From what I've heard, you're not missing out on much.
I wouldn't know much about 2's Hero Mode because I never played it, but in 1 basically enemy octopuses (Octarians) stole the Great Zapfish, a power source for the squids, and a veteran of an old war veteran (Cap'n Cuttlefish) designates you (Agent 3) as a secret agent to go get it back (Agents 1 and 2 are the Squid Sisters, pop idols in the city and Cuttlefish's granddaughters) . I think 2's original story mode ties in with the previous game only as far as both the Zapfish being stolen again along with Agent 1 missing, Agent 3 being out on some venture with Cap'n Cuttlefish, and you being a newly appointed agent 4 to go after the Octarians again.
As far as actual gameplay and specific gamemodes go, you pretty much have to go with the flow and git gud

Upon further review I can say that the rankings of all the weapons I actually like and use make sense to me. Everything in Rank X makes sense to me, except the Brella.
The further you go down the list, the less things seem to make sense. The main question I have is, why are so many tiers are even needed? I get that we have close to 100 weapons at this point, but I don't see the need to split them into this many tiers. What's the difference between A and A'? What makes Neo-Sploosh so shitty it gets its own tier?
I'd also be far more interested in seeing actual usage percentages broken down by gamemode (or even map) than some tier-wank without any explanation for the decisions.

Someone please explain this to me. As much as I've tried to use them, they seem like shit. They've got short range, inconsistent damage, an unnecessarily long delay before user can regenerate ink after shooting, etc. The shield can be decent for Tower Control but I've had much better luck with the Undercover Brella.
Some more observations. Look at the huge disparity between the Custom Jet Squelcher and the default; from S+ to B. I'm also surprised the Flingzas aren't lower, and that Dynamos are so high. Japs must be living in the past if they think the Dynamos in Splat2n are even comparable to how they were in 1 after all the nerfs.

The only time I felt like a Brella outshone anything was when I kept losing 1v1s while using the Undercover. They could break my shield easy and out-damage or stall me.
I've been encountering Dynamos in X Splat Zones and they aren't completely useless. They're a really odd support weapon that can ink a long straight line from out of reach and one-shot inkjets from a relatively safe distance.
Oh wait that sounds almost exactly like a charger. I think I'd rather have one of those.

The main problem with lists like these is that there's no cold hard numbers to go by, it's all arbitrary. There aren't any comprehensive sources of statistics from multiplayer matches as far as I know, so all we have to go by are anecdotes such as "fuck dualie squelchers they're fucking broken". Also, a single tier list is too general, as Turf War has a different focus from, say, Salmon Run or Clam Shitz.
A rough but more accurate way of making tier lists for each gamemode is by taking data on weapons used by winning/losing teams in a match to make an average "score" we can use to measure one weapon against another. It would work like this: If a player on the winning team of a match used weapon X, add 1. If a player on the losing team used X, add 0. For example, from 20 matches you get that in 14 of those matches a Carbon Roller was used by one player on the winning team, and in the other six a Carbon Roller was used by one player on the losing team. The Carbon Roller would then have a tentative score of 14/20 = 0.70. Having a weapon on the losing side and the winning side would have the same effect as adding a value of .5.
The idea is that once we have enough data and each weapon has gone against every other weapon enough times, the scores will hover around a certain number and they can all be compared to each other. 0.5 would represent middle-of-the-run or mid tier weapons, and greater/lesser numbers would mean a higher/lower tier weapon. 0 and 1 would be absolutes: 0 would mean competitively unrealistic and 1 would mean broken.
The main problem with this approach is the whole ad hoc fallacy: just because a score is 1 doesn't mean the weapon's broken, it could just mean a select few are really good at the weapon and they are always being put up against shitters. One of the only ways to offset this is by trying to get an equal amount of good and bad players using a weapon for the data.

It depends on the map. Spawning Grounds and Salmonid Smokeyard both have good spots to abuse ledges, and are open enough to do so in a place that won't get your teammates killed. But because Lost Outpost is cramped and mostly flat near the basket, the wall is the best place to lure them. This way you can keep them from moving unpredictably and away from well-traveled areas.

