Why is it that a blender would have seemingly sealed the fate of agent Octo and Cap'n Cuttlefish? The game shows they're made of ink or some other liquid (can compress entire body to hide in ink and all) so it's not like a blender would have done anything water couldn't. Tenta-missiles are easy to spam (any time there are enemies alive is a viable time to activate it with all the buffs it's gotten), don't require a commitment like baller, inkjet, or stingray, and are a ghetto echolocator. You can get a lot of them off during a match at very little risk to yourself. It's constant extra pressure for the enemies to deal with. It's not as good at getting kills as inkjet, but it costs so much less to activate that the tradeoff is more than worth it.

There's plenty more weapons where those came from. Keep playing the game and try new weapons as they come along. You'll unlock new weapons up until level 30 or so.

3. Turf War teaches you the fundamentals of the game. Most importantly, coverage is king. It means more mobility options for you and less for the enemy. If nobody on your team is contributing to coverage, then you should.
4. Don't super jump to allies unless you're absolutely certain it's safe. A lot of poor players will blindly jump, only to be splatted immediately afterward.
5. It's recommended to use motion controls. We have some good stick players around here, but they're an anomaly. You're maximum potential is higher with motion controls. If you're not using them already, switch over as soon as possible.
6. Splattershot Jr. is the best weapon in the game. fite me
7. Don't worry about gear abilities just yet. Grind out abilities on all of your gear for use later. You'll either re-roll, scrub, or modify gear later, and it's in your best interest to have gear ready to go for this.
8. Looking fresh trumps gear abilities.
9. Don't overextend. Pushing forward without knowing your surroundings will get you splatted. If you're unsure of yourself, hang back and see how the fight is going before making your move.
10. Everybody knows about swimming through curling bomb ink. It's not clever.
11. Splats aren't everything. While keeping the enemy under control is important, there's always a need for somebody to fulfill the objective. Not a lot of people like to ride the tower, run clams, or carry the rainmaker. Be the guy that does.
12. Stop into the Mumble. We have people with 1000+ hours in Splatoon 1 and 500+ hours and up in Splatoon 2. We'll do private matches, show you how to play Salmon Run properly, run tests, do some labbing, recon maps with you, shit talk, and shitpost. If you're interested, be sure to let somebody in the thread know. We have to give you proper authorization due to a raid a while ago.

Terrible excuse. I played Doom and Wolf3D where you aim with the keyboard, Blood, Duke3D, and Counterstrike, aiming with the mouse, and Goldeneye, where you have this awkward auto aim to compensate for aiming with a loose control stick. Splatoon was designed with motion controls in mind, and it works quite well. Hell, I played 50 hours of Splatoon 1 with stick controls, only to move to Splatoon 2 with motion controls, and then realize the mistake I made before. It's night and day. Like I've said before, we have a pair of stick control users who are quite good at the game, but they're roller users. You lose massive versatility from not using motion controls. The inability to make jump shots with bombs using stick controls is enough of an argument for me to use motion controls.

My niece bought this with her birthday money and took decent care of it (didn't throw, slam, spill water on it etc.). It may be one of the worst controllers I've used in years, like sub PS1/N64 Madcatz tier. Everything feels cheap, the buttons are too stiff, the D-pad is mushy and awful, the plastic creaks if you apply any pressure to it, and the sticks are the worst part. They felt really chintzy in a way only the chinese can produce. A month and a half after she got it my niece started complaining about the left stick having weird little hiccups, two weeks after that it was broken. I checked it in-game, when I push forward her Inkling moves forward but randomly turns around or just stops (in the video I'm holding the left stick within the 11 to 1o'clock position the entire time) this makes games completely unplayable. This thing is trash don't buy it.
If you need an inexpensive gamepad maybe try the Hori pad for the Switch. I haven't used it but Its roughly the same price and it couldn't be any worse than this piece of shit except for the D-pad who the hell thought this was a good idea

Why did the sequel go off the rails with cynicism and depressing shit? The first game was much simpler in comparison: you are a teenage squid who shoots ink at other teenage squids, and you also have to take back a power source from a gang of octopi that stole it. Then a pair of celebrities cheer you on with a song right as you get it and save their grandfather. Whatever could even be called hidden lore was still interesting, but you could just look at it, say "oh look humans are extinct and squids evolved", and get on with shooting cum ink. The second game just shoves that all in your face. Turns out that song those celebrities were singing had voodoo magic powers, and a bunch of octopi just deserted the others who turned out to just be under musical mind control. The Agent 8 story just turns everything on its head with the testing facility amnesia you-will-be-depressed-your-whole-time-playing-this-and-humans-are-evil-because-of-sentinent-AI-and-climate-change clusterfuck.

I know what you mean. Short-range weapons with so-so accuracy (Splattershot, .52 gal, N-zap, etc) will fuck you over with their random spray.
I gravitate more towards long-range (Splattershot Pro) or extremely accurate (Splash-o-Matic, Popper) shooters, since they tend to be less frustrating.

Ever since 3.0, this problem has been a lot more blatant. I was a Tentatek Splattershot main and it was taking 5 or 6 shots to splat. N-Zap '85 was taking 6 or 7 sometimes. There have been issues with people teleporting, people splatting me after being dead, and all the good stuff that seems to come with this game. Ever since 3.0, though, it's seem to have gotten worse. There are times(like right now) where I need to take a break because the game is unplayable at times. I've got video clips of stingrays barely grazing me and killing me instantly and an indirect from a clash blaster killing me when I was straight out of spawn. You're not alone in this.

Octo Expansion isn't that depressing. They did crank up the darker elements but it seems to me the devs just wanted to make a weird world about fish people and the weird shit that goes on in it. I think the most telling line from the recent interview is that they don't see the Inklings as the "good guys," they just see them as squids who live in a squid world for squids and do whatever they have to to keep it going.
Where's the real confirmation that the Octarians are mind-controlled and the Inkantation is literally magic, though? I don't remember hearing the first, and the second I just write off as the power of groove.

Speaking of which, who here plans on paying for online? The only games I can see myself using it for are Splat2n (which I'm getting bored of) and Smash. I wouldn't be surprised if queue times got longer. There are very few games worth paying for online at the moment.

Great, I was worried I'd miss out such an amazing Splatfest. This is just a repeat of cake vs. ice cream except now the debate is what tool you use to eat them.

Yep, and it was a pretty good one too; the centre button gives a minor terrain advantage and changes hands all the time, but the other two pairs control access to each 'base'.
The buttons on your side start off with enemy ink on them; once covered, the corresponding gate closes. It's impossible for the enemy team to get past these gates, but easy for your team to go around or jump over them.
Getting to the other team's side requires 'claiming' the central square, blindly shooting ink onto their switch from an obvious, open spot, then pushing through before they close their gate again.

Yep. Must games where one team breaches past the center were in general one-sided, but the matches just in the middle were quite fun.
As for the block that goes up with the middle switch, it's impossible to get up there directly once it's up, but you can jump on your block from the walls of your base.
Both teams have a small path to the side that makes for a safe sniper nest. The area is grated so bombs can be a problem, but the chances of an enemy actually going up there is about zero as they'd have to go all the way through your base. And when they're in there the nest is useless.
Middle area is quite full of places to hide, favoring short-ranged weapons, but the bases are more open. Buckets quickly deal with switches, but a single splat bomb usually does it, too.
