Play them all. I started with AC2 as a kid. Emulator for AC2AA, AC3, AC SL, and those other AC3 ones like LR.
AC2 is a wonderful start, the world takes place in Mars, and you will learn many secrets of whats there as you play.
Still haven't touched AC1 games all these years.
Playing FA will get you to appreciate certain aspects of AC2 that you wish were there, like level exploration instead of a big open map.

Play the Armored Core 1 trilogy first, if you get used to the clunky non analog controls, you pretty much can play every game in the series. Also most of the games with the exception of 4, 4A, and 5 build incrementally on each other, culminating in Last Raven.

For J it was because the boss refill ammo (no boss did this in the whole series history). So don't waste your time making him waste his MAP on battleships.

I've recently been playing the PSX originals however and must say that they hold up really well. I'm still playing Master of The Arena and it's a hoot. Start with AC 2 or even the PSX games. However make sure to get the most out of your emulator and use analog sticks for walking and aiming. The games are good as they are but are vastly improved by doing this. Both the 2nd and 3rd gen games emulate quite well for me. In fact, emulating NX/LR makes me wish I could remove that disgusting vaseline filter they have over everything. Not noticeable on a normal PS2+CRT setup, but on a PC at roughly 1440p, its just the worst.
Also played on an emulator with analog sticks, it's amazing how well aged the 1st gen is in terms of gameplay, though I guess that's not a surprise since every AC up to LR is essentially the same game with better graphics and mild adjustments and additions. Hell, 1st gen AC is the only time in the series where running is useful, and the sound effects are decent. For every AC since running/walking has only been a formality and the series didn't get decent/good sound fx again until AC4, then ACfA ruined it by adding a shit veil over all the sound fx. Then of course the 5th gen has the best sound fx in the series.

Even without that, you can bypass difficulty more easily than the PS2 games with a good set up because of the way defenses work. Most enemies in the campaign have a definite weakness, and the side mission enemies have enough of one that the right design can fuck them over pretty hard. Getting all the bonus objectives that way is a bit more difficult, however.

Finished AC Nexus again after it was brought up here. Probably the worst of the PS2 games in hindsight. It's piss-easy once you stop overheating constantly and there's barely any mission variety. The remake disc is much better than the main game. At least I have LR to look forward to.

MW2 and MW3 are worth playing, but getting them to work on modern hardware is a mess. You might be able to get the 3dfx version of MW2 to work with Glide emulation such as dgVoodoo, otherwise you'll be stuck with the DOS version (which works very well in DOSBox but looks crap). MW3 is a complete crapshoot even with many community fixes; it gets some serious physics bugs if your CPU is too fast and as far as I know there's no solution besides underclocking somehow. The other two MW4 games aren't very interesting compared to Mercs.

Cabracan was not hard, unless I am forgetting something. You needed a grenade weapon, or similarly high damage fast projectile weapon, to destroy the treads when the skirt is flipped by the mines, and a lot of high ammo weapons for the trash it spawns after it gets stopped. Maybe you are thinking of a different mission? Arms Forts in general were kind of trash in execution. Very few were terribly threatening, and because of the focus of the game, you never saw a situation that justified such things.
I am sure he is thinking of the one that is functionally four against one on normal mode.

Hell no, it plays more like a really stripped down Gundam Vs game with enemies that are as dumb as DW enemies, but are kinda damage spongy and as aggressive as rabid dogs, so they have a tendency of being a bit annoying and overstaying their welcome at times. It's main strengths are in mobile suit customization, and despite the simplicity of the gameplay it can be frantic and fun. At it's best its like being a 4 year old banging your toys together and making explosion noises, at it's worst it's just really grindy either trying to get the parts or skills you need from MSes in the field or building up currency to either upgrade/ improve your build and buy new kits and parts for your build.
As for games like AC, well one of the unique aspects of AC is that they're the only games of decent quality that play like they do. If you're seriously desperate, there's Front Mission: Evolved, though the game is almost universally regarded as terrible, and then there are cheap budget "not quite" titles like Assault Gunners and the Damascus Gear games.
>>15231542
Well most of your stuff looks pretty tossed together anon, granted that is the intention for some of the builds here, but others are more "I see what you're trying to do but…", which to be fair I'd say also describes my main gunpla in the game. That said I like the sombrero on your Kadomzakias, and that glorified Guncannon is easily the best of all the ones you posted. Also your last build might be improved if you go with more rounded legs, rather than the psycho zaku ones, maybe a taller chest with similar aesthetics like the hyaku shiki. My personal build is inspired by my personal favorite AC setup, and while the first one looks the best to me, it is a bit too over the top for what I'm trying to go for, and while the second build has a "shape" more in line with what I want, the parts look like way more of a mishmash.