It wasn't until recently that shit hit the fan and got leaked, and he and a friend of his ("Omega the Squid Man") started spazzing out on the discord groups they tended to hang out on. They talked about how they were the ones who made the Splatoon community, and how this whole pedophilia roleplay was just lies made up by trolls. He deleted his account after a massive backlash. A whole bunch of other drama happened alongside it, such as animators fighting each other and "quitting" Youtube. The latest gem involved some guy revealing that Ellie Godelia had 10 "online boyfriends" and tried to fake her own death ("help im choking on dick"). Things seemed to have cooled down a little by now, but I haven't really looked closely.

Because the smallfry jump at you on the wall, and have been doing so for months, it's not an optimal strategy anymore. You're a sitting duck on the wall now. It's a better strategy to have the entire team take on the grillers as fast as possible. What happens if two grillers are on the field? You make it a 3 vs. 2 fight. If you lose even a single teammate, it escalates immediately, which is what happened in your video. You had the roller, and you should have been clearing the smallfries with it.

Nothing in your video says you're 400+ profreshional. I consistently am at 400 starting, and my group, which purposely hamstrings itself for easier games, always starts at quota 17+. You likely had a 13 or 14 quota at wave 1. I haven't seen numbers that low since the update to maintain pay grade in profreshional.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand the explosher. The math is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the shots will go over a typical player's head. There's also Cuttlefish's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Octo Valley literature, for instance. The squids understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly aim and splat the shit out of the filthy Octoling infidels, it says something deep about LIFE. When you finally hit S+, you're technically at S+ 'zero', denoted by a tiny number next to it.
From here, ranking up and down works the same as before; if you successfully fill the meter, you upgrade to S+ 1, then S+ 2, and so on. The maximum rank used to be S+ 50.

Rank X's bottom-tier is 1900-2000 power (sub2000 gets booted at month-end, sub1900 gets booted immediately if they lose), and the highest scores I've seen so far (from cheaters, presumably) were in the 2700s. You will be matched against players who are within 500 points of your X power give or take, which means if you're at about 2200-2300, you can effectively play against the best and the worst in Rank X. Seems like a stupidly wide allowance in my opinion, since 500~ spans nearly the whole system from top to bottom. Only thing it does is keep the losers away from the cheaters.
Back in March after Rank X was announced, Nintendo released some stats on how much of the active playerbase was in each rank. I think it's safe to assume the percentage of active players in Rank X is higher than 1% by now, but not by much.

The Nautilus can store its charge (for around 5 seconds, even a partial charge), can recharge while firing, and has little impact on your movement speed. It also seems to have only slightly worse charge speed and range compared the Heavy Splatling. In other words, how can the Heavy really compete? The only major advantage I see is that the Heavy lasts longer on a full charge but again, it can't recharge mid-fire.

This is splatoon. There's this thing called ground you have to ink to gain a tactical advantage, if it's not flat out the objective. Often it's a good idea to tnk off an enemies escape before you go for them.
In addition, since ink saver -both main and sub- has diminishing returns you have to combine those to keep shooting after using your sub.

In general yeah, it's shit shoot the ground, no more enemy ink but there's an argument for it on brushes when they make sharp turns and step into enemy ink for a moment.

Ink resistance's usefulness is dependent on the weapon. Every shooter type weapon has a % chance to drop ink under the user's feet, and weapons with long range / low fire rate typically have a low chance of this happening. So what are your guys game plan usually?
I'm an Inkbrush main so I usually just put 100% of my effort and heart into making sure that the enemy is pissed off, stressed, anxious, and just in general not being able to focus on what they're supposed to be doing.
I don't really get confrontational either. Usually I wrap around the block if I see someone and splat them from behind. Then I Squidbag and go booyah over and over so they get pissed. I usually initiate this by going into their turf and inking as much as I can. If I get cornered somehow and enemy ink is all around me I can literally just hold the inkbrush down and run away. The only exception is when another inkbrush is facing off against me. Then pic related happens because It's more risky to run away from another inkbrush so you might as well try taking them out with you.
That's about it aside from just scouting and blocking different routes. What about you guys?
