Pretty much this–nintendo goes out of it's way to cultivate and maintain the family friendly image, and thus appears "safe" for the soyboys, neurotic incels, trannys, and hamplanet cat ladies to develop an interest in.
As for splatoon specifically, it's very similar to sonic and mlp:
1) Bland, open world for anyone to cram their garbage OC into and not clash with muh cannnnon.
2) Very generic characters that are unified by a gimmick rather than a design philosophy (tentacle hair), and thus any scribble will pass so long as that gimmick is maintained.
3) Thought-policing within the fandom. In sonic and mlp any artist who says something unpopular is raked over the coals, and in splatoon someone who posts something that isn't tranny positive or that kids should all be faggots in the miiverse mark II gets deleted. Remember, NoA is infested with sjws to the point of creating awful localization scripts to give false legitimacy to their cult.
It's kind of funny that splatoon has the rainbow parasites when the first splatfest after the octo expansion was about a race war. The game's balance is still fucking awful though, anything that isn't a dualie is shit.
