less a problem.

Well flash carts pretty much negate the need for buying games (at least for what chips a given one covers), so that would probably just leave the system, cost of the flash cart, and memory, if you need your own storage in it. Beyond that though, probably something like the Gameboy if you count handhelds, but otherwise the PS1's not horribly expensive on average where I live (though these days I don't see that many pricing fuckups compared to the past), but it does depend on how deep you plan to dig into it, or what games/series you like.

You posted a Genesis so just get a Genesis, an everdrive, and a CRT set and boom, you're in business. I mean it depends on what games you really want to play and what systems matter to you, because the truth is pretty much every system has some sort of piracy solution (though some are more expensive than others, for example an N64 Everdrive is considerably more expensive than say a GBA or NES Everdrive).
>Why do you suggest a Genesis?
1) Lots of good games, more so if you like SEGA specifically which by your picture I assume
2) Backwards compatible with Master System games which the Everdrive can take advantage of
3) Can be upgraded later with a Sega CD for even more games (Sega CDs accept burned games because it was made when having a CD burner was insanely expensive).
4) Even the rarest one (a Model 1 "High Definition Graphics" unit, so called because that's written across the circle around the cartridge port) is only $40, and trust me you can get them for a lot cheaper than that.

Model 1 has a better soundchip, with specifically the "High Definition Graphics" units having the best. Trick is they only output mono through their back port so you'll need to get a patch cable to wire the stereo that comes out of the front audio jack. Honestly so long as you get a Model 1 it will probably sound fine, it was only Model 2's that ended up getting shitty sound chips.

Sega consoles are usually cheap and have great games that are also cheap. I'd go with the Genesis as the only unfortunately over-priced Sega system is one of the best systems ever, the Sega Saturn.

yeah, the best sound quality. The thing is however there's several model 1 revisions. The identifier for the models you would want are those which have "high definition graphics" written above the cartridge port. There's additional revisions which come down to identifying the FCC ID and the earliest revisions which meets all the previously stated requirements is the one with the long FCC ID - these are launch models which have no "licensed by Sega" splash screen.
Only concession you have to make is to get a 3.5mm to RCA stereo cable to get proper stereo sound.

>metal slug anthology, i've heard this one is rare because few copies were made and this is the most expensive one
Usually PSP versions of PS2/Wii multiplats tend to not be as easy to find (I think there's similar case with Phantom Brave), and I think I've heard that the PSP version of Metal Slug Anthology has some bonuses; unlockable art, or something. That said, being a portable can hamper multiplayer if it's something you care about. Checking a cover scan, it would seem that unlike some ports, MSA PSP does not cut the co-op, but at the same times there's a difference between just needing an extra controller and needing a second PSP and copy of them game (unless it's a case of streaming data from system to the other, the way some DS games were).
>plus the cover art has this holographic film over it and is reversible
Looking at it on TCP, that is an inlay, not an intended reversible cover. Think tray card art. Still nice to see when a copy opted to go the extra mile, considering how readily most abandoned doing so after sixth gen's DVD style cases meant they no longer had to.
>they also had a CiB copy of pokemon black my favorite pokeman game solely because of touko's ass but they were asking $80 for it
How in the fuck? That's like $20 complete on an average day where I live. What sort of place was asking that retarded a price for a preowned common DS game.
