Bubsy is trash for the first three games, sure, but not for the lack of trying.
1 was over-animated, had a misguided physics engine, horrible puns, but it was somewhat pretty for its time. They tried with the game design, but it was still kusoge-quality.
2 fixed some stuff like the bonkers game design, hell i even liked it as a kid who knew no better despite hating first one, but was it still average, unremarkable and barely passable.
3 tried to pioneer 3d, but was an utter trainwreck, and halfways through development the team saw super mario 64 and were demotivated. they redeemed themselves later with syphon filter but that's another story.
there's a canned cartoon and lynx game based on merch, and based on what leaked the world is all better off for it since they were going the shitty nineties game-to-cartoon then game-to-cartoon-to-mediocre-game adaptation route.
BUT
The reboot (not the flash fanhategame that purely lives off meme factor) was actually a decent platformer, despite all reasons to expect otherwise. It was by the Giana Sisters developers, only prettier, and considering that series has bland character design but decent gameplay while Bubsy traditonally had the opposite problem, that was a good combination.
Its big problem is the very short play length (15 small levels and 3 bosses, just 1 hour of playtime) that doesn't match the price. Shame that most reviewers went with "lol another bubsy why does it exist"
They put in some effort in there and i'm happy for the developers that they could do a sequel, but they still say this one will have 3 bosses (but also 100 levels) which is concerning.
Yet another case of a series that shits the bed so badly any somewhat decent sequel that comes is overshadowed by that bad word of mouth, and in the case of bubsy it's very justified. Like Mummy Demastered (shit movie), Mighty Gunvolt Burst (sequel to Mighty No. 9), Mega Man Star Force 3 (after 2) and Battle Network 6 (after 4)…

Either way there is no reason to support the PRC at all and the nationalists should have won the civil war to begin with.
