Even if piracy somehow never exist and everyone acquired games legally, the idea that the possibility of someone somewhere could share the game would be reason enough for them to lock down the game under an avalanche of anti-consumer shit not just limited to DRM schemes. It's why they push EULAs so hard, even though the chances of all the bullshit terms in them are unlikely to be enforced they still want the authority to dictate how you play games, how you act when playing them, how you interact with others, and so on.