There's lots of other mecha by Tomino other than Gundam. Watch his Zambot 3, Ideon, L-Gaim, Xabungle. All of these were released before even Zeta Gundam and Zambot 3 was before the original Gundam.
If you want something that's not Tomino, there's the Nagai stuff such as Mazinger Z and Getter Robo, though you are warned that all the original Nagai adaptations were made during a time in which anime studios didn't really care about the original work and used the characters and mechs to milk toy money, so they are not at all indicative of Nagai's original stories. You're better off reading the manga or watching the 80's+ reboots.
Other than Tomino and Nagai, there's always the Super Dimension trilogy: Macross, Southern Cross, and Orguss, which are all good, though everyone always just remembers Macross nowadays. Not that they are any way related story-wise, of course. And those dip into the 80's which broadens your search terms quite a bit.

Here's a question for Gundam Breaker players. I'm cleaning up the DLC on Hardcore right now, getting a more final build squared away before considering the Extreme and then Newtype grind. My question is, is it valuable to convert to MG parts at all? The stat caps are the same between both grades, so the question is whether having bigger bullets and melee hurtboxes for attacks is worth making yourself a 50% bigger target for enemy attacks, when the lategame defense meta seems to revolve around not getting hit and gaming the shit out of instant death avoidance combined with high health, autoheal & repair efficiency to stop instakills and minimize followups. That in mind, I'm thinking the answer is 'no,' but it seems wise to ask.

learn to dodge. Also learn to put the proper stats on like beam defence
cf17bc No.15341070
>>15338759
I've already learned to dodge more or less. Doing bounties taught me to never stop boosting for more than a moment, to be at least a little mindful of where offsceen enemies are and how their beam line attacks might infringe on my movement, and to value high damage frontload/low time invest option weapons (I have no idea how anyone can stand lockdown beam weaponry, the damage is backloaded, slow to come out, has an upfront gauge cost for stopping & starting firing that encourages being a sitting duck to empty the gauge in one go) and even more preferably freemove weapons.
In other words, I built with lots of missiles, because funnel spam would way be too lazy and wasn't what I wanted to build thematically anyways. The only option I have left that causes a movement stop are the Zaku II leg missiles, and those go out in a half second to great damaging effect before allowing me to start boosting again. Aiming Gelgoog Cannon shells needs some facing antics to not fire into the middle of nowhere, but doesn't impose a movement stop. I fire Geara Doga sturmfausts out of a dodge religiously and don't hold block to fire them unless I'm dumping all of my options into a stunned/downed opponent with no backup to try to break all their parts.
I put on the 20% beam defense UA, although I haven't picked up the 30% boost from 10% GA resistance on body/legs/backpack and will do so if it proves necessary. I have an assload of boost speed and thrust capacity. In retrospect, I was maybe playing in Newtype mindset from early on when I did bounties with a less refined build, less damage, and no instant death protection to save me from getting winged by huge attacks, just enough of a healthbar to simulate it when I'd get dumpstered into red health and then heal with EX or kits. I'm thoroughly covered. The question isn't 'how do I dodge/survive in theory,' it's if the benefits of having big sweeps & bullets outweigh the increased target size of MG parts in an evasion meta or not? Again, leaning towards no, but I want to be as informed as I can be.

Arena suits are player made and thus prone to that meta shit, keep regen on your parts as well as health vampirism to keep up the healing factor I field works well against beam and GN works against most forms of attacks which you'll see on super meta suits. another good thing. A big meta thing in 3 you have to watch for is LODS A FUNNELS

>keep regen on your parts
Already got it. Seems stupid not to have at least one regen part, because anti-instadeath exploitation is king as soon as ablative HP becomes less effective or not at all.
>as well as health vampirism
Had it, ditched it as it didn't seem incredible compared to regen and other raw boosts I could have instead. It'd maybe be worth it to have an onhit bonus on a machinegun, but as it is I'm using the Zaku II Kai 90mm more for the altfire grenade launcher than the gun it's attached to.
>I field works well against beam and GN works against most forms of attacks which you'll see on super meta suits
I really don't understand why. As I said, giant beam attacks seem to generally force you to a standstill, watching a big line of particle effect eyerape slowly drool out to keep a narrow line of enemies stunned. Even almost-dumbfire missile options like the sturmfaust seem better, because at least at very long range they gain a little turning/homing ability. Why aren't kinetic freemove options more popular by comparison?
>A big meta thing in 3 you have to watch for is LODS A FUNNELS
I've seen a couple cage funnel users, which didn't seem very effective at damaging or stopping me, and one obnoxious motherfucker with some kind of mini-stun funnels. I was really not happy to have both my movements and option attack rhythm repeatedly stopped dead and myself exposed to instadeath EX melee attacks because of that dickhead.
I've ascertained that the answer to funnel suits is, 'don't go near enough for them to target,' but that didn't help me any because it was the Jap backyard map that the stunsuit was on. Big things to get stuck on, relatively narrow square open area compared to the big round type arenas. Got down to one ticket before things were through.

