ARMA 2 was the best because of the massive community support, ARMA 3 is slowly catching up as official updates are released and mods are patched to suit.

I would say with the current ARMA build (released yesterday) when all the good mods fully support the new features it'll take the title of best ARMA.

>also have AT rockets in case the mines don't destroy all the tanks

>after all the mines are set, sergeant tells me to grab a rocket launcher and hide in a bush by the road

>we're sat in the bush for about two or three minutes, the first UAZ rolls by and doesn't see us

>the tanks follow close behind it, only two are destroyed by the mines and the rest are unharmed (we set six mines)

>sergeant tells me to take out the rest with AT rockets

>destroy one, the rest start heading down the road to the town I was supposed to defend

>sergeant radios for an M113 to pick us up

>fire rocket at another tank

>second tank I hit is merely disabled, the crew hops out and shoots my sergeant to death

>I destroy the tank and kill it's crew with another rocket

>M113 shows up and it's driver shouts over the radio for me to get in, but a loose Soviet tank destroys it before he can finish his sentence

>all by myself now

>instead of restarting, decide to walk to the town and destroy as many Soviets as I can

>manage to destroy one more Soviet tank before being shot to death by infantry

It turns out, boarding that M113 was the only way I could complete the mission. For some reason, it's actually quite fun to fuck up in this game. It's as if as I screw things up, things play out as they actually would in real life. Bad situations become worse ones.

All my favorite missions have been massive fuckups we somehow recovered or fled .

My favorite to date was:

>taking BTR convoy to an airfield to secure it

>300m into a 1500m drive get ambushed by DShK technicals

>glorious 12.7 x 108mm shreds armor killing 5 of the 7 in the back of a BTR-60 with me

>other survivor and I flee into the bush

>take heavy infantry contact for ~300m until we lose them

>contact 1-1

>find out there are 4 more survivors from another BTR pinned down back at the road

>go to try and break them out

>30 minutes of brutal fighting later we capture a technical and extract with the one guy we managed to rescue

Funny thing is the mission maker didn't know DShK's would punch through a BTR and thought it would be a minor hurdle on the way to the real objective.

Wouldn't surprise me, that's why Steel Beasts PE hasn't been cracked, need the dongle to play. I imagine flight sims will be doing this soon, too, since they're a niche market with generally high-quality content it's not hard to imagine them requiring a dongle to stop people from pirating an 80-120 dollar game.
