From what I remember. The main movement of grinding is necessary but finicky. It threw a lot of enemies at you toward the end and if you were on the ground while this happened, you were a sitting duck to attacks and probably won't be able to dodge effectively. The grinding acted as a temporary shield because of the speed boost it provides compared to walking but you have areas where it doesn't have a lot of grinding surface to move across, so you you sometimes move away from the target you're focusing on. You have to manually go back and forth a lot on the same rail to focus on one enemy or just let yourself be grinded around in a circles to fight. Interesting idea but it certainly wasn't a smooth combat experience in some parts.
The dialogue seems to match the intent the developers were going for which is a good or bad thing depending of what you expect from it. I certainly didn't like it when it first came out and I expect it would be much worse if I were to replay it and hear the dialogue again. Good in that it's on PC so it can be preserved but now it's gone from the exclusive games of xbone that people usually associate Sunset Overdrive for being as. What other exclusives does xbone even have left?

Oddly enough, I had never even heard of this game before I saw it on the Steam front page.
While some of the gameplay stuff gave me a few JSR vibes, from the trailer and screenshots I hated everything about the aesthetics, character design, etc. Everything is extremely derivative and reeks of CY lolsorandum wackiness. Also feels like they sorted of tried to emulate the Dead Rising atmosphere without actually realizing what made it compelling.

There's an expectation that the player move around in a slick motion while killing enemies to boost powers to further kill enemies but aiming with a controller while moving is not a good combination, this game would benefit significantly with gyro aim, and a rethink of combat in general would be great, jumping on enemies is not an option, melee combat is pretty weak, some of the weapons are legitimately useless and need a rethink. There's also the core issue of mixing things up, it's quite easy to bounce on a small group of objects or grind back and forth on the same rail because some enemies have too much health for their own good, or enemies don't move around enough, this inherently goes against the games desire for slick movement.

Overall the game is actually pretty decent and a sequel that either rethinks it's open world or moves away from the open world and rethinks the combat could actually be good.

Microsoft is desperate for actual crossbuy/gamepass games to justify their pathetic Windows store which is currently stocked with low-effort mobile tier shovelware. Microsoft bent over backwards to encourage their Xbox userbase to upgrade to the PC so they could have an "ecosystem" to rival Apple and Android - but then forgot to actually put games and software on the store, or make a functional storefront - so for all their "efforts", all it really amounted to was baiting users away from Xbox onto the PC where they promptly fucked off to Steam. And since Insomniac was porting the game to the PC anyhow, they probably figured they'd also put it on a platform where it might actually make a sale. Pretty much all non-first party "Xbox One exclusives" end up on Steam. Ryse, Ori, Cuphead, Quantum Break, etc.
