They didn't. I think the RCP people just want to make a completely clean break and not have SJWs complaining that RCP is stealing "their" work. The only problem I have with that is that the old guard that started the SCP and made all the good ones were chased out of the community a long time ago, and they're probably not interested in trying this again. The quality of RCP entries is lacking in comparison to old SCP even if it's light years beyond current SCP. I noticed a few RCPs that don't have a proper description of their physical appearance or anomalous qualities.

The DRM right before steam actually was really garbage and suspicious. Stuff like star force was credibly called spyware. They also limited the amount of lifetime installs for the game.
