Leveling up ruins what little balance the game has. It should never have had a leveling system for the chraracters. Reached chapter select? Want to fight an old boss with a moveset that wasn't previously available when you first fought them? Too bad. You're overleveled now and they die in the blink of an eye. Why the fuck do just the flying segments' enemies level scale? What is the purpose of that? The chip system shows potential but doesn't meet expectations. More of the chips need to do interesting things instead of various boring stat boosting chips. If you're playing on Very Hard mode you need a hell of a lot of luck to escape the god damned bunker with heavily restricted movement and several flight units wailing on you.

I played the shit out of the demo. The demo was balanced just right. Normal was normal and hard was just right. When the actual game came out, Normal was piss easy and hard/very hard had little difference unless you were overleveled. I've heard claims that enemies are more aggressive and have wider movesets on harder modes, but everything dies so fast I hardly notice.

The common enemies are about design function over challenge. Like a zombie game it's more dangerous the more of them there are around you since you have to keep track of more of them. I think of the true-game (second half) amusement park or the forest area. In the last third of the game the enemies get ridiculous and they really saved up the challenge for the final stretch with those jet jackasses (not the shoot-em-up).

Never had a problem with the enemy variation difficulty myself. It's been a year and I sold it after I sacrificed so I can't recall, though. Could be an issue I'll grant since it was always an issue with Drakengard titles and the first Nier. The series is based on an inversion of Dynasty Warriors, after all.

It follows a sequence of I think 4 events where you play as a defective machine named Plato 1728. Mostly you just walk through the factory, talk to a bunch of other machines and participate in some tests where Plato's glitching body makes things nearly impossible. It all ends with the music video embedded. This also leads to another ending slide.
Spoiler plot summary Plato is ostracized by the other machines for his shortcomings. He comes to hate fighting because he's so bad at it. He becomes "friends" with a doll, which the other machines also make fun of. The doll is destroyed in a battle, Plato goes berserk (offscreen) killing everyone involved. The machines decide to destroy all dolls in order to prevent this from happening again, cue music video

Removing all chips or adding new ones has a negligble effect on this when the enemies are so shit. They have to to be fixed first before any changes to chips can have a real effect on the balance.

If I recall correctly, and you paid attention to what I said, your movement is heavily restricted there. Toward the end of the flight sequence you lose all abilities including dodging.

Autotomato was my goty 2017 and I 100%ed the game. I added zero attack modifier chips, and after the first playthrough getting a decent fight out of enemies was not possible unless you looked for level 99 corpses and waited for them to go rampant. Even using un-upgraded weapons doesn't change much, and you lose moves doing that.

It's you who is wrong. Stronger enemies allow you to actually use all of your moves. Air juggling, parrying, shooting a full three lasers and finishing by using an emil head as a baseball is much more fun than cutting an enemy once and it dying.
What the game desperately needs is a mod to be able to switch characters, and de-level yourself / set all enemies to 99. The leveling making 100%-ing the game into a moose rider game because enemies die before you're warmed up was the second worst part of the game.
The worst was trying everything to unlock those fucking doors before they announced that they were future DLC. That was MAX KIKE. I haven't played them yet, because I completed ending E before they released, can't speak about the quality.

Worth noting, he also has an alternate-throw attack when you are holding the hack button (not actually hacking). For instance, the large sword will usually spiral forward when you throw it, but if you hold triangle and throw it will spin around you 3 times instead, you can even swap weapons and attack and it will keep going. The fist and spear alt-throws look identical, but the fists have longer range and the spear does more damage (I think it hits multiple times)

I wanted to ask, the game makes a point of the Machines being unable to learn. In the logs they are described as repeating the same failed systems over and over, mimicking human's past but never actually learning from it. In the game itself this is supposed to be expressed through the forest king baby, though that more just makes them out to be incredibly stupid.
Anyway the idea isn't really given enough detail. Is the whole machine network incapable of learning? Does that apply to the Red Girls too, because in a way them learning is exactly how they are defeated and leads to a change in their plans for the tower as well. Does it apply to the Yorha Androids made from machines or maybe even androids in general? Probably not the latter, because someone had to come up with the plan for Project Yorha afterall, that's not something that could have been copied from dead humanity.

The machine network does learn, it's just reset along with everything else. Adam an Eve are basically androids, they're the next tier of machines.
My take on it is that the machines turn into androids with enough time to evolve. This then leads to an android/machine war. Which destroys everything except the monitors who then rebuild everything and the cycle repeats a new. Like it's a constant test to see how the same event plays out and how to alter it.
