I knew one that had what I'd consider above average taste, for a girl anyhow, courtesy of exposure to various series by her older brothers when she was younger and they still lived together. Zelda being obligatory, but also the likes of Metroid (all the way back to the NES one, and pure hatred for Other M), Donkey Kong Country, Resident Evil (classic era and those wii rail shooters), Metal Gear, Oddworld, MediEvil, Brave Fencer Musashi, .hack still coming to mind. Whole drawers of cased disc based games, tackle boxes of cartridges, the specifics of what all was in there I don't remember. Honestly better taste than I had at the time in vidya, and whom knowing helped me stop being a WoWfaggot and start giving some other, non-MMO games a go again. Also liked anime and manga, and had zero problems with fanservice. Was generally pleasant to be around, could carry a reasonably intelligent conversation on topics she enjoyed, and fucking loathed the stigma attention whore "grill gamers" gave her sort by association. She would rather be treated as one would another guy, and considered herself a tomboy (beyond media interests, she also liked hiking, camping, fishing, and whatnot with her father). I don't remember any fujoshit or lesbo tendencies from her either. However, a mutual friend (who in retrospect had exceedingly shit taste) eventually introduced her to Assassin's Creed, and all that remotely decent taste went down the toilet as it proceeded to consume her interests and free time, becoming practically the only games she really wanted to play. This was at the very least before AssCreed III was even out, but it was still quite sad to see happen looking back; soon enough afterward we lost all contact, and from what I heard from others, she later moved out of state anyhow. I would imagine she stuck with the series to the shitshow it's become, she was that much of an addict to it, and I wouldn't be shocked if in the years between she bought into the SJW/commie shit either, having always wanted to go to college (and for digital art, at that) but not being able to for the duration I knew her between her family not being able to afford it and no scholarships. If she did, it would have been smack in the period that the SJW agenda therein was ramping up into outright blatancy.
Other one that comes to mind having been an employee at a convenience store around here; the topics of vidya and anime somehow came up one night I was there, her taste in both surprisingly wasn't trash, and thus we started trading recommendations for things to play or watch when I'd go there for gas or a snack. That said, I made sure never to hold other customers up in doing so, though being night shift hours, there usually weren't that many present anyhow. I think she either quit or got moved to another location, as I haven't seen her in quite a while, and that was the only point of contact we had.

You might be on to something. I wouldn't consider the first I mentioned goth, but she did have a preference for chained wallets and I want to say chokers (if memory serves) and Oddworld and Metroid were close to shrine-worthy for them, though I don't think they went quite that far with their devotion. My little sister used to be into games a lot.
When we were younger I had to take care of her a lot, because both our parents were gone father ran off after my mother got pregnant with my sister, mother was at work, and instead of taking her out into the hell they call Ghetto, we stayed at home and played vidya on our crappy home PC. Since that was pretty much everything we two could do inside, we would spend every afternoon playing vidya together. We had some Sims households that were 8 generations old. Eventually I grew up a bit more and started to play shooters, and because I didn't want to expose her to stuff like that I started to work at an internet cafe after school so I could buy her a PC of her own.
It was slow going, because our mother didn't allow me to work more than two days every week so my grades wouldn't suffer.
I soon realized that I wouldn't be able to afford a PC at this rate, and the cafe was getting very little business anyways. Then it shut down, and the owner allowed me to take some old parts in exchange for helping him haul the rest to a buyer.
So I took the money I earned from my job to buy a screen, and assembled the parts I was given into a PC. She was very grateful and we played a lot of LAN games. Eventually she grew out of playing games with her brother and started to hang out with some of the girls from her class. Some of them were all right.
After I finished high-school I got a job as a construction worker and started to bring back money. I bought her everything she needed, and because she was always listening to music while doing homework, I decided to save my money and buy her a first generation iPod. It didn't take me too long to save up, because I was still living with my mom and sister, and I could do a lot of overtime. When I came home with it one day she said she would take good care of it.
It was stolen from her at school within a week. She stopped hanging out with anyone from school.
When she finished too we couldn't afford to send her to college (my grades were too bad anyways, so I didn't bother trying), but because she could use a computer and type very fast she got a job as a secretary. She brought back far more than I did, and eventually the company she worked for relocated. When she left she took the old PC I had gotten for her with her.
I am not sure if she still plays games, but it wouldn't surprise me.