The stun funnel thing is the GN fangs from 00, and thats how they also work in the show, they essentially are remote knives that target the joints of a MS.
See I've never encountered this, are you trying to run a stock Zaku II or something? because my gelgoog apex uses parts from at the most advanced, the sazabi (the legs) so I've never really had issues with 1 hit kill moves

Here's one of my two suits, the Worger. I need to recharge my vita but once it's done I'll upload my Apex to the site and you can see it's stats. I got for mobility, with the worger, there is a emphasis on building EX skill gauages back up, as well as using the whirlwind EX skill to trap suits while I use the Buster Rifle to knock off their yellow bar (which lets you stagger them).
The apex I have a Gundam Mk II Beam rifle that has it's heavy attack as a charging shot, again I stop and shoot to plink off the yellow bar before going in and wailing on a suit. While the worger has funnels, the Apex has a pair of Dreissen tri-blades on it's shoulders that are good for tearing into a suit.
Also I meant GN field, it abosrbs most ranged weapon and you can sort of stack the fields. If you need to fight at range, remember to stack ranged DPS bonus % from your parts as well as optional DPS bonus %
I've actually tried to make out Optional part DPS damage for a build of a Zaku II with all the optional parts are a pair of backpack mounted missile pods. Because they're all the same the game condenses them into one option and I can nuke most suits on mission 1 using a single salvo.

Not stock, and I didn't/don't have instakill trouble beside when going into Extreme a little early, once or twice in the DLC, and once or twice in bounties, and that's before getting instadeath protection from the Gusion Rebake shield. Build is Zaku II missile variant legs, Zaku IIFZ arms & head, Break Dias chest to represent an uparmored Zaku IIFZ Kai style chest, Gelgoog Cannon backpack. Parts are at level 24, 25, 24, 255, 25 ,23 ,29, 26 going down the list. Builder part weapons are a 6-tube missile pod, double 5-tube missile pods, an arm grenade launcher, a head vulcan for filler damage, and a flashbang for occasional situation control. Geara Doga shield for built in sturmfausts. Zaku II Kai MG for grenade launching and dissolve damage. Large heat hawk, because who would use a dinky standard heat hawk for an improved Zaku?
It's all a matter of dumping as many option weapons as close to overheat and onto as many targets as possible as well as emptying shield & ranged weapons, throwing lots of trash around if it isn't destroyed outright and breaking plenty of parts off of bigger fry. Maybe hack them up with the heat hawk if everything's more or less dry and I want to get some more parts off on recharge. It cakewalks Hardcore, cleans up quadruple top level bounties in 6-7 minutes, and is maybe Extreme ready for when I decide to jump into that next big grind. I don't think this is a great screenshot, but hopefully you can get the gist of what's where.
I have something resembling a development history in my head as to where this thing fits in the UC, but all that I really need to communicate is that the general build ethic was 'super OYW/immediate postwar era grunt suit.' Make a mean motherfucker using as much purely conventional technology as possible. The end result is a sort of Pentagon Wars'd Zaku II Kai, bloated from the original requirement of 'give us a UMP Zaku II Cannon that isn't ass and does its job' & later 'give us an ersatz Gelgoog Cannon with Zaku controls' that turned into a miniature Xamel on legs, with the armor of a Dom minus the thermonuclear jets to make it hover at flank speeds (but it technically walks quite a bit faster than an engine-crippled Dom!) and enough extra reactor to run an A Baoa Qu type shoulder cannon or an electromagnetically assisted 180mm autoloader cannon, plus as many additional self-defense and carpet bombardment weapons as could be crammed onto the thing.
Gets some limited production in various marks, does some good, does some bad, and mostly ends up serving as an example of the requirements for several classes of MS it was trying to do the job of and how to fulfill them, and more importantly how NOT to fulfill them, contributing variously by osmosis & example to the Xamel, Rick Dias, Galluss-J, Zssa, Zaku III and Geara Doga projects. Few pilots can quite get to grips with a pocket heavy artillery/assault MS on legs, or else weren't fond of the idea or practice of operating a Zaku II framed powderkeg on legs, and so a lot end up getting stripped down to either the original Zaku IIFZK Cannon weapon specs, or else strip out the cannon for a more wieldy heavy urban fighting build. A modest number of Delaz Fleet & Neo Zeon pilots take to the full overbuilt pocket Xamel loadout due to how many GMs it can paste in very short order at all ranges, while the thick slanted chest armor offers not insubstantial protection- especially with a Luna Titanium chassis and/or resistance coating- against Federation grunt beam rifles, let alone reserve beam spray guns. Creative use of Zaku II hi-mo style jumps in spite of the lesser thruster layout & capacity compensate for the physical overload to mobility in a pinch. It's like an armored freight train full of enough guns to sink the Titanic while being powered forward by grit, prayer and a two-stroke engine.

Here's the Gelgoog Apex, You have to remember Optional part DPS is whats needed to get mileage out of your extra weapons. By the way if you have a BANNAM account you can go to gundam perfect games and show off your build there, good way to see the stats without having to post a screengrab. A big part again is a combination of knowing how to trash the boss suits that spawn in, the beam rifle deals with the yellow bar and a bit of cheese in spamming one press heavy attack to juggle. The arms from the Jaeger have the mounted cannons so the extra DPS from those take chunks out of the health.
For the Apex I just went with "the strongest Gelgoog possible" and while not early OYW I went with the idea behind the regelg, take a OYW suit and update it with the tech of the time. The end result is a suit with high performance like it's OYW namesake.
